  • Illegal land trade: Ayodhya Development Authority names mayor, BJP MLA among 40 people

    By PTI

AYODHYA: City mayor, a local BJP MLA and a former party legislator are among the 40 people who have been accused by the Ayodhya Development Authority of illegally trading plots and building infrastructure there.

Taking a dig at the BJP on the issue, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said the saffron party’s “bhrashtachari” (corrupts) should at least spare Ayodhya.

Mayor Rishikesh Upadhyay and MLA Ved Prakash Gupta have, however, claimed innocence and alleged foul play in the list of alleged offenders released by the authority.

When contacted, they told PTI that they will give legal notice to Ayodhya Development Authority over the “false charges”.

“The list of 40 people who illegally bought and sold land and got construction work done in the authority area was released on Saturday night,” the authority’s vice chairman Vishal Singh told PTI on Sunday.

He said action will be taken against all 40 people.

Speaking to PTI, Upadhyay and Gupta alleged a conspiracy, saying they have been falsely implicated in the case.

The name of Gorakhnath Baba, a former BJP MLA from Milkipur, also features in the list.

Prior to the assembly elections held earlier this year, rival parties in the state had raised the issue of illegal purchase and sale of land in Ayodhya.

Local MP Lallu Singh had written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a probe by a Special Investigation Team into the matter.

SP chief Yadav in a tweet in Hindi said, “We have said it before and are repeating it again. The BJP’s corrupt, at least spare Ayodhya.”

He also tagged a media report to back his allegation.

His party demanded an investigation into the matter and action against the culprits.

“Sin by BJP workers in Ayodhya! BJP’s Mayor, local MLA and former MLA are establishing illegal colonies in association with land mafia. In collusion with responsible departments, 30 illegal colonies have been set up, causing loss of state revenue to the tune of hundreds of crores. The matter should be investigated. Action should be taken against the culprits,” the SP said on its official twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Ayodhya’s BJP spokesperson Rajneesh Singh, said, “Our Chief Minister will take strict action on every sin done in Ayodhya”.

Mahant Raju Das, a priest at Ayodhya’s Hanumangarhi temple, has demanded CBI enquiry against the land mafia.

Alleging that people from bureaucracy are also land mafias, Das said their names are not included in the list.

  • Vision document being prepared for Ayodhya, three consultancy firms on the job

    By PTI
AYODHYA: The Ayodhya Development Authority has hired three consultants to draft a vision document for the Uttar Pradesh city, which has grand plans for itself as a Ram temple comes up.

Sources said the Prime Minister’s Office is likely to be shown the vision document, on which the three firms are working since mid-February.

Ayodhya Development Authority vice-chairman Vishal Singh said the document will also take into account the inputs from about 500 people.

LEA Associates South Asia Private Ltd, L&T and Kukreja Architects were picked to finalise the vision, implementation strategy and an integrated infrastructure plan for the city, Singh told PTI.

Lea Associates was involved in drafting the Tirupati Master Plan and Kukreja Architects in planning the Malaysian transit corridor, he said.

The state government had begun the process of selecting consultants on December 26 by publishing a request for proposals.

The Uttar Pradesh government had set up a bid evaluation committee under the chairmanship of Deepak Kumar, principal secretary for housing and urban planning, to pick the consultants from a short list of those which met the qualification criteria.

The selected consultancy firms will conduct a survey, identify stakeholders and hold comprehensive discussions, the vice-chairman said.

National and international case studies will be taken into account.

They will draw up the document on Ayodhya’s development keeping the Ram Mandir and the city’s religious character in view.

The document will deal with aspects like town planning, infrastructure development, transport, traffic, finance and tourism, according to the official.

It will also include the development of places linked to seers in adjoining districts.

The Yogi Adityanath government has already announced several projects in Ayodhya city and the district, which will be completed as the construction of the Ram temple continues.

In its November 2019 judgment on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the construction of the temple.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the “bhoomi pujan” ceremony marking the beginning of construction.

Following the SC judgment, the administration has allotted an alternative site in the district for a mosque.

The Babri mosque was demolished in December 1992 by kar sevaks, insisting that it was built at the site where a Hindu temple once stood.
