A joint team of Rajasthan ATS and ANTF apprehended Bajrang Singh, a former NSG commando and the primary mastermind behind an illegal cannabis smuggling operation spanning Rajasthan, Odisha, and Telangana. Singh, who was once part of the team that responded to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was arrested in Ratangarh, Churu. Authorities seized 200 kilograms of cannabis from his possession. Singh, a resident of the Sikar district in Rajasthan, had been under police surveillance for some time. A reward of 25,000 rupees had been announced for his capture. The arrest was the culmination of ‘Operation Ganjane,’ conducted by the Rajasthan ATS and Anti-Narcotics Task Force. The operation to capture the former NSG commando lasted two months. Intelligence suggested he employed only Odia cooks to prepare his meals. Information from the cooks’ relatives provided technical leads that led to Singh’s arrest. After retiring, he turned to organized drug trafficking after facing political setbacks and quickly became a large-scale cannabis trafficker. Law enforcement officials believe that this arrest will help curb drug trafficking. They hope it will aid in stopping the large-scale illegal drug trade from Odisha and Telangana to Rajasthan. Singh joined the NSG after completing his 10th grade and was part of the special commando unit that responded to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. After retiring in 2021, his life took a turn, leading him to organized drug trafficking.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested four individuals – Akmal Raza, Safeel Salmani (also known as Ali Razvi), Mohd Tausif, and Kasim Ali – in connection with the ‘I Love Muhammad’ controversy. The arrests, made on Monday, followed investigations into alleged plans to overthrow the government through violent jihad and establish Sharia law. The ATS reported that the suspects were part of a Mujahideen Army and were influenced by radical Pakistani organizations. These groups purportedly held meetings, used social media to incite violence, and solicited funds to procure weapons for terrorist activities. Their alleged plans included targeting and killing non-Muslim religious leaders.

In a first for the state of Jharkhand, a notorious criminal, Mayank Singh, also known as Sunil Meena, has been arrested and brought back from abroad. He faces over 40 serious charges, including firing, murder, extortion, and threats. This marks a historic extradition for the Jharkhand Police. An ATS team escorted him to Birsa Munda Airport, where tight security measures were in place.

Despite being outside the country, he continued to operate a criminal network.

On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar area, resulting in the loss of all lives on board except one. The flight carried 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian citizen. Tragically, several medical students from BJ Medical College, including four MBBS students and a doctor’s wife, also perished in the incident. The DGCA is involved, requesting reports and potentially issuing ‘Show Cause Notices’. The NSG team recovered the black box, and the Gujarat ATS is actively investigating, including retrieving the DVR from CCTV cameras. Forensic teams are gathering evidence, and the black box’s contents, including the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), will be crucial in understanding the cause of the crash. The NIA has ruled out any suspicion of conspiracy or criminal collusion.
