LOS ANGELES: “Call Me By Your Name” actor Armie Hammer has left a treatment facility after spending more than half a year there amid a police investigation over sexual assault allegations.

The 35-year-old actor had joined the Florida-based program for drug, alcohol, and sex issues in May.

In a statement to E! online, Hammer’s attorney said the actor was doing great after leaving the facility.

“I can confirm that Mr. Hammer has left the treatment facility and is doing great,” the statement read.

It was reported in March that the actor was under police investigation after a woman alleged he violently raped her in 2017.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson had said at the time that Hammer was the main suspect in a sexual assault that was reported to police on February 3.

Hours before the investigation, a woman called Effie accused Hammer of rape in a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred.

WASHINGTON: Actor Armie Hammer has checked himself into a rehabilitation centre in Florida to get treatment for several addiction issues, amid several months of sexual abuse allegations, reported TMZ.

TMZ has learnt that Hammer checked himself in at a rehab facility outside of Orlando on May 31 and has been getting treatment since then. The actor has agreed to stay at the property as long as it takes him to get healthy.

According to the sources, Hammer also contacted his estranged wife- Elizabeth Chambers, in late May to inform her about his decision that he was leaving the Cayman Islands, where he had been staying for months to seek treatment for his addictions with drugs, alcohol and sex.

The 34-year-old actor has been in a custody battle in his and Elizabeth’s ongoing divorce and also been accused of several sexual assaults since January.

Hammer, was dropped from several movies including the much-anticipated ‘The Offer’, Jennifer Lopez’s action-comedy ‘Shotgun Wedding’, the thriller drama ‘Billion Dollar Spy’ and the Broadway show ‘The Minutes’ in January after several women accused him on social media of sending them explicit messages about rape and cannibalism.

After losing several roles in the wake of alleged social media misdemeanour, the Golden-Globe nominee was also accused of ‘violent’ rape by a woman named Effie, who claimed to be Hammer’s ex-girlfriend. She claimed during a press conference in March that Hammer had ‘violently’ raped her in 2017 for over four hours.

Hammer however denied all the allegations at that time saying “all of his interactions with [Effie]– and every other sexual partner of his for that matter- have been completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.”

  • Armie Hammer exits Broadway play ‘The Minutes’ amid sexual assault allegations

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: American actor Armie Hammer has departed the Broadway play ‘The Minutes’ amid an investigation being conducted by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The actor, who is currently being investigated in a sexual assault case, shared a statement on Friday explaining his exit from the Tracy Letts play, which was set to resume production in the 2021-22 season after being interrupted during previews by the novel coronavirus pandemic, reported Variety.

“I have loved every single second of working on The Minutes with the family I made from Steppenwolf,” his statement said.

He added, “But right now I need to focus on myself and my health for the sake of my family. Consequently, I will not be returning to Broadway with the production.”

“Armie remains a valued colleague to all of us who have worked with him onstage and offstage on The Minutes. We wish only the best for him and respect his decision,” the play’s production team added in a statement.

Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, ‘The Minutes’ first premiered at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2017. The play takes a look at the inner workings of a city council meeting and the hypocrisy, greed and ambition that bubble to the surface when a newcomer to the small town of Big Cherry starts to ask the wrong questions.

Hammer’s career began to implode in January when the actor became the subject of a social media controversy after screenshots that seemed to show the actor describing sexual fantasies involving rape and cannibalism surfaced online.

Since the scandal, multiple women have come forward and accused Hammer of emotional abuse, manipulation, violence, and, most recently, rape.

Earlier this week, Hammer was dropped from his last film project, the upcoming thriller ‘Billion Dollar Spy’.

Hammer has also bowed out of ‘The Offer’, Paramount+’s drama series about the making of The Godfather. He was replaced by Josh Duhamel in ‘Shotgun Wedding’, the romantic comedy he was set to star in opposite Jennifer Lopez. Hammer has also been dropped by his agency, WME and his personal publicist.

However, Hammer has a major role in Disney’s upcoming ‘Death on the Nile’, which will be released in 2022 and was shot long before the scandal.

After months of swirling accusations about Hammer, a woman named Effie, who has not publicly revealed her last name, came forward publicly to accuse the actor of rape last month.

Appearing in a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred on March 18, Effie, the woman behind the Instagram account House of Effie that first anonymously shared allegations against Hammer, accused him of sexual assault in a four-hour incident that she said occurred in 2017.

Effie also accused Hammer of “mentally, emotionally and sexually” abusing her during their on-and-off four-year relationship. At the time of their romance, Hammer was married to Elizabeth Chambers, who filed for divorce from Hammer in July of last year.

Hours after the press conference, a spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed Hammer is the suspect in an investigation opened on February 3.

In a statement previously provided to People magazine, Hammer’s lawyer Andrew Brettler denied the rape allegation and maintained that the actor’s relationship with Effie was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.”

Hammer’s exit from the Walden Media project comes almost two weeks after it was reported that the actor was under police investigation after a woman alleged she was violently raped by him in 2017. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson had said at that time that Hammer was the main suspect in a sexual assault that was reported to police on February 3.

Hours before the investigation, a woman called Effie accused Hammer of rape in a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred. Prior to that the 34-year-old actor found himself embroiled in a massive controversy after a series of his Instagram direct messages were leaked online by an unverified account earlier this year.

  • ‘Abused me mentally and sexually’: Hollywood actor Armie Hammer faces rape allegations

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: A woman who claimed to be actor Armie Hammer’s former beau has accused the Hollywood actor of violent rape and physical abuse, during their on-and-off four-year relationship that ended in 2020.

During a virtual press conference with attorney Gloria Allred, a woman who identified herself as Effie said she was in a romantic relationship with Hammer, who was married to TV personality Elizabeth Chambers at the time.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Hammer is a suspect in a sexual assault case that was opened on February 3.

The girl who had not disclosed her full legal name publically has introduced herself as a 24-year-old woman who lives in Europe. While narrating the incident, she said: “On April 24, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter the girl also revealed that during the time of the alleged rape, the ‘Mine’ actor repeatedly slammed her head against a wall resulting in bruises to her face, and further committed other acts of violence against her, to which she did not consent.

The latter also added that the star hit her feet with a riding crop during the intercourse.

“During those four hours, I tried to get away but he wouldn’t let me. I thought he was going to kill me. Then [he] left with no concern for my well-being,” said Effie.

The woman explained that she met the 34-year-old star in 2016, over Facebook when she was 20 years old. She then continued to say that she fell in love with him instantly and they entered into an on-and-off relationship between 2016 to 2020.

“He abused me mentally, emotionally and sexually,” said Effie of the relationship.

On the other hand, Hammer denied the claims. His lawyer, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that “Effie’s own correspondence with Mr. Hammer undermines and refutes her outrageous allegations. As recently as July 18, 2020, [Effie] sent graphic texts to Mr Hammer telling him what she wanted him to do to her. Mr. Hammer responded making it clear that he did not want to maintain that type of relationship with her.”

The ‘Free Fire’ actor’s lawyer also made some text messages public that showed a conversation between Hammer and Effie, saying it is “one of the hundreds” Effie has sent to Hammer, in which the actor had texted, “I am not going to be able to engage in you in that specific way right now. It never ends well. We can talk and be friends, but I can’t do that.”

Ever since the screenshots claiming unverified messages between Hammer and multiple women started floating on the internet in January from the social media accounts of Effie, the actor’s legal team has maintained to clarify that all sexual relationships were “completely consensual.”

Effie’s lawyer Allred told The Hollywood Reporter that her client was “very upset”. “Even if a sexual partner agrees to certain sexual activity, she still has a right at any point to withdraw her consent. If she does withdraw her consent, he is legally and morally obligated to stop. If he does not stop, he is then at risk of committing a crime against her,” Allred said.

According to Allred, her client has been contacted by many others who allege that they have also been victimized by Hammer during their sexual relationships with him, to which Effie decided to speak out in order to warn women of Hammer’s alleged abuse.
