An artwork titled ‘Art of Triumph,’ presented by Bangladesh’s Interim Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to a visiting Turkish parliamentary delegation, has ignited significant regional controversy. This presentation follows similar disclosures to a Pakistani military official. Intelligence sources indicate the ‘artwork’ was more than just a visual piece, reportedly containing strategic ‘battle plans’ and ‘post-victory management frameworks’ proposing Assam, India, as a region under Dhaka’s influence.

The same controversial map, outlining a ‘Greater Bangladesh’ vision encompassing India’s northeastern states, particularly Assam, was previously shared with Nurul Izzah Anwar, vice president of Malaysia’s People’s Justice Party, and representatives of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest these presentations were deliberate strategic signals, aimed at specific transnational Islamist networks that perceive Bangladesh’s interim leadership as a key component of broader strategic consolidation. The timing of these gestures is under intense scrutiny, coinciding with Turkey’s expanding influence across South and Southeast Asia through military cooperation, drone technology, and ideological partnerships. Turkey has notably strengthened its ties with Dhaka since early 2024, fostering training programs, defense collaborations, and technology investments, viewing Bangladesh as a strategic counterweight to India’s growing regional power.

For Bangladesh’s interim government, these burgeoning ties with Ankara offer crucial international legitimacy and new defense connections amid domestic uncertainty. Analysts view the ‘Greater Bangladesh’ reference as the first overt territorial assertion from Dhaka’s interim administration, potentially designed to gauge regional reactions and solidify support among Islamist factions both domestically and internationally. Indian security agencies are reportedly monitoring these developments with heightened attention, concerned about the potential for rhetorical escalation and increased tensions along a sensitive border region.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the viscera examination report concerning the alleged poisoning of Zubeen Garg is expected by October 10, with detailed findings anticipated the following day. He emphasized that police are meticulously documenting all witness statements within the case diary, regardless of their nature. The Chief Minister clarified that reports suggesting poisoning originate from an accused’s claim, not official police conclusions. Sarma also appealed to the Assamese community to encourage the prompt return of key suspects currently in Singapore, highlighting their cooperation’s importance for a swift investigation. He noted that the cooperation of individuals involved in Zubeen Garg’s yacht travel is critical.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that he will provide all information related to the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death exclusively through Facebook Live to avoid misunderstandings. Speaking at an official event, the Chief Minister claimed that various media outlets present selected portions of press conferences according to their target audiences, leading to public confusion. He stated that any statements regarding Garg’s death and the investigation will be made solely on Facebook Live to ensure direct communication with the public. The CM explained that media coverage often involves selective editing or omission, potentially creating unnecessary tension among the public. The Chief Minister had previously announced the formation of a judicial commission to investigate Zubeen’s death via a Facebook Live broadcast on Friday. Following this, the Chief Minister visited Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima, at her residence in Kahilipara after arriving in Guwahati. Earlier in the day, Zubeen’s wife had returned the post-mortem report of the deceased singer to the police, stating it was not her personal document and that investigators should decide whether to make it public. Singer Zubeen Garg died in mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. He was in Singapore to participate in the fourth Northeast India Festival organized by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company. The CID’s nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the circumstances surrounding Zubeen’s death in Singapore. CM Sarma mentioned that the Assam Police cannot travel to Singapore to investigate Zubeen’s death. He added that they cannot establish connections until relevant individuals come forward.

Singer Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19th in Singapore. Following his death, which occurred before a performance, authorities have arrested four individuals. Initial reports suggested scuba diving as the cause, though later reports indicated drowning. Singapore has paid tribute to the singer by renaming the island where he died as ‘Zubeen Garg Island.’ This change is reflected on Google Maps. The move has been met with appreciation and shared on social media. Meanwhile, the CID has added murder charges to the case. The investigation continues, with a police team preparing to travel to Singapore. Zubeen Garg was scheduled to perform on December 20th in Singapore. After his death, over 60 FIRs were filed in Assam, and the Assam government has formed a judicial commission to investigate the death.

Following the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the police have initiated continuous action. Assam Police announced the arrest of Siddhartha Sharma, the singer’s manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of a festival, from Delhi on Wednesday morning. A senior police officer revealed that both individuals have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.

After their arrest, the accused were brought to Guwahati and presented before the Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, where they were remanded to 14 days of police custody. Due to Durga Puja, the court was closed, and the hearing took place at the judge’s residence. Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death would be conducted “according to the law.” Munna Prasad, the head of the SIT formed to investigate Garg’s death, confirmed that both have been sent to 14 days of police custody. He also mentioned that an Interpol “lookout notice” had already been issued against them. Based on the notice, immigration officials detained Shyamkanu Mahanta upon his arrival at the Delhi airport from Singapore and handed him over to the Assam Police.

The Special DGP further added that Sharma’s location was tracked in Delhi and Rajasthan. He was arrested near the Delhi-Haryana border. Police have seized their mobile phones, including Zubeen Garg’s phone. Police sources shared images of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma behind bars at the CID office. Tight security was present during the journey to the airport and the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s residence, with Assam Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) accompanying the convoy. Meanwhile, the state government has recently imposed a ban on Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the Northeast Festival, from organizing any events or programs in the state.

Zubeen Garg was in Singapore before his death to attend the festival. Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, who is in Jorhat for the singer’s 13th-day ceremony, expressed her satisfaction that both were brought to Assam, as they are all waiting to know what happened to him in his last moments. Garima Garg said she has full faith in the investigation team and hopes to know soon what exactly happened in Singapore. The Assam government had constituted a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) last month to investigate the singer’s death in Singapore on September 19 due to drowning.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier stated that a ‘lookout notice’ had been issued against Mahanta and Sharma through Interpol, asking them to appear before the CID by October 6.
