A high-level meeting between Odisha’s Commerce & Transport and Energy Departments on Wednesday focused on the upcoming Odisha Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0. The aim is to significantly increase the adoption of electric vehicles. The state plans to target at least 50% Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in all new vehicle registrations by 2036. This move is a substantial leap from the 1.16% EV registration in 2021 to the current 8.71% as of June 20, 2025. The state is also working on revising the Odisha EV Policy 2021, with key elements including extending the validity and enhancing incentives for EV buyers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs). Other points include incentivizing empanelled CPOs, exploring ICE vehicles to create an EV fund, and addressing range anxiety by deploying Public Charging Stations (PCS). Odisha will also leverage the PM e-DRIVE Scheme for financial assistance. The state aims to be a model EV ecosystem, reduce emissions, and promote green mobility.
