  • Angelina Jolie faces legal setback in battle with Brad Pitt | People News

Washington: In a significant development in the protracted legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, a Los Angeles Superior Court has ordered Jolie to turn over all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she has signed over the past eight years.

This decision is the latest twist in their ongoing dispute over the ownership of their USD 500 million French winery, Chateau Miraval, as confirmed by Page Six.

The court ruling mandates that the ‘Maleficent’ star must produce within the next month all non-privileged documents in her possession, custody, or control that respond to Pitt’s legal team’s requests.

A source close to Pitt described the ruling as a “crushing blow” to Jolie, who had previously argued that producing the NDAs would be “expensive,” “wasteful,” and “unreasonable,” as well as an “invasion of privacy” for third parties involved.

As per Page Six, the documents in question likely encompass NDAs related to Hollywood employers, brands, and personal staff, potentially containing sensitive information about Jolie’s compensation and contracts with third parties.

The court’s order also requires Jolie to provide a list of any documents she considers privileged, enabling Pitt’s team to evaluate her claims of privilege.

The Oscar-winning couple has been embroiled in a legal dispute that has extended beyond their divorce, particularly focusing on the Chateau Miraval winery.

Jolie’s legal team has accused Pitt of attempting to control her through an overreaching NDA, which she claimed was intended to cover Pitt’s personal misconduct unrelated to the winery.

This dispute reportedly hindered an agreement for Jolie to sell her stake in the winery to Pitt, leading her to sell her shares to a subsidiary of the Stoli Group instead.

Pitt has contested the sale to Stoli, alleging that Jolie acted unfairly in finalizing the deal without his consent.

According to Page Six, a source aligned with Pitt noted that this ruling represents another pre-trial victory for him.

However, Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, framed the decision differently, stating, “Common NDAs are simply not comparable to Mr. Pitt’s last-second demand to try and cover up his personal misconduct.”

He emphasized that the court’s acknowledgment of the NDAs’ potential relevance to the case is significant, hinting at the broader implications for Pitt’s conduct.

Murphy added, “We welcome that transparency in all parties’ discovery responses, including Mr. Pitt’s. Angelina looks forward to the eventual end of this litigation with its false narratives that continue to hurt the family and interfere with their ability to heal.”

According to Page Six, a source close to Jolie assured that the NDAs are unlikely to be exposed during the trial.

  • Angelina Jolie Accuses Brad Pitt Of Physical Abuse In Winery Dispute | world news

New Delhi: American Actress Angelina Jolie has alleged that Brad Pitt was abusive towards her before the 2016 plane incident, which ultimately contributed to the dissolution of their marriage. Jolie on Thursday filed a motion to the Los Angeles Superior Court in which she asserts that she tried to sell her stake in a couple’s French Winery, Miraval to Pitt, but negotiations faltered when Pitt insisted that she sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). which prohibited Joile from speaking (other than in court) about Pitt’s abuse of her and their children, according to the filing obtained by CNN.

The recent development originates after Pitt filed a lawsuit in 2022, in which he asserted that he and Jolie had an agreement not to sell their shares in the winery without each other’s consent. Jolie in her filing claimed that Pitt’s record of physical abuse began long before the family’s flight trip from France to Los Angeles in September 2016.

“At trial, Jolie will prove through testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence why Pitt was so concerned about his misconduct that he blew up his own deal to purchase Jolie’s interest in Miraval because she refused to agree to his new, expansive NDA, ” read the filing.

American Actress Jolie asserts that she initially consented to sign an NDA focused solely on refraining from disparaging Miraval’s wine business as part of the agreement to sell her share in the winery but later on, Pitt subsequently pushed for a more expansive NDA that would have prohibited Jolie from making any negative remarks about either party in public, except from the court.

“Mr. Pitt refused to purchase Ms. Jolie’s interest when she would not be silenced by her NDA. By refusing to buy her interest but then suing her, Mr Pitt put directly at issue why that NDA was so important to him and what he hoped it would bury: his abuse of Ms Jolie and their family,” Jolie’s attorney, stated to CNN.

In 2008, the ex-couple purchased the Miraval estate and winery in the south of France. The legal proceedings concerning the disagreement over the property are still ongoing.

In 2016 Jolie filed the divorce proceedings against Pitt and later in 2019 they were granted their divorce and considered legally single.

  • F1 welcomes Brad Pitt but is wary of protesters at British Grand Prix

    By Associated Press

SILVERSTONE: Brad Pitt is joining the Formula One paddock for his new movie. He might stand as much chance as anyone else of beating Max Verstappen.

Verstappen will be aiming for his eighth win in 10 races this year on Sunday as he surges toward winning the title for a third straight year. His Red Bull team has won 19 of the last 20 races going back to July 2022.

As F1 welcomes Pitt for a weekend of filming around the British Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed the help the project has had from F1 teams. Mercedes driver and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton was involved with producing the movie.

“We’ve been involved pretty early and I think when we had the first discussions, we sent Brad to a driving school in France, going through the Formula cars from Formula 4 all the way up – and we tried to be helpful with the narrative,” Wolff said. “Lewis is an executive producer, so he wanted to make sure when the movie comes out, it’s as realistic as possible.”

Pitt’s production has set up a garage for a fictional 11th team at Silverstone. Most existing F1 teams remain opposed to adding a real new team to F1, though, despite a bid from Andretti Global and General Motors.

“We haven’t got the logistics, where to put an 11th team. Here in Silverstone, we can accommodate the Hollywood people but on other circuits, we can’t,” Wolff said.

    Protest warnings

Activists representing the Just Stop Oil group ran onto the track at last year’s British Grand Prix, passing close to cars shortly after the race was red-flagged for a first-lap crash. Since then, Just Stop Oil protesters have made their mark on British events including Wimbledon and the Ashes cricket. The group wants the British government to block all new oil, gas and coal extraction projects.

Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton signaled he would back a “peaceful” protest but expressed concern for the safety of drivers and protesters if anyone makes it onto the Silverstone track again.

“From my perspective, and I think my team’s, we are very, very focused on sustainability, we believe in what people are fighting for and we are making those changes as a sport,” Hamilton said Thursday. “But safety is key. We don’t want to be put in harm’s way and we don’t want to put anyone else in harm’s way.”

McLaren driver Lando Norris said there should be “pretty severe” consequences if lives are put at risk.

“If it happens in the paddock and things like that, I guess that probably causes different scenarios, but it just can’t happen on a race track because you put actual people’s lives in danger,” he said.Six activists who stormed the track last year were spared prison sentences in March. Local police said they will deploy facial recognition technology.

    Verstappen leads practice

Verstappen was top again in both Friday practice sessions, leading the first by .448 seconds over teammate Sergio Perez and the second by .022 from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. Verstappen complained of a lack of grip early in the first session but it hardly seemed to limit his pace.

Alex Albon was third fastest in each session in a strong showing for Williams, which also saw American driver Logan Sargeant fifth in the second session, behind Perez. An electrical issue meant Charles Leclerc couldn’t take part in the second practice after the Ferrari driver was fifth in the first session.

The kind of dominance shown so far this season by Verstappen and Red Bull is already making F1 history. Red Bull is the first team to win all of the first nine races of a season since McLaren won 11 in 1988.

That 1988 season was enlivened by a fierce battle between world champion teammates Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, though. Verstappen’s own teammate, Perez, started the season strongly but has faded, partly because he’s struggled repeatedly in qualifying, and was 81 points off Verstappen in second place.

FIA president Mohamed Bin Sulayem told The Associated Press this week that he doesn’t see a need to rein in Red Bull for the benefit of F1 as a whole. “Nobody’s stopping the other teams from being better,” he said.

If Verstappen wins on Sunday, he will become only the fifth driver in F1 history with victories in six consecutive races, and the first since Nico Rosberg for Mercedes in 2015 and 2016.

    Hamilton’s hopes

Hamilton and Mercedes need a lift after a tough weekend at the last race in Austria, with Hamilton placing 10th in the sprint and eighth in the race. He’s expecting a boost from the home crowd.

“So happy to be back. This grand prix is the best,” Hamilton said Thursday. “The crowd just lifts you and the whole team up. And there’s this kind of feeling of floating when you come here on that positive energy that everyone brings, and just seeing so many flags, so many caps and people supporting us. It really just helps spur you along.”

Friday practice wasn’t ideal for Mercedes, despite a redesigned front wing, as Hamilton was 12th fastest in the first session after complaining his car was bouncing. Teammate George Russell said his steering was vibrating as he placed 14th. In the second, Russell placed 12th and Hamilton 15th.

  • Jolie details Brad Pitt abuse allegations in court filing

    By Associated Press

LOS ANGELES: A court filing Tuesday from Angelina Jolie alleges that on a 2016 flight, Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her then choked one of their children, and struck another when they tried to defend her.

The descriptions of abuse on the private flight came in a cross-complaint Jolie filed in the couple’s dispute over a French home and winery they co-owned that is separate from their ongoing divorce, which she sought soon after.

A representative for Pitt, who was not authorised to speak publicly, strongly denied Jolie’s allegations and called them “another rehash that only harms the family.”

The allegations of abuse on the plane first became public shortly after the flight, but reports were initially vague and details were kept sealed in divorce documents and investigations by the FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, both of which found that no action against Pitt was necessary.

A judge gave Pitt 50-50 custody of the children after a closed-door trial in which the allegations were aired.

But an appeals court subsequently disqualified the private judge for not disclosing possible conflicts of interest after a motion from Jolie, nullifying the decision.

More details of the allegations were revealed earlier this year when a Jolie lawsuit against the FBI over a Freedom of Information Act request was made public.

The New York Times first reported the court filing.

The filing says that on September 14, 2016, Jolie, Pitt and their six children were travelling from the winery, Chateau Miraval, to Los Angeles.

“Pitt’s aggressive behaviour started even before the family got to the airport, with Pitt having a confrontation with one of the children.

After the flight took off, Jolie approached Pitt and asked him what was wrong,” the filing says.

“Pitt accused her of being too deferential to the children and verbally attacked her.” Later, it says, “He pulled her into the bathroom and began yelling at her.

Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.”

One of the children, who were between 8 and 15 years old at the time, verbally defended Jolie, the countersuit says, and Pitt lashed out.

“Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, he threw himself back into the aeroplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the filing says.

“The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”

The document says he subsequently poured beer on Jolie and poured beer and red wine on the children.

Jolie gave an account of the flight to two FBI investigators in the days that followed. It appeared in a heavily redacted report later released by the agency.

It included a photo of a bruise on Jolie’s elbow and a “rug-burn type injury” on her hand.

In it, she said that she had seen Pitt have two to three drinks, but said he appeared articulate and not intoxicated.

The investigators met with federal prosecutors, and “It was agreed by all parties that the criminal charges, in this case, would not be pursued due to several factors,” the report says.

An FBI statement said it has “conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation.”

The 47-year-old Oscar-winning actor and director Jolie and the 58-year-old Oscar-winning actor Pitt were among Hollywood’s most prominent couples for 12 years.

They had been romantic partners for a decade when they married in 2014.

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and a judge declared them single in 2019, but the divorce case has not been finalised with custody and financial issues still in dispute.

  • Angelina Jolie’s former company sues Brad Pitt for USD 250 mn, says he stole ‘French’ winery

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s clash over French winery Chateau Miraval has turned downright nasty, with Jolie accusing her ex-husband of seizing the business and squandering its profits in retaliation for her breaking up their marriage.

According to Fox News, the lawsuit claims that the ‘Troy’ star secretly transferred assets to businesses owned by him and his cronies while secretly spending tens of millions of dollars of the winery’s earnings on vanity projects.

“Ever since his former wife, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce from him in 2016, Brad Pitt has been waging a vindictive war against her,” according to the countersuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of Jolie’s former company, Nouvel.

“Pitt has frozen Nouvel out of Chateau Miraval and treats it as his personal fiefdom,” the filing says.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the ex-couple are two of the wealthiest actors in the world, with Pitt reportedly worth $300 million and Jolie $120 million.

For 25 million euros, the ex-Hollywood power couple purchased Chateau Miraval in 2008.

They got married on the vast 1,800-acre estate with panoramic views of the vineyards and a private lake six years later.

Pitt and Jolie divorced in 2016, but their custody battle for their six children has dragged on ever since. Now, the two are at odds over ownership of the former family getaway, a 17th-century French chateau and vineyard in Correns.

In response to a lawsuit Pitt filed earlier this year, accusing the “Maleficent” actress of surreptitiously selling her 50 per cent ownership in the winery to an alleged Russian oligarch and spirits magnate, the actress has filed a counterclaim.

Pitt referred to the sale as “vindictive and unlawful,” alleging that it was done as a retaliation for a disfavorable custody decision Jolie obtained the previous year. He requested that the judge void the transaction and pay him damages.

Under Pitt’s leadership, the winery turned a profit and produced a rose that Wine Spectator ranked among the best 100 wines in the world.

But in her complaint, Jolie charges Pitt with orchestrating “a so far successful strategy to acquire control of Chateau Miraval,” which is jointly held by Nouvel and the actor’s financial firm Mondo Bongo.

The lawsuit claims that despite being Jolie’s greatest investment, she had little influence over the winery’s operations.

“Pitt wasted its assets, spending millions on vanity projects, including more than $1 million on swimming pool renovations,” according to the court papers.

The filing says that a staircase at the chateau was rebuilt four times at Pitt’s direction because he was unhappy with the first three attempts.

The extravagant expenditures that have no “business justification” and were made over Jolie’s objections have left the good winery barely breaking even. She was willing to sell her shares to her ex-husband, and they had neared a deal but “Pitt’s hubris got the better of him.”

He allegedly demanded “onerous and irrelevant terms” at the last minute, including a confidentiality agreement that would prevent her from discussing the dissolution of their marriage.

After Pitt rejected her final bid in October 2021, she sold Nouvel to the Stoli Group.

But Pitt has refused to work with the business or its founder, Yuri Shefler, branding their relationship “a major international liability” for the vineyard.

  • FBI unlikely to re-open Brad Pitt’s case after Angelina Jolie’s explosive report

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Brad Pitt’s friend has revealed that the FBI is not expected to reopen his investigation after an explosive report regarding the actor was revealed last week.

According to Page Six, the source stated that “the statute of limitations is way gone and they have seen all the information at hand. There is nothing new here. At the time they considered all of Angelina’s allegations and didn’t bring any charges.”

They added, “The FBI investigated the incident thoroughly, there is zero chance of them reopening the case. This is all a concerted effort to smear Brad.” Page Six has reported that an FBI spokesperson said they could not comment on the case.

Although Jolie recounted the same details from the FBI report in her ongoing custody case against Pitt, a judge still gave Pitt 50/50 custody of their kids, the ‘Fight Club’ actor’s friend pointed out.

Jolie claimed to FBI that Pitt, back in 2016, drunkenly pushed her on board a private jet, which left their six children extremely upset. The ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ actor referenced the star’s alleged actions on the plane to the judge overseeing their custody case, according to Pitt’s friend.

They said, “Angelina’s claims were raised in at least two different legal contexts: the incident on the plane and then again during a lengthy custody trial. In one case, there were no charges brought and in another, Brad was granted 50/50 custody.”

As per Page Six, the high-profile duo has been at war over their six children for the past six years, ever since Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016. Although they’re officially divorced, they are still embroiled in a custody dispute over their minor children: Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.

They also have sons Maddox and Pax, who are 21 and 18, respectively.

  • INTERVIEW | ‘Went stir-crazy in lockdown’: Hollywood actor Brad Pitt

    Express News Service

What was your reaction when you were pitched Bullet Train?I like to think of it as the perfect movie for right now. It’s a great heist movie with really funny stuff happening. We have an amazing cast, which I was very happy to be asked to work with at a time when not many people were able to work. I felt very lucky to be a part of it.

Would you say this movie saved you during lockdown?Sure. Like everyone, I went a little stir-crazy, got a little depressed and went a little bit cuckoo during that whole time, so when (director) David Leitch came to me with this, I couldn’t wait to get going. The script came along at that really dark period of lockdown, before we knew how we were going to get out of it, and it was just so damn funny. It had so many great parts, which meant we could attract a great cast. It just seemed perfect for that time, and I’m really happy the movie came out at a time when the streets are open again and we can be around each other.

Bullet Train includes some great action scenes. Did you enjoy that?Yeah. David comes from the stunt world, so he understands that stuff very well. He was my stunt double back in ’98. We met while making Fight Club and he trained me for the fights. It worked so well that we went on with that pairing with a bunch of other films until about 2004 and then he left me to do other things. Now he’s a big-time director and it’s come back full-circle. It’s really nice for me to have him as the boss now.

Your character talks a lot about luck and fate. What is your personal take on these topics?I do like that in this really funny film, there is this undercurrent message of how we are all agents of fate in some way. I argue with myself a lot about how much is fate and how much is personal will and manifestation, or however you want to define it. I think they’re both at play, but only because I don’t have a better answer.

Did you miss the red-carpet premieres and all the hype that comes with a big release like this? No, not in that way. I didn’t realise that it had been three years because we were in lockdown and so we hadn’t brought anything to the table in a while. At the same time, it was nice to put everything we had into this story and that it came together, because the planets really have to align for a movie to be good. We’re really proud of this one and now it’s nice to let people finally see it.

Was there a new experience while making this movie? We pulled this whole thing off on one soundstage and it took technical mastery of the latest equipment to be able to do it. That was really exciting. But I just can’t say enough about that time. We were all kind of losing it, so to be able to get to work, have a laugh and know that we were bringing something that is going to be nice for everyone was really the prevailing theme. That will always resonate with me.

There were reports that you might retire from acting and then you made Bullet Train. That’s not what I said… not what I meant, at least. I think I described it as being on the last leg of the journey. I was talking about going from being a young adult to middle-age and how it feels like I’m going from middle-age to what I called the last leg. I didn’t mean I was retiring or anything like that.

Does getting older worry you?Everyone has to contend with getting older. There’s a time when you’ve just got to let go and accept it. So, do I worry about getting older? No.

You mentioned working with David Leitch when he was your stunt-double for Fight Club. How do you look back at that time and that film now?Fight Club is one of my favourites. I’m very proud of that movie. It was the most fun and working with Fincher (director of Fight Club) was an incredible experience. Making that movie made me realise that it’s the people I’m working with that matters more than anything else.

How do you pick your projects now?Same as always. I’m looking for something new, something that I haven’t explored before, something that feels fresh and is in a new direction. As I say, more than anything, as I get older, it’s about the company I keep and the people I get to work with, and variety.

  • ‘Bullet Train’ repeats No. 1; ‘Top Gun’ flies back up ranks

    By Associated Press

NEW YORK: The Brad Pitt action film “Bullet Train” led all movies in ticket sales for a second straight weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, while a quiet spell in theaters and incredible staying power allowed “Top Gun: Maverick” to rocket back into third place in its 12th week of release.

After launching the previous weekend with about $30 million at the box office, “Bullet Train” pulled in $13.4 million in its second go-around. David Leitch’s assassin-crowded film, made for $90 million, has grossed $54.4 million in two weeks for Sony Pictures. Globally, “Bullet Train” has grossed $114.5 million.

Three new films went into wide release but none cracked the top five films. The slowdown — an expected but still acute late-summer downturn in big releases — gave plenty of airspace for the year’s biggest movie, “Maverick,” to make another fly-by in theaters.

Nearly three months after opening in May, Paramount Pictures put the “Top Gun” sequel back on a number of large-format screens and increased its theater count from 2,760 to 3,181. It came away with $7.2 million, bringing its cumulative total to $673.8 million. Paramount’s biggest smash ever, “Maverick” sits at seventh all-time in domestic box office, not accounting for inflation, right above “Titanic” and just below “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The uncommonly long run for “Top Gun: Maverick” is even rarer at a time when studios have shrunk theatrical windows, typically sending movies to streaming services after about 45 days in theaters.

“Top Gun: Maverick” was very narrowly edged for second place by Warner Bros.′ “DC League of Super-Pets.” Warner Bros. estimated Sunday that its animated movie took in $7.17 million in its third week of release, just a nose above the $7.15 million for “Maverick.” Final figures Monday should break the near-tie.

But while “Top Gun: Maverick” has been a boon to theaters recovering from the pandemic, the thinly scheduled dog days of August — and potentially a chunk of September — will pose a test to the industry. This weekend, the biggest new film in nationwide theaters was A24′s “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” a Gen Z horror comedy that expanded to 1,269 locations after last week’s opening in limited release. It came in eighth with $3.3 million.

Lionsgate’s “The Fall,” about two friends stranded atop a 2,000-foot radio tower, debuted with $2.5 million. Diane Keaton’s body-swap comedy “Mack & Rita” opened with just $1 million in ticket sales for Gravitas Ventures.

In overall sales it was the lowest ticket-selling weekend of the summer. With few new wide releases on tap — including two Idris Elba titles: the safari thriller “Beast” (Aug. 19) and George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” (Aug. 26) — moviegoing is likely to slow further in the coming weeks.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

    1. “Bullet Train,” $13.4 million.

    2. “DC League of Super-Pets,” $7.2 million

    3. “Top Gun: Maverick,” $7.2 million.

    4. “Thor: Love and Thunder,” $5.3 million.

    5. “Nope,” $5.3 million.

    6. “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” $4.9 million.

    7. “Where the Crawdads Sing,” $4 million.

    8. “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” $3.3 million.

    9. “Elvis,” $2.6 million.

    10. “Fall,” $2.5 million.
