Bijapur district is one of the districts of Chhattisgarh state and Bijapur city is the administrative headquarters of this district. It was earlier a part of Dantewada district. Bijapur district is located in the southern part of the state of Chhattisgarh. This district is bounded by its parent district to the north and north-east, that is, from Dantewada district. The district is located in the east of Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state, on the lower half of south and west of Andhra Pradesh state and the remaining western part of Maharashtra state. The total area of the district is about 6562.48 square kilometers. Its four block divisions are Bijapur, Bairamgarh, Bhopalpatnam and Usur. The majority of the district consists of hills. The highest peak of the district is Bailadila, which is also known as the “hump of the bull”. It lies to the south of the Indravati River and tilts towards the north-south. The district is rich in forests. The forests found in the district fall under the arid zone, which includes mixed forest areas. The mixed forests in the arid region are very extensive which extend between the moist and intermediate belts but are generally confined to the western half and southern parts of the district. Trees of mixed variety are found here like Dhavara (Anogeesus latifolia), Birra (Chloroccylon switenia), Rahini (Soymida fberfuga) and others like Char, Tendu, Aonia, Aonla, Harra, Hariya etc.volume_upcontent_copysharestar_border
