The Boxing Day Test match between India and Australia is being played at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia captain Tim Paine has won the toss and decided to bat first. There have been four changes in the playing eleven of Team India, while there has been no change in the playing eleven of the Australian team. In front of India’s superb bowling, Australia’s batsmen have completely succumbed and the team is all out after scoring just 195 runs in the first innings. For Team India, Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets. India’s team scored 36 runs at the loss of one wicket at the end of the first day’s play. • After pep talk, expectant father Virat Kohli leaves Australian shores for India

Indian captain Virat Kohli left Australian shores on Tuesday after a pep talk with his beleaguered teammates, handing over the mantle of leading the side to Ajinkya Rahane in the remaining three Tests.
Kohli is coming back to India for the birth of his first child in January.
Before boarding his flight back home, the star batsman met his teammates and encouraged them to give their all in the remainder of the series, which the visitors trail 0-1 after the heavy defeat in the opening Test.

Long before setting foot on Australia, Rahane had been entrusted with the responsibility of leading in the team in Kohli’s absence after the star had approached the BCCI for paternity leave.
The idea behind organising the pep talk was to boost the confidence of the players and keep them in a positive frame of mind heading into the crucial Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
India lost the lung-opener here inside three days after crumbling to their lowest Test score of 36.

  • Marcus Harris drafted into injury-hit Australia squad

Opening batsman Marcus Harris has been called into Australia’s first test squad as the hosts count the cost of a number of injuries ahead of the first test against India in Adelaide.

David Warner had already been ruled out of the squad after he suffered a groin injury in the one-day series, while Will Pucovski suffered a concussion after he was hit in the head while batting for Australia A against the tourists.

“Given the spate of injuries in recent weeks, we’re fortunate to be able to bring a player of Marcus’ calibre into the test squad,” national selector Trevor Hohns said in a statement on Saturday.

“Marcus has been in outstanding form for Victoria this season and has had the benefit of facing India’s bowlers in both three-day tour matches.

“At the same time, we are disappointed for David and Will that they will not be available for the first test.
