The stage is set for a pivotal round of Rajya Sabha elections, with nominations opening Thursday for 37 seats in 10 states. Announced by the Election Commission on February 18, the biennial polls address vacancies from members retiring in April 2026, spanning Maharashtra to Telangana.

A tightly structured timeline ensures smooth execution: nomination scrutiny on March 6, withdrawal deadline March 9, and voting March 16 between 9 AM and 4 PM, with results that evening at 5 PM. Rigorous rules include exclusive use of official purple pens for ballot preferences, barring all other materials to prevent tampering.

Deployment of observers guarantees impartiality, as the Commission emphasizes adherence to protocols. This election’s outcome will reshape the Rajya Sabha’s composition, influencing national policy debates.

BJP moved swiftly, declaring candidates like Bihar’s Nitin Naveen, Shivesh Kumar, and Vinod Tawde; Assam’s Teresh Gowala and Jogen Mohan; Chhattisgarh’s Lakshmi Verma; Haryana’s Sanjay Bhatia; Odisha’s Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar; and West Bengal’s Rahul Sinha. The party also backed Ramdas Athawale for re-election, alongside Maya Iwante and Ramrao Wadkute.

Congress threw its weight behind Sharad Pawar of NCP-SP, a move announced by Harshwardhan Sapkal in the presence of key leaders like Supriya Sule and Vijay Wadettiwar. This endorsement highlights evolving opposition dynamics.

With parties in full campaign mode, these polls signal intense coalition maneuvers and strategic candidate picks, setting the tone for future parliamentary sessions.

The BJP’s Central Election Committee has greenlit nine candidates for the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, with Bihar emerging as a focal point. National President Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Ram are the party’s picks from the state, amid a high-stakes battle for five contested seats.

Deadlines are tight: nominations close March 5, followed by voting and results on March 15. While Maharashtra awaits its announcement, other states see Sanjay Bhatia (Haryana), Rahul Sinha (West Bengal), Lakshmi Verma (Chhattisgarh), Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar (Odisha), and Tarash Gowala with Jagnmohan (Assam).

In Bihar, the expiring terms of Harivansh Narayan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur (JD(U)), Premchandra Gupta and Amarnath Dhari Singh (RJD), and Upendra Kushwaha set the stage for fierce competition. NDA’s assembly strength positions it favorably for four seats, but the fifth demands delicate negotiations for additional legislative backing.

This calculated rollout reflects BJP’s broader strategy to consolidate influence in the Rajya Sabha. Observers note Nitin Nabin’s candidacy as a masterstroke, leveraging his stature to fortify the party’s position in Bihar’s intricate political matrix. Expect wheeling-dealing to intensify as the election date nears.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its initial roster of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. These crucial elections, set to shape the political landscape…

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its initial roster of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. These crucial elections, set to shape the political landscape of the state, will see polling take place on November 6 and November 11, with the final vote count scheduled for November 14. This marks a significant step as the BJP gears up to contest for the 243 seats in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

The political arena is set for a fierce contest. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with the BJP as a key player, will face off against the formidable Mahagathbandhan coalition. This opposition bloc is spearheaded by Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and includes major parties such as the Congress, CPI (ML), CPI, CPM, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP). Adding another dynamic to the electoral battle is the entry of political strategist Prashant Kishor and his newly formed party, Jan Suraaj, who are expected to influence voter sentiment.

Key BJP figures are prominently featured in this first list. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is slated to contest from Tarapur, while another Deputy CM, Vijay Kumar Sinha, will run from Lakhisarai. State Minister Nitin Nabin is set to compete from Bankipur, and Renu Devi will contest from Bettiah. Other notable nominations include Gayatri Devi from Parihar, Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu from Chhatapur, Tarkishore Prasad from Katihar, and Mangal Pandey from Siwan. Kundan Kumar will represent the party in Begusarai.

The NDA’s seat-sharing agreement for Bihar has also been finalized. The BJP and its key ally, the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), will each contest 101 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has been allocated 29 seats, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest six seats each, solidifying the alliance’s strategy for the polls.
