  • LS Polls 2024: EC Asks Congress’ Jairam Ramesh To Share Details Of Amit Shah’s Pre-Counting Day Calls To DMs |

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) sought factual information from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday on his claim that Home Minister Amit Shah has called up 150 district magistrates and collectors ahead of the June 4 counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls. In a letter to Ramesh, the poll panel has asked him to share details regarding his claim by 7 pm on Sunday.

The EC has referred to his post on X on June 1, in which the Congress general secretary had alleged that “the outgoing Home Minister has been calling up DMs/Collectors. So far, he has spoken to 150 of them. This is blatant and brazen intimidation, showing how desperate the BJP is….”

The process of counting votes is a sacred duty cast upon every returning officer and such public statements “tend to put an element of doubt and thus, deserves to be addressed in larger public interest”, the EC has told Ramesh.

It has also told the Congress leader that when the Model Code of Conduct is in force, all officers are under the deemed deputation of the commission and they report directly to the poll watchdog for any directions.

“However, no DM has reported any such undue influence as alleged by you…,” the EC’s letter to Ramesh has stated.

“It is requested that details of 150 DMs to whom such calls have been allegedly made by the Home Minister along with the factual matrix/basis of your information are shared by 7 pm today — June 2, 2024, so that appropriate action can be taken,” it has told the Congress leader.

It has said that being a responsible, experienced and very senior leader of a national party, Ramesh must have made such a public statement ahead of the counting day on the basis of facts or information he believes to be true.

  • Exit Polls predictions 2024: BJP will lose significantly in south, says Shashi Tharoor – The Economic Times Video

After the last phase of voting, Congress MP & candidate from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram said that the exit polls were deeply unscientific, he added last year the majority of exit polls got the results wrong in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, BJP will lose significantly in Karnataka and they certainly won’t gain in Kerela and Tamil Nadu. Shashi Tharoor said, “…We have been travelling throughout the country campaigning and have a sense of what is the reality on the ground. Exit polls are deeply unscientific. Last year, the majority of exit polls got the results wrong in Chhattisgarh & Rajasthan. What we are interested in is the real poll- the votes of the public…BJP will lose significantly in Karnataka and they certainly won’t gain in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.”

  • The man who wanted to challenge Modi but lost the battle even before it began

For many years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not just a leader but a hero for Shyam Rangeela, mirroring the admiration held by millions of Indians. Shyam was so inspired that he began to mimic Modi, even mastering the PM’s iconic “Bhaiyon, Behno” greetings.Over time, however, things changed. Shyam experienced a shift in perspective, particularly after facing what he called restrictions on his work from a group of Modi supporters. This marked the beginning of his transformation from a devoted fan into a critic.Recently, the comedian made headlines with his announcement to contest against Modi from Varanasi as an Independent candidate.“Halfway into the show in which I was mimicking the PM, I was asked to walk out, and mend my ways. That day, I felt that my freedom was clipped. Later, I realised that such intimidation was common. Politicians are not so generous in taking humour and criticism,” a ToI report (by Shailvee Sharda) quoted Rangeela as saying.AllUttar PradeshMaharashtraTamil NaduWest BengalBiharKarnatakaAndhra PradeshTelanganaKeralaMadhya PradeshRajasthanDelhiOther StatesJourneying all the way from Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar to file his nomination, Shyam’s efforts were thwarted by a technical error. The reason for the cancellation of his papers was due to the omission of “not taking oath” during submission, leading to what he calls the “shattering of a dream”. Though disappointing, Rangeela sees the rejection as a form of victory. “The cause of freedom for which I stood up got some attention,” he adds, reflecting on his “chhoti si poll story”.Embracing the rejection, Shyam is relishing the moment, giving interviews, and meeting journalists and influencers from around the globe.Sharing his experience with TOI, the comedian says, “Wo kehte they ki challenge ke bina maza nahi aata hai. Why couldn’t Modi ji keep his words?” he wonders, questioning his rejection.

Does he regret his political venture? The narrative doesn’t explicitly answer, leaving room for interpretation.

“Haan, main toh kahin ka nahi raha. BJP wale kehte hain ki maine Modi ji ka mazak banyaya. Congress wale kehte hain main Rahul ki mimicry ki hai. Mujhe dono taraf se kaam nahi milta hai. Chunav mein bahut paisa bhi kharch ho gaya hai to ab naya kaam dhoondh ke hisab theek karna hoga,” Rangeela told the newspaper.

He claimed to the newspaper that he said no to offers to join opposition candidates and target Narendra Modi from a stronger political platform.

“I didn’t want to get tagged. In this way, I will prove my trollers right,” Rangeela adds.

“Jibes such as ‘mazak mazak mein serious ho gaya’ and ‘ghode pe aaya tha nomination bharne’ are very decent compared to allegations like my nomination was rejected because of a pending rape case against me,” he says.

Rangeela says he will miss the love that people showered on him when he announced to contest poll from Kashi.

  • Congress Surrenders 2024 Elections? BJP’s Shah, Nadda Criticises Exit Poll Boycott |

Congress’ Exit Poll Debate Boycott: The BJP has showered the Congress party with cutting remarks since the grand old party announced its decision to not participate in the exit poll debates shows. Home Minister Amit Shah took a dig at Rahul Gandhi saying that his party is in ‘denial mode’. He added that this shows that the opposition has conceded its defeat.

Affirming confidence in the exit polls Shah said that the exit poll will showcase the saffron party alliance getting the ‘400-paar’ remark. The Congress does not have the courage to take questions from the media, so it is dismissing the entire exit poll exercise as meaningless, he added.

He further said that the Congress campaigned through the polls claiming it would get a majority. However, it now realizes the reality and knows it faces a rout in the exit polls to be broadcast after the elections tomorrow.

pic.twitter.com/pxeT3Qw8wA

On the other hand, BJP national president JP Nadda took to social media platform ‘X’ to denounce Congress’ exit poll boycott, he wrote, “Let no one in Phase 7 waste their vote on them.” Nadda said that the resolution of the ‘largest political party in the opposition’ to skip exit poll debates signifies a clear acknowledgment from the opposition party that it has surrendered the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He questioned whether the Congress was suggesting that there existed a large conspiracy involving millions of voters, all aimed at ridiculing the party when the actual results were revealed on June 4th. He remarked that it didn’t suit India’s oldest political party to act like a child whose toy had been taken away. He further added that one would anticipate a certain level of maturity from the largest political party in the opposition.

Congress’s decision to not participate in Exit Polls, on the eve of Phase 7 polling, is an unequivocal confirmation that the Congress has conceded the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is not surprising, since the Congress usually opts out when it doesn’t expect results to go in its…

  • Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Responds To PM Modi’s Health Concerns, Says ‘I’m Perfectly Fine’ |

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged to form a panel to probe the “sudden” deterioration of Naveen Patnaik’s health, the Odisha Chief Minister on Thursday said that he is “perfectly fine”. Biju Janta Dal (BJD) supremo dismissed the “concerns” expressed by PM Modi and said that he has been actively campaigning in the State for the last month. The Prime Minister on Wednesday claimed a “conspiracy” behind Patnaik’s failing health. PM Modi also said that a full majority government would be formed at the Centre for the third time in a row after a five-decade gap.

In an interview with news agency ANI aired on Thursday, Patnaik said that if the PM was so concerned about his health, he would have called him and inquired about his health instead of stating it loudly at a public meeting.

“If the Prime Minister was so concerned about my health, even recently, he said that I’m a good friend of his; all he needed was to pick up the telephone and inquire about my health instead of stating it loudly at a public meeting three times yesterday. My health is perfectly fine. As you can see, I’ve been campaigning for the last month all over the state,” the Odisha CM said.

“And instead of the Prime Minister just picking up the telephone and asking me about my health, he has stated it loudly at a public meeting. This means that all he’s trying to do is garner votes during election time,” he said.

Addressing a poll rally in Baripada for the Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha segment, which goes to vote on June 1, PM Modi said there is a “conspiracy” behind Naveen Patnaik’s sudden deterioration of health and that he would form a committee to look into the Chief Minister’s medical history.

Patnaik claimed that rumours about his health have been spread by BJP leaders for the past decade, and that he has no health issues.

“This rumour has been spread by BJP members in Delhi for the past ten years, with little effect on me. And that is basically all I have to say about it. I have no health problems at all. I am in excellent health. I repeat: I’ve been campaigning for the last month in a very hot season, and I’m fine,” the BJD leader said.

When asked about a viral video showing visible tremors in Patanik’s hand during an election rally, the Odisha chief minister responded, “It’s not a medical condition at all. A visiting BJP chief minister exaggerated the situation for no apparent reason.

Voting for the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh was held on May 20. The seat recorded 55.68% voter turnout.

The accident occurred involving a police escort vehicle in the convoy of Karan Bhushan Singh. • Madhya Pradesh Woman, Who Accused Local BJP Leader Of Sexual Assault, Dies Under Mysterious Circumstance; Congress Slams Saffron Party |

SAGAR: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday demanded the removal of the collector and superintendent of police of Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district after the sister of a slain Dalit youth died under mysterious circumstances. Terming the incident heart-rending, senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on X that BJP leaders are after the Constitution because they don’t want women, Dalits, ST and backwards to live with dignity in the country.

“And they won’t get an opportunity to be heard’ wherever atrocities on women are committed Narendra Modi (Prime Minister) and his government saved the accused. If the sisters against whom atrocities are committed demanded justice, then their families are devastated. The women of the country won’t sit silent anymore,” she wrote.

Singh reached the Barodia Nonagir village to meet the family members of Anjana Ahirwar who died on Sunday after falling from an ambulance carrying her uncle’s body. The administration promised to give Anjana a government job, did they give her one? They made some other promises too like demolishing houses (of the accused), did they demolish? …I am not in favour of bulldozing someone’s house, but you demolish many persons’ houses in the name of action, he said.

Singh spoke to Anjana’s family sitting next to her body and later took part in her funeral. Anjana’s uncle Rajendra Ahirwar was beaten to death on May 25 by some persons over an old enmity, police sources said. Anjana had alleged that her brother Nitin Ahirwar, alias Lalu, was killed in August last year by some people who used to harass her.

Anjana died on Sunday after she fell from an ambulance carrying her uncle’s body in Sagar. Singh demanded the removal of the entire district administration, including the collector and superintendent of police (SP), over the incident. The woman’s family members told Singh that the security provided to them was removed by the administration and even cameras installed in their area were taken away.

Anjana was an educated woman and was taking care of the family. She is no more today and I am very disappointed, Singh said. The Congress leader claimed police security was removed 10 days before the present incident. A lot of pressure was exerted on them to change their statements, he said.
There were three witnesses to the murder of Lalu..One Rajendra, another one was Anjana and third her mother.

Rajendra was killed because he did not come under pressure. And Anjana died, Singh said. Anjana had complained to the police a few days back about mounting pressure to change their statement but cops did not act on it, he alleged. Since the beginning, Anjana had maintained that one Ankit Thakur was involved in the incident, but he was not arrested as he is a muscleman and has been given shelter politically, Singh claimed.

Rajendra Ahirwar (24) died of injuries he had sustained in a clash between two groups under Khurai police station limits, Additional Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sinha earlier told reporters. Anjana fell from the ambulance carrying the body of Rajendra Ahirwar to their village after the postmortem in Sagar. Their family members were accompanying the body, said Sinha. When asked if Rajendra Ahirwar was killed due to pressure for compromise in the old case, Sinha said all facts would come out during the investigation.

Nitin Ahirwar was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people over an old enmity in Sagar district last August. Following his death, Anjana Ahirwar lodged an FIR alleging her brother was murdered as some persons were pressuring her for a compromise in the harassment case.
