  • Henry Cavill will get a heroic exit sequence in ‘The Witcher’ season 3

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood actor Henry Cavill, who announced his exit from ‘The Witcher’ earlier this year, will get a “heroic sendoff” in the show’s upcoming season 3.

Cavill exited the show when he confirmed his return as Superman on Black Adam, which ultimately ended up not panning out as new DC heads restructure the universe.

According to Deadline, an American entertainment news website, season 3 of the Netflix series has already been shot and showrunner Lauren Hissrich is teasing the upcoming season.

Cavill played Geralt of Rivia and Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the lead role in Season 4.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Hissrich said, “Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri [Freya Allan]. And to me, it’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that.”

“Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season 4. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement,” he added.

‘The Witcher’ got an early season 4 renewal from Netflix before season 3 even started streaming.

In a statement, Cavill was grateful for his time on the show and welcomed Hemsworth. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4,” he said.

    By Express News Service

Actor Dwayne Johnson, on Wednesday, confirmed that his character Black Adam from DC will not be in the “first chapter of storytelling” of its cinematic universe. In a statement issued on social media, Dwayne wrote, “James Gunn and I connected and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.

However, DC and Seven Bucks (his production company ) have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.” He further added, “James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.”

Dwayne said that the decisions taken by James and DC leadership “represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens”. Dwayne also acknowledged the love and reactions he received for Black Adam and extended gratitude, “After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide.”

The Black Adam announcement comes after James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as DC Studios heads, who have been reshaping the future of the DCU characters.  Replying to Dwayne, James wrote on Twitter, “Love The Rock & I’m always excited to see what he & Seven Bucks do next. Can’t wait to collaborate soon.”

  • ‘It’s a huge moment as a DC fan’: The Rock

    Express News Service

Everyone knows Superman and Batman, but perhaps not Black Adam. Where does he fit into the DC Universe? Black Adam is basically the Dirty Harry (from the 1971 film of the same name, starring ClintEastwood) of the DC Universe. He’s an anti-hero and does things that most superheroes would never do. He basically cares only about the people he loves and will do anything to protect them. He is loyal, and he’s a champion, but he’s also disruptive. In terms of powers and abilities, he’s about equal to Superman, but the core value system is different. Black Adam cracks open the DC Universe beyond all that we have seen. He is a game-changer, not just as a character, but because this move introduces five new superheroes that make up the Justice Society of America, which is a group that pre-dates the Justice League by years.

How long did it take for you to bring Black Adam to the screen? It’s been over 10 years. It feels like everything I have done in my career has led to this point. This is a huge moment for me as a DC fan as well.

How long have you been a superhero fan? Since forever. I grew up a DC boy watching Superman and Batman cartoons on Saturday mornings. I always read the comics and then one day, I got my first Black Adam comic and it changed my life. Here was a superhero with brown skin. I had never seen anything like that, and have wanted to be Black Adam from that point.

What was it like when you finally put on the costume and walked out on set as Black Adam? I have to admit, I was more than a little nervous, but then saw the rest of our amazing cast in costume and all that went away. It felt awesome to finally play a character that means so much to me.

A still from DC universe’s Black Adam Did you have to undergo any additional training to get into the superhero shape? I did. I had to change my routine quite a bit. I wanted to get the look dead right, and it was tough because there wasn’t any reference other than the comic books. It took a lot of working out and eating the right stuff. And let me just say that’s all me in the suit. There is no padding.

You mentioned how Black Adam is like Dirty Harry. Is it true that you partly based your performance on Clint Eastwood? That is true. I was inspired by Eastwood, who is also my favourite actor. There is a lot of Clint in Black Adam, and I make no excuses for that. The good, the bad and the ugly––he was a big influence on me.

Everyone is excited at the prospect of a Black Adam versus Superman showdown. What can you tell us about that and who do you think will win? All I will say is that when we started this, we knew where we were headed. Between Black Adam and Superman, let’s just say it’ll be a close fight. Black Adam is pound-for-pound about as close as you will get to Superman.

You worked with Jaume Collet-Serra on Jungle Cruise, a fantasy adventure film. What do you think made him the right director for Black Adam, a very different movie? It is different, but Jaume had the passion and the vision to make Black Adam in the way it needed to be made. I loved his hunger to succeed when we were doing Jungle Cruise. This character is a huge departure from anything else I have ever done in my career, so I needed someone like Jaume to have my back. He really helped me.

What would you say is the closest you have to a real-life superpower? I just try to be a nice guy, to be kind and positive. That’s all I’ve ever done throughout my career.

What keeps you motivated after all these years in the business? The support of my family and friends and, most of all, the memory of some hard times I had as a kid. It’s been a long road from being evicted from our home in Hawaii, but I will never forget that time, no matter how lucky I get.

What do your children think of having a superhero for a dad? Well, they’re a little too young to see this, but they have seen me in costume and they love it. It’s special.

  • Dwayne Johnson reveals he lobbied to get Black Adam removed from DC’s 2017 ‘Shazam!’ film

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson has revealed that if it wasn’t for him the titular character that he’ll play in ‘Black Adam’ could’ve debuted in 2019’s ‘Shazam!’, had Warner Bros. went ahead with its original plan.

According to Variety, the ‘Shazam!’ movie went into development in 2014 and its script originally included origin stories for both the title character and Black Adam.

Both the super-powered fictional individuals have a shared history in the DC comics, so it seemed fitting to launch their big screen iterations together in one film. However, Johnson disagreed with this.

Speaking about this to Vanity Fair magazine, Johnson said, “When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie.”

“Now that was the goal, so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.’ It would’ve been fine for Shazam having two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for Black Adam,” he added.

Revealing how he fixed the situation, Johnson continued, “I made a phone call. I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here. It’s very unpopular…’ because everybody thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s go make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think that you should make ‘Shazam!,’ make that movie on its own in the tone that you want. And I think we should separate this as well.’”

As per Variety, Warner Bros. ultimately agreed, and now Johnson will be seen leading the upcoming standalone ‘Black Adam’ tentpole this fall. The actor has repeatedly promised moviegoers that his ‘Black Adam’ movie will forever change the DC universe on the big screen.

Joining Johnson in the film are Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari and Pierce Brosnan. ‘Black Adam’ is set to release in theatres on October 21, 2022.

  • Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra to direct ‘Carry On’

    By Express News Service

Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra will be helming a holiday action thriller currently titled Carry On. The film is the first production to come from the agreement Amblin Entertainment signed with Netflix in June 2021, and Kingsman-fame Taron Egerton is set to star in the film.

The screenplay of the film is written over eight years ago by film, comic, and video game author T.J. Fixman, and enhanced by Logan screenplay writer Michael Green, Carry On is reportedly an action-packed holiday thriller.

A typical hectic Christmas Day at the airport turns into a nightmare for TSA agent Ethan Kopek (Egerton) who is blackmailed by a mysterious traveller who somehow has information they’re holding over the agent’s head to allow the package to pass through security.

Reportedly, Egerton felt a personal connection to the script despite having a number of offers. Producer of action films like 2022’s The Batman with Robert Pattinson and Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion, Dylan Clark will be backing the project with Amblin Entertainment’s president of production Holly Bario. There are no further details regarding the cast, plot, or release date of ‘Carry On’.

  • Warner Bros showcases ‘Black Adam’, ‘Shazam!’ sequel at Comic-Con

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES:  Warner Bros dropped the official trailers of its much-awaited titles “Black Adam” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” as it returned to San Diego Comic-Con for the 2022 edition.

The studio stuck to its 2022 titles during the presentation and revealed no information about the upcoming “The Flash” and “Aquaman” sequel which features controversial stars Ezra Miller and Amber Heard, respectively.

For “Black Adam”, lead star Dwayne Johnson brought a new trailer for the DC Comics film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

The actor, who showed up in costume, was joined by the director as well as cast members Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher) and Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone) during the film’s presentation.

At one point, Johnson raised eyebrows after an audience member asked Johnson about how Black Adam would fare against Superman.

The actor replied, “It probably all depends on who’s playing Superman”, a remark that added to the uncertainty over Hollywood star Henry Cavill’s stint as the man of steel in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). “Black Adam” is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 21.

The team of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” — Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Lucy Liu and director David F Sandberg — showcased the film’s official trailer during their presentation.

The movie, which is a sequel to Levi’s 2019 hit “Shazam!”, will make its debut in theatres on December 21.

Warner Bros made no presentations about “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and “The Flash”, which will hit the screens in 2023, as the studio continues to find itself in imbroglio over Miller and Heard’s separate personal issues.

Miller, who headlines Andy Muschietti-directed “The Flash”, was twice arrested in Hawaii this year in a disorderly conduct case and on suspicion of assault.

Whereas, Heard made headlines recently owing to the high-profile defamation trial, in which her ex-husband Johnny Depp sued her for a 2018 Washington Post column which he said implied that he was physically abusive to her.

A jury found in June that they both defamed each other, but Depp was awarded millions more in damages against Heard, who was also incessantly trolled and mocked by Depp’s fans on social media. She filed a notice of appeal on July 21.

The actor stars as Mera in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” opposite Jason Momoa. The film is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2023.

  • Brad Pitt’s ‘Bullet Train’ gets a new release date

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Brad Pitt’s ‘Bullet Train’ is arriving at the station a little later than scheduled. Sony Pictures announced that the action thriller is moving from July 15 to July 29, taking the recently-vacated date of Dwayne Johnson’s DC movie ‘Black Adam’.

As per Deadline, the July 15 release date is now being taken by ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’, a drama-mystery from Sony’s 3000 Pictures.

The move gives ‘Bullet Train’ a little breathing room behind Disney’s MCU threequel ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, which will hit theatres on July 8.

In its new July 29 slot, ‘Bullet Train’ will battle two other wide openers: Focus Features’ horror-thriller ‘Vengeance’ and Paramount’s animated action-comedy ‘Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank’, which are both releasing on July 22.

Pitt stars in ‘Bullet Train’ as an experienced assassin whose first day back at work isn’t as easy as planned as he finds himself among several other professional killers with a similar mission on said train.

Sandra Bullock, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Zazie Michael Shannon, Andrew Koji and Benito A Martinez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny) are also a part of the star cast.

The upcoming movie has been helmed by ‘Deadpool 2’ director David Leitch. With a screenplay by Zak Olkewicz, the film is based on ‘Maria Beetle’ by Kotaro Isaka.

  • Warner Bros delays ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Flash’ and ‘Aquaman 2’

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood studio Warner Bros has reshuffled its superhero movie slate as it announced new release dates for many much-awaited titles.

Dwayne Johnson-led ‘Black Adam”, Ezra Miller’s “The Flash” and “Aquaman 2”, starring Jason Momoa, are among the major movies to be pushed back due to “COVID-induced production delays with visual effects”, reported Variety.

“Black Adam”, which will mark Johnson’s entry into the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), has been pushed back by three months — from July 29 to October 21, 2022.

“The Flash”, Miller’s first solo outing as the speeding superhero The Flash, and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, the sequel to 2018 blockbuster “Aquaman”, will now be released in 2023.

“The Flash” has been moved from November 4, 2022, to June 23, 2023, while “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” will debut in theatres on March 17, 2023, instead of earlier date December 16, 2022.

Animated feature “DC League of Super-Pets”, in which Johnson voices Superman’s canine best friend, Krypto the Super-Dog, also saw its release date moved back from May 20, 2022 to July 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Zachary Levi’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” has been moved up as the film will now release on June 2, 2023.

The film, which is a sequel to the actor’s 2019 movie”, was earlier slated for December 12, 2022.

In non-superhero release moves, Warner Bros announced that Timothee Chalamet-starrer “Wonka” will now release on December 15, 2023. The musical film was previously set for debut in theatres on March 17, 2023.

Another film, “Meg 2: The Trench”, starring Jason Statham, has received an official release date. The film, which is a sequel to British actor’s 2018 film “The Meg”, will release on August 4, 2023.
