  • Joe Biden, Kamala Harris To Take Oath At US Capitol Next Month In Virtual Ceremony

    US Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced on December 15 that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will take the oath of office at US Capitol next month. This comes after the Electoral College officially declared Joe Biden to be the next President of the US with 306 votes. However, in an update, the committee informed that the ceremony will be comparatively smaller due to the COVID-19 pandemic as it urged the people not to travel for the inauguration on January 20.

    In a press release, the Inaugural Committee stated that the ceremony will be scaled down to limited capacity with rigorous health and safety protocols. The President and the Vice President will be sworn in the tradition that started in 1801 with the first US President Thomas Jefferson taking oath in Washington.  According to the release, the committee was planning an event along with the Joint Congressional Committee honour the American tradition, however keeping it safe for safe from the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The US President-elect vowed that the “flame of democracy” in the United States was lit in this nation a long time ago and nothing can extinguish the same, even the global health crisis. 

  • Putin Congratulates Biden On Wining US Presidential Election

    Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 15 congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on winning presidential elections following Electoral College sealing the results. The Democratic challenger defeated incumbent Donald Trump after state-by-state Electoral College vote that officially determines the next President of the United States. 

    Kremlin, which had said that it would wait for the official results to roll out to officially congratulate Biden even though other world leaders had begun pouring wishes in November, reportedly said on December 15 that Putin is now “ready for interaction and contact” with the president-elect.

    As per reports, Kremlin relayed Putin’s remarks for Biden who wishes “every success and expressed confidence” that both Russia and the United States could contribute to solving many global problems despite the budding differences. Putin reportedly underlined the responsibility of both nations for global security and stability and said that Russia is ready for ‘collaboration’ with the US President-elect.

    After members of the Electoral College gathered in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to cast their ballots and declared Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential elections on December 14, the US President-elect hailed the nation’s democracy that “proved to be true”. Hailing his victory over incumbent Donald Trump, Biden said that the rule of the law and the US constitution along with the will of the Americans “prevailed” especially when Trump attempted to mount legal battles to undo the results of US Election 2020. 

    In a speech on Monday from Delaware, the president-elect not only unleashed one of the most direct criticisms of Trump’s failing efforts but also launched a detailed defence of his historic victory in the presidential elections. Biden even catalogued all the failures of Donald Trump and his campaign, allies in state and federal courts along with state legislatures and several recounts that did not change the outcome of the democratic process, the credibility of which was also questioned by the Republican leader. According to the president-elect, Trump’s efforts to overturn the results were “so extreme we’ve never seen it before.”

  • Joe Biden Reiterates He ‘will Be President For All Americans’ After Electors Confirm Win

    US President-elect Joe Biden sealed his electoral victory over Donald Trump after gaining 270 electoral college votes on December 14. Following his win, Biden delivered a speech from his home city of Wilmington, Delaware and reiterated that he “will be a President for all Americans”. He appealed to “turn the page” on the divisive contest and said that it is “time to heal and to unite”.

    On Monday, while the 78-year-old Democrat was already projected to surge past the magic mark, the additional 55 votes from California electors took his total vote count to 302. According to AP, in the states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, elector’s gave Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris their votes in person whereas Nevada’s electors met via Zoom because of the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump, on the other hand, earlier this week said that his fight to challenge the result of the November 3 presidential polls is “not over”.

    America’s newly elected President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have received major honors. Time magazine named him ‘Person of the Year’ for 2020. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris created history by winning the presidential election on November 7 this year. Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election. At the same time, Kamla Harris has been elected the first black and first South Asian Vice President of America. In 2016, Time magazine selected Donald Trump as ‘Person of the Year’.

    Time editor Edward Felsenthal said, ‘Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were chosen as Time magazine’s 2020 Person of the Year for their change in American story, for showing more empathy for divisive agendas and for giving the world a hope. goes.’

    Time magazine started the tradition in 1927 of choosing the most influential person of the year as ‘Man of the Year’. The name was later changed to Person of the Year.     US President-elect Joe Biden appointed Indian-American Neera Tanden as his director of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as a part of his economic team. Speaking at the introduction of members of Biden’s economic team, Neera Tanden spoke of her Indian roots while citing similarities between her mother and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris’s mother Shyamala Gopalan. Sharing her story from being a middle-class kid from the suburbs of Boston living off social programs to being nominated to shape and ensure the security of the social programs, Neera Tanden said that it is because of the social programs that she is where is she.Speaking further Neera Tanden said that the US government is ‘meant to serve all American people alike including Republicans, Democrats, and Independents’.

    She further added that all people know that the ‘government has their back’. Thanking her mother for her determination as well as the US government for ‘investing in humanity’, Tanden added that she is ‘beyond honoured’. Apart from Tanden, several other key members of Joe Biden’s economic team delivered a speech at the introduction event including Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen,  Deputy Secretary of Treasury Wally Adeyemo, Chair of Council of Economic Advisers Cecilia Rouse along with Economic Advisers Council members Jared Bernstein and Heather Boushey.

    US President-elect Joe Biden recently said that Indian-origin Neera Tanden understands the struggles of working Americans because she has lived them. Earlier this week, Biden had formally announced Tanden’s nomination as the head of Office of Management and Budget (OMB). While hailing Tanden for her “brilliant policy mind,” Biden said that she will always be motivated to help the families and create a budget, that reflects the values of America.

His economic team includes Janet Yellen as the Treasury Secretary, Indian-American Neera Tanden as the Director of Office of Management and Budget, Wally Adeyemo the as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Cecilia Rouse as the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein and Heather Boushey as members of the Council of Economic Advisers.

  • China Stepping-up Efforts To Influence President-elect Biden’s Administration: US Official

    A top US intelligence official has warned against an increase in China’s efforts to influence the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden. William Evanina, from the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said that China would now redirect its influence campaigns to the new administration, adding the Chinese were also focusing on people close to Biden and those close to officials in his new administration. 

    This comes following reports of alleged Chinese meddling in the recently-concluded US elections, which saw both candidates shower accusations at each other of being Beijing’s stooge. While Trump accused his rival’s son Hunter Biden of operating illegitimate businesses in China, Biden called out the president for having a Chinese Bank account. The United States intelligence community had warned prior to the election that China is trying hard to influence the election result. The US has also accused China of trying to steal COVID-19 vaccine research by targeting American firms since the beginning of the outbreak.
