Ashwin first sent Steve Smith (1), then Travis Head (7), followed by debutant Cameron Green (11). After this, Ashwin also dismissed Nathan Lyon (10).

  • IPL 20: Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs

The 23rd match of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League was played between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals at the ground in Sharjah. In this match, Delhi team defeated Rajasthan badly. Delhi Capitals, captained by Shreyas Iyer, won their fifth match in IPL 2020 by 46 runs and regained the number one position in the table. In this match, Rajasthan team captain Steve Smith decided to bowl after winning the toss. In such a situation, the Delhi team, batting first, scored 184 runs, losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.

In this way, there was a target of 185 runs for victory in front of Rajasthan, but Rajasthan team collapsed by scoring 138 runs in 19.4 overs and lost the match by 46 runs. This is Rajasthan’s fourth defeat in IPL 2020. Rajasthan’s start was not very good and Delhi spinner R Ashwin got them caught at the hands of Dhawan on the score of 13 runs. Captain Steve Smith scored 24 off 17 balls and was dismissed by Enrique Norkhia.

Hetmyer caught Smith’s catch. Sanju Samson’s poor form continues continuously and he surrendered by scoring only 5 runs. On the ball of Stoinis he caught his catch to Hetmyer. Mahipal Lomore became a victim of Ashwin by scoring a run and his catch Akshar Patel caught Akshar Patel on the short cover. Yashaswi Jaiswal played a good innings of 34 runs, but he was bowled clean by Stoynis. Andrew Tye scored 6 runs and caught Rabada off Akshar Patel. Jofra Archer scored 2 runs and was dismissed by Rabada. Shreyas Gopal returned to the pavilion after scoring 2 runs. Rahul Tewatia became the victim of Rabada after scoring 38 runs. Varun Aaron could score a run. After losing the toss and batting first, the Delhi Capitals team got the first blow in the second over when opener Shikhar Dhawan became the victim of Joffra Archer by scoring 5 runs.

  • Ashwin said – Finch was not dismissed from Mankanding due to friendship

R Ashwin did not dismiss RCB’s Aaron Finch from Mankding in the match between Delhi and RCB on Monday night. Revealing the reasons for Finch not being dismissed on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said – Finch did not run out due to friendship even after going out of the crease on non-strike during the IPL match on Monday. Left them as a final warning. We know each other quite well. In 2018, both of us were in the team of Kings XI Punjab. We have spent many evenings together.

Ashwin said, “I was about to bowl, then I saw that Finch was far ahead of the crease. I stopped. I was thinking of getting out. Finch stopped. He started looking at me, but did not come to the crease. He stayed there. I don’t know why they stayed. ” Ashwin dismissed batsman Jose Butler in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019 when he was out of the crease on non-strike. Ashwin was the captain of the Kings XI Punjab team at that time. Ashwin was criticized by many cricketers. At the same time, before the IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting said that he would talk to Ashwin about not being dismissed from Mankanding.

  • Ashwin’s Stern Message to Out-of-form KXIP

More often than not, a target of 133 would not be defended in today’s day and age of T20 cricket. But in the on-going season of the IPL, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have not only defended 133, but also previously managed to defend 119. On Thursday evening, when they achieved one of the said feats, the opponents or victims of some fantastic bowling and fielding was the Kings XI Punjab.

The KXIP side which has Chris Gayle at the top of the order along with KL Rahul began in their usual busy manner before Rashid Khan and Basil Thampi engineered what would be eventually a middle order collapse. After the loss of the two openers, the Punjab batsmen could manage only another 62 runs as they crumbled under pressure and succumbed to a 13-run defeat.

A rather disappointed KXIP captain R Ashwin was quoted by the Hindustan Times saying, “These things (batting collapse) happen in this kind of a tournament and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling made the difference. We lost wickets throughout the middle (overs) and I thought we kept attacking a little too much and lost few wickets,” he said after the match.

For Ashwin’s side, the middle-order has been a problem and it was at the forefront once again. For the Punjab franchise, the main scoring batsmen so far have been Gayle, Rahul and Karun Nair. The rest together total a little over 100 runs in the season.
After the loss, Ashwin said he hoped that batsmen will pull up their socks and come good in due course of time.
“We do have finishers but they are not coming off. You won’t get all the puzzles solved at once. Hopefully, some of the people whom we have trusted will come good at the right time. That’s how you get going. They are quality players,” he said.

  • Kapil Dev Backs Ravichandran Ashwin’s Leg-Spin Bowling

Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner, has been bowling more of leg-spins these days and it is quite evident in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2018. Some have criticised his more-than-usual variations but India legend Kapil Dev has backed his leg-breaks. Everybody has a different bowling attack, depending on which pitch they are playing. But what we have come to know from the first or second IPL (till) now, is that the most successful bowler to come out is the leg-spinner,” Kapil Dev said. “Every team has their leg-spinner. Even a bowler like (Ravichandran) Ashwin, he likes to bowl more leg-spin than off spin. That shows the leg-spinners are more successful than anybody else,” he added.

Ashwin is leading Kings XI Punjab this season, after having turned out for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant in the past editions.

In the current edition of the T20 league, leg-spinners have been largely successful with Mumbai Indians’ rookie Mayank Markande shining in the first three games for his franchise.

SunRisers Hyderabad, too, have a good leg-spinner in Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, while his compatriot Mujeeb Ur Rahman is also a wrist spinner who plays under Ashwin.

Even the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore possess a successful leggie in Yuzvendra Chahal.

The 59-year-old former cricketer pointed out how a leggie like Karn Sharma had edged out experienced offie Harbhajan Singh for CSK vs Rajasthan Royals match on Friday.

“Karn is playing, not Harbhajan (Singh), so Chennai is playing with two leg-spinners (the other being Imran Tahir). So, everybody is there with an extra leg-spinner. I think that is where in spinners you don’t see so many off-spinners, you don’t see left-arm spinners so much, but you see leg spinners definitely,” Kapil added.
