In a bid to sharpen their edge for the continental showdown, India’s U-17 men’s football team is set to clash with Myanmar in back-to-back friendlies on March 3 and 5 in Yangon. As the countdown to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 in Saudi Arabia ticks down, these matches represent key milestones in the Blue Colts’ preparation calendar.

Already battle-tested with four international friendlies this year—two each against Tajikistan in Goa and Turkey in Antalya—the team led by Bibiano Fernandes has shown remarkable resilience. Post-Turkey, they’ve maintained momentum with intensive sessions in Goa. The AIFF confirmed the squad’s travel to Myanmar on February 28, setting the stage for high-stakes encounters.

Myanmar, fellow qualifiers from the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, dominated their Group C qualifiers, surpassing Oman, Syria, Afghanistan, and Nepal. This parity makes the friendlies an ideal dress rehearsal. India’s Group D opponents include formidable foes: Australia (May 6), Uzbekistan (May 10), and Korea (May 13), in a tournament hosting 16 elite teams around Jeddah.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Top two from each group progress to quarterfinals and secure FIFA U-17 World Cup berths. With Qatar auto-qualified as hosts, their deep run could propel the strongest third-placer forward too. Group A features Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Myanmar; Group B has Japan, Indonesia, China, and Qatar.

This edition marks the 21st AFC U-17 Asian Cup, a flagship youth competition run by the Asian Football Confederation for men’s under-17 sides. India’s spot highlights their youth development strides. These Myanmar games are crucial for tactical refinement, squad selection, and building the unbreakable spirit needed to conquer Asia.
