Mahindra & Mahindra experienced a mixed performance in August 2025. The company reported total sales of 75,901 vehicles, nearly matching the 75,883 units sold during the same month the previous year. While overall figures remained stable, sales varied across different segments. Domestic SUV sales reached 39,399 units, marking an approximate 9% decrease year-over-year. Uncertainty surrounding GST reforms appears to be influencing SUV demand, with customers adopting a wait-and-see approach pending the final tax rate announcements. The commercial vehicle segment performed better for Mahindra, with sales in this category totaling 32,954 units, a 12% increase compared to the previous year. Exports also saw a rise of 16%, with a total of 3,548 units shipped to foreign markets. The company anticipates a boost in sales during the upcoming festive season. Mahindra plans to launch several new SUVs in India by the end of 2026, including facelifts of the Thar 3-door, XUV700, and Scorpio N, along with a new electric SUV, the next-generation Bolero and Bolero EV, as well as XUV 3XO hybrid and EV models. The updated Mahindra Thar is expected to be available for sale in the coming months. The XUV700 and Scorpio N facelifts are anticipated to launch in early 2026.

India witnessed significant rainfall during August 2025, marking one of the wettest Augusts in recent decades. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported exceptional showers across numerous states. The IMD Director General highlighted a strong revival of monsoon activity in the latter half of August, with expectations of continued above-normal rainfall into September. The total rainfall for August across India reached 268.1 mm, ranking as the 7th highest since 2001 and the 45th highest since 1901. North-west India experienced the highest rainfall since 2001 with 265.0 mm, ranking 13th since 1901. South Peninsular India also saw substantial rainfall, with 250.6 mm recorded, placing it 3rd since 2001 and 8th since 1901. This heavy rainfall was attributed to the formation of four low-pressure systems within a fortnight, significantly boosting seasonal rainfall.

Average maximum temperatures stood at 31.08°C, the 22nd highest since 1901, while average minimum temperatures were 23.96°C, the 7th highest since 1901. The mean temperature for the month was 27.52°C, the 15th highest since 1901. For September, the IMD forecasts wetter-than-usual conditions, with most regions expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall. Some areas in northeast and east India, parts of the southern peninsula, and a few pockets in northwest India may experience below-normal rainfall. The IMD noted no immediate forecast for monsoon withdrawal, but highlighted a delayed withdrawal trend in recent years, with a 15-day delay observed, now typically around September 17th, compared to the earlier average of September 1st.
