  • Bharat Biotech said – Covaxine expected to be available in first quarter of next year

    Covaxin, a vaccine for COVID-19, will be available in the first quarter of next year, said Suchitra Ella, joint managing director of Bharat Biotech on Wednesday.

    “With safety and efficacy data, Covaxin will be available in the first quarter of next year to the categories and the first responders according to the plan that govt of India is embarking upon for phased vaccination,” Ella told ANI.
    A team of foreign heads of missions in India had visited leading biotech companies in Hyderabad involved in COVID-19 vaccine development.

    The Indian arm of US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech have applied to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) seeking emergency use authorisation (EUA) for their COVID-19 vaccines.

    Meanwhile, Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has asked for more safety and efficacy data from Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech for their COVID-19 vaccines.

    According to government sources, an SEC meeting was held on Wednesday to review the application submitted by the pharma majors for emergency use authorisation (EUA) for their vaccine candidates.The application submitted by the Pfizer was not discussed at the SEC meeting as the company has requested for more time for giving its presentation, sources said.

  • Emergency use authorization of Covid-19 vaccine likely by Dec end: AIIMS director

    Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS Delhi, has said that in India, there are COVID-19 vaccines which are in their final trial stage.  Speaking to news agency ANI, he said that he is hopeful that by the end of this month or early next month, emergency use authorization from Indian regulatory authorities with be given to a vaccine, which can then be used to vaccinate the general public.

    Once booster dose is given, vaccine will give good amount of anti-body production & will start giving protection. This will last for many months giving protection for a significant time when numbers will be less. We need to see type of immunity vaccine gives: Dr Randeep Guleria

  • Rohit returned to Mumbai after IPL to attend to his ailing father: BCCI

    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 27 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday clarified the reason behind batsman Rohit Sharma not travelling to Australia with the rest of the squad after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
    India and Australia are slated to lock horns in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Test matches. Rohit was rested for the white-ball leg, but his participation in the Test series is not confirmed as he would be undergoing a further injury assessment on December 11.


    The BCCI has clarified that Rohit returned to India to attend to his ailing father. The board also clarified that the batsman went to National Cricket Academy (NCA) after ensuring that his father was okay.


    “Rohit is presently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Rohit Sharma’s next assessment will be conducted on December 11th following which the BCCI will have clarity on his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Rohit Sharma had to come back to Mumbai after the IPL to attend to his ailing father. His father is now recuperating well and that has allowed him to travel to the NCA and start his rehabilitation,” the BCCI stated in its official release.

  • India successfully tests BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, will increase Pak and China concern

    In the midst of ongoing tension with China on the border, India successfully test-fired a ground-breaking BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 10 am today. The missile hit its target directly during testing. Its target was on another island. In the same month, India conducted a successful test missile test of Quick Reaction Missile in Balasore.

    India is trying to increase its strength amidst ongoing tension along the border with China and Pakistan. India is continuously testing cruise and ballistic missiles. In which he is also getting success. More tests have been done within the last two to three months than earlier tests used in the whole year.

    This test has been done at a time when there are disputes over the LAC of India and China. According to an ANI report, after this trial, the missile is now ready to join the Indian Army. It was tested at 10 am today. The test was carried out by the Indian Army with a large number of regiments of missile systems made by DRDO. The hitting capability of this missile is now 400 km.

    The Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force also recently targeted its target in the Bay of Bengal with a BrahMos supersonic missile. For this operation, Sukhoi aircraft took off from Halwara airbase in Punjab. It is also known as the ruler of the Indian Ocean region due to the far reach of the Sukhoi aircraft. This squadron is also equipped with BrahMos cruise missile.

  • India, China agree on a three-step disengagement plan from Pangong Tso

    In a major development, the ongoing India-China border conflict may be resolved soon as the armies of the two countries have agreed for disengagement from parts of the Eastern Ladakh sector under which they would be moving back to their respective positions before April-May timeframe earlier this year.

    The disengagement plan was discussed between the two sides during the 8th Corps Commander-level talks which were held on November 6 in Chushul.

    As per the disengagement plan which is to be carried out in three steps in one week from the talks in the Pangong lake area, the armoured vehicles including tanks and armoured personnel carriers were to be moved back from their frontline deployment to a significant distance from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by both sides, sources told ANI.

    As per the discussions, the disengagement of tanks and armoured personnel carriers was to be carried out within one day. The talks were held on November 6 in which External Affairs Ministry’s Joint Secretary Naveen Shrivastava and Brigadier Ghai of Directorate General of Military Operations had taken part.

    In the second step to be carried out near the northern bank on the Pangong Lake, both sides were supposed to withdraw around 30 per cent of troops every day for three days. The Indian side would be coming close to its administrative Dhan Singh Thapa post while the Chinese had consented to go back to their position east of Finger 8.

    In the third and last step, the two sides were to withdraw from their respective positions from the frontline along the southern bank of Pangong Lake area which includes the heights and territories around Chushul and Rezang La area.

    In an interaction with the news agency ANI, BS Dhanoa had made full preparations for the attack on Pakistan’s Forward Brigade and the Indian military position was very aggressive during that time. He said, ‘I promised Abhinandan’s father that we will definitely bring Abhinandan back. What the Pakistani MP has said is because our stand was very aggressive during that time. They were aware of our military strength and were fully prepared to wipe out the advance brigades of Pakistan.  At the same time, Wing Commander Abhinandan Vardhaman of the Indian Air Force dropped Pakistan’s F-16 fighter aircraft while firing an R-73 missile from his MiG-21. But during this time his MiG-21 aircraft crashed and he fell into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He was taken into his custody by Pakistani security forces there. However, there was a lot of pressure on Pakistan, after which Abhinandan was returned to India from the Attari-Wagah border.

    PM SVANidhi Scheme was launched on June 1, 2020 for poor people selling goods on roads and tracks, who were affected due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    “Will interact with my brothers and sisters from Uttar Pradesh who sell goods on roads. It will be an opportunity to know how Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana gave new strength to them,” PM Modi tweeted on Monday.

    Under PM SVANidhi Scheme, street vendors can get working capital of up to Rs10,000 at subsidised rates. According to news agency ANI, over 24 lakh applications have been received under this scheme so far, with 557,000 applications from vendors in Uttar Pradesh, the highest across the country.

    As many as 3.27 lakh applications from UP have been approved and loan of 1.87 lakh has been disbursed, ANI said quoting the website narendramodi.in. Out of the total applications, 12 lakh have been approved and loans worth about 5.35 lakh have been disbursed, it added.

  • After Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan To Bring Bills Against Farm Laws: Bhupesh Baghel

    Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said that Congress governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan will bring farm bills similar to that brought by Punjab.

    He said Punjab assembly has passed bills to protect interests of farmers. “Our governments in Chhattisgarh and in Rajasthan are going to bring the bills,” Mr Baghel told ANI.

    He alleged that three agricultural laws enacted by the Centre were aimed at “benefiting capitalists and looting farmers.”

    He said market prices of agriculture produce will shoot up due to the Acts and an example was of onion which was selling at ₹ 40 per kg three months ago and its cost had nearly doubled.

    Punjab is the first state to reject the three farm laws which were enacted after passage of relevant bills in the monsoon session of parliament last month.

    The assembly passed three bills “unanimously” to “protect MSP and check hoarding of foodgrains”.

    The House also passed by voice vote an amendment to CrPC for exempting farmers from the attachment of land up to 2.5 acres.

    The assembly passed Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020, the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2020.

    Mr Baghel also said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will attend the virtual ceremony to mark the creation day of Chhattisgarh.

  • Chhattisgarh CM Writes To Chief Justice Menon To Set Up Fast Track Courts For Trial Of Sexual Offences

    Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court PR Ramchandra Menon, requesting him to notify the fast track courts in all the districts for speedy hearing and disposal of cases related to sexual offences.
    He has further provided all the necessary support from the state government’s side.
    “Sexual offences against women and children are a matter of grave concern in the country and need immediate attention. Despite the fact that adequate laws have been made on the above subject, still, these kind of heinous crimes are not decreasing in number. Additionally, getting delayed justice is also a matter of concern,” Chief Minister mentioned in the letter.
    In cases concerning sexual offences against women and children, there’s an urgent need for prompt consideration for the victims of sexual offences to get speedy justice, and the accused to be punished with extreme punishment in the state court and it is our responsibility to ensure that, added Baghel.
    He mentioned in his letter that the required number of fast track court, for hearing and disposal of cases related to sexual offences, be notified in all the districts of the state, in which the time period and time limit of hearing of such cases (which is prescribed to be done) in day to day. The state government has affirmed to provide all the necessary cooperation concerning this matter. (ANI)

  • Victim’s family leave for Lucknow, to appear in court today

    The 19-year-old had succumbed to her injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on September 29 after being assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on September 14.

    Hathras (Uttar Pradesh): Amid tight security, family members of the 19-year-old woman, who died after the alleged assault and gang-rape last month, left for Lucknow on Monday to appear before the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, which has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident.

    “I am going with them. Proper security arrangements have been made. District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) is also accompanying us,” Anjali Ganwar, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) told mediapersons.
    On Sunday, Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hathras said that a Deputy SP rank officer and an (SDM) rank magistrate will be present with the family during their journey to Lucknow. Adequate security arrangements have been made. Police is being deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. As per the directions of the High Court, the victim’s family will be presented before it on Monday. They will be taken to the High Court with full security. We have assured them that they can contact us whenever they want,” Jaiswal had told ANI.
