IRCTC is set to implement a new policy that requires Aadhaar-based authentication for booking reserved general tickets, effective October 1st. This new rule will be in effect for the initial 15 minutes of the reservation window. The Indian Railways states that this measure aims to ensure genuine users can access the benefits of the reservation system while preventing unauthorized individuals and middlemen from exploiting the system. However, the existing 10-minute limit for authorized railway ticketing agents to book reserved tickets on the opening day remains unchanged. A key point of confusion is whether individuals will be able to book tickets during the first 15 minutes if their Aadhaar information hasn’t been updated.

In today’s digital age, fraudulent messages and calls pose a significant threat. Individuals can inadvertently fall prey to these deceptive communications, leading to potential breaches of their bank accounts. Cybercriminals are employing increasingly sophisticated tactics, making it challenging to distinguish between authentic and fake messages. However, TRAI has implemented regulations to help differentiate legitimate and fraudulent SMS messages.

Fraudsters typically send promotional messages from banks, government agencies, telecom operators, or e-commerce companies. Cybercriminals create counterfeit messages that mimic these, often containing links that, when clicked, can introduce malware or viruses into your phone. These threats can steal your personal data, banking details, and passwords, subsequently used to withdraw funds from your account.

TRAI has introduced a system for identifying SMS messages. Authentic messages now include a sender ID with a suffix:

* **S**: This code indicates messages related to banking, telecom services, or transactions.
* **G**: This is for messages related to government schemes or alerts.
* **P**: This code is used for promotional messages sent by companies whitelisted by TRAI.

Understanding these codes allows you to quickly determine if an SMS is genuine or fake. It’s wise to avoid clicking on any message that arrives without these codes or includes suspicious links.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to launch a new mobile application called E Aadhaar. Currently in development, this app promises to allow users to complete four key Aadhaar-related tasks directly from their mobile devices. The app will be released for both Android and Apple users. While the exact release date is not yet available, the app will enable users to manage their Aadhaar information conveniently. This includes the ability to update name, address, date of birth, and mobile number directly through the smartphone. This eliminates the need to visit Aadhaar centers for these specific updates, offering significant convenience to the public. UIDAI CEO Bhuvanesh Kumar mentioned that approximately 2,000 authentication devices out of 1 lakh have been upgraded to support the upcoming system. The new app aims to eliminate the need for physical Aadhaar copies during hotel check-ins and travel, providing users with a secure way to confirm their identity.
