  • Angelina Jolie faces legal setback in battle with Brad Pitt | People News

Washington: In a significant development in the protracted legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, a Los Angeles Superior Court has ordered Jolie to turn over all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she has signed over the past eight years.

This decision is the latest twist in their ongoing dispute over the ownership of their USD 500 million French winery, Chateau Miraval, as confirmed by Page Six.

The court ruling mandates that the ‘Maleficent’ star must produce within the next month all non-privileged documents in her possession, custody, or control that respond to Pitt’s legal team’s requests.

A source close to Pitt described the ruling as a “crushing blow” to Jolie, who had previously argued that producing the NDAs would be “expensive,” “wasteful,” and “unreasonable,” as well as an “invasion of privacy” for third parties involved.

As per Page Six, the documents in question likely encompass NDAs related to Hollywood employers, brands, and personal staff, potentially containing sensitive information about Jolie’s compensation and contracts with third parties.

The court’s order also requires Jolie to provide a list of any documents she considers privileged, enabling Pitt’s team to evaluate her claims of privilege.

The Oscar-winning couple has been embroiled in a legal dispute that has extended beyond their divorce, particularly focusing on the Chateau Miraval winery.

Jolie’s legal team has accused Pitt of attempting to control her through an overreaching NDA, which she claimed was intended to cover Pitt’s personal misconduct unrelated to the winery.

This dispute reportedly hindered an agreement for Jolie to sell her stake in the winery to Pitt, leading her to sell her shares to a subsidiary of the Stoli Group instead.

Pitt has contested the sale to Stoli, alleging that Jolie acted unfairly in finalizing the deal without his consent.

According to Page Six, a source aligned with Pitt noted that this ruling represents another pre-trial victory for him.

However, Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, framed the decision differently, stating, “Common NDAs are simply not comparable to Mr. Pitt’s last-second demand to try and cover up his personal misconduct.”

He emphasized that the court’s acknowledgment of the NDAs’ potential relevance to the case is significant, hinting at the broader implications for Pitt’s conduct.

Murphy added, “We welcome that transparency in all parties’ discovery responses, including Mr. Pitt’s. Angelina looks forward to the eventual end of this litigation with its false narratives that continue to hurt the family and interfere with their ability to heal.”

According to Page Six, a source close to Jolie assured that the NDAs are unlikely to be exposed during the trial.

  • Angelina Jolie Accuses Brad Pitt Of Physical Abuse In Winery Dispute | world news

New Delhi: American Actress Angelina Jolie has alleged that Brad Pitt was abusive towards her before the 2016 plane incident, which ultimately contributed to the dissolution of their marriage. Jolie on Thursday filed a motion to the Los Angeles Superior Court in which she asserts that she tried to sell her stake in a couple’s French Winery, Miraval to Pitt, but negotiations faltered when Pitt insisted that she sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). which prohibited Joile from speaking (other than in court) about Pitt’s abuse of her and their children, according to the filing obtained by CNN.

The recent development originates after Pitt filed a lawsuit in 2022, in which he asserted that he and Jolie had an agreement not to sell their shares in the winery without each other’s consent. Jolie in her filing claimed that Pitt’s record of physical abuse began long before the family’s flight trip from France to Los Angeles in September 2016.

“At trial, Jolie will prove through testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence why Pitt was so concerned about his misconduct that he blew up his own deal to purchase Jolie’s interest in Miraval because she refused to agree to his new, expansive NDA, ” read the filing.

American Actress Jolie asserts that she initially consented to sign an NDA focused solely on refraining from disparaging Miraval’s wine business as part of the agreement to sell her share in the winery but later on, Pitt subsequently pushed for a more expansive NDA that would have prohibited Jolie from making any negative remarks about either party in public, except from the court.

“Mr. Pitt refused to purchase Ms. Jolie’s interest when she would not be silenced by her NDA. By refusing to buy her interest but then suing her, Mr Pitt put directly at issue why that NDA was so important to him and what he hoped it would bury: his abuse of Ms Jolie and their family,” Jolie’s attorney, stated to CNN.

In 2008, the ex-couple purchased the Miraval estate and winery in the south of France. The legal proceedings concerning the disagreement over the property are still ongoing.

In 2016 Jolie filed the divorce proceedings against Pitt and later in 2019 they were granted their divorce and considered legally single.

  • Angelina Jolie leaves role as UN refugee agency envoy

    By Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS: Angelina Jolie and the United Nations’ refugee agency are parting ways after more than two decades.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the US actor and the agency announced she was “moving on” from her role as the agency’s special envoy “to engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues.”

“I will continue to do everything in my power in the years to come to support refugees and other displaced people,” Jolie was quoted as saying in the statement, adding that she felt it was time “to work differently” by directly engaging with refugees and local organizations.

Jolie first started working with the UN refugee agency in 2001 and was appointed its special envoy in 2012. The release described the multi-hyphenate as “carrying out more than 60 field missions to bear witness to stories of suffering as well as hope and resilience.”

“After a long and successful time with UNHCR, I appreciate her desire to shift her engagement and support her decision,” UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi was quoted as saying. “I know the refugee cause will remain close to her heart, and I am certain she will bring the same passion and attention to a wider humanitarian portfolio.”

In an opinion piece published in The Guardian last month, Jolie alluded to frustration with the lack of global progress in ending sexual violence in conflict.

“We meet and discuss these horrors and agree that they should never be allowed to happen again. We promise to draw — and to hold — that line. But when it comes to hard choices about how to implement these promises, we run into the same problems time and again,” she wrote, specifically calling out U.N. Security Council members for “abusing their veto power.”

Jolie previously characterized the United Nations as “imperfect” during a 2017 speech in Geneva, but also defended the international body and said it needed to be supported.

She later pressed the United Nations to create a permanent and independent investigative body to amass and evaluate evidence in cases regarding alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and other human rights violations. While promoting that effort at UN headquarters in 2019, she told the AP that promoting equality for women, combatting injustice, and helping refugees were the most important parts of her life after her children.

“But in many ways, they go hand in hand,” she said. Jolie has been involved in other advocacy efforts, recently pushing for the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act in the US.

Jolie began visiting refugee camps in 2001 and was appointed as a UNHCR goodwill ambassador that same year. At the time, the then-high commissioner said he hoped the then-26-year-old actress could direct young people’s attention to the plight of refugees.

Last year, Jolie told The Associated Press in Burkina Faso that she was concerned that increasing displacement across the world would drive more instability — and that governments had to do something to address the conflicts at the root of the issue.

“Compared to when I began working with UNHCR 20 years ago, it seems like governments have largely given up on diplomacy … countries which have the least are doing the most to support the refugees,” she said.

Developing countries play host to more than 80 per cent of the world’s refugees, according to UNHCR, which also announced in May that the number of displaced people crossed 100 million for the first time. In August, Grandi praised the European Union’s efforts to aid Ukrainian refugees but implored world leaders to remember the other humanitarian crises for which his agency was fundraising.

  • Jolie details Brad Pitt abuse allegations in court filing

    By Associated Press

LOS ANGELES: A court filing Tuesday from Angelina Jolie alleges that on a 2016 flight, Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her then choked one of their children, and struck another when they tried to defend her.

The descriptions of abuse on the private flight came in a cross-complaint Jolie filed in the couple’s dispute over a French home and winery they co-owned that is separate from their ongoing divorce, which she sought soon after.

A representative for Pitt, who was not authorised to speak publicly, strongly denied Jolie’s allegations and called them “another rehash that only harms the family.”

The allegations of abuse on the plane first became public shortly after the flight, but reports were initially vague and details were kept sealed in divorce documents and investigations by the FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, both of which found that no action against Pitt was necessary.

A judge gave Pitt 50-50 custody of the children after a closed-door trial in which the allegations were aired.

But an appeals court subsequently disqualified the private judge for not disclosing possible conflicts of interest after a motion from Jolie, nullifying the decision.

More details of the allegations were revealed earlier this year when a Jolie lawsuit against the FBI over a Freedom of Information Act request was made public.

The New York Times first reported the court filing.

The filing says that on September 14, 2016, Jolie, Pitt and their six children were travelling from the winery, Chateau Miraval, to Los Angeles.

“Pitt’s aggressive behaviour started even before the family got to the airport, with Pitt having a confrontation with one of the children.

After the flight took off, Jolie approached Pitt and asked him what was wrong,” the filing says.

“Pitt accused her of being too deferential to the children and verbally attacked her.” Later, it says, “He pulled her into the bathroom and began yelling at her.

Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.”

One of the children, who were between 8 and 15 years old at the time, verbally defended Jolie, the countersuit says, and Pitt lashed out.

“Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, he threw himself back into the aeroplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the filing says.

“The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”

The document says he subsequently poured beer on Jolie and poured beer and red wine on the children.

Jolie gave an account of the flight to two FBI investigators in the days that followed. It appeared in a heavily redacted report later released by the agency.

It included a photo of a bruise on Jolie’s elbow and a “rug-burn type injury” on her hand.

In it, she said that she had seen Pitt have two to three drinks, but said he appeared articulate and not intoxicated.

The investigators met with federal prosecutors, and “It was agreed by all parties that the criminal charges, in this case, would not be pursued due to several factors,” the report says.

An FBI statement said it has “conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation.”

The 47-year-old Oscar-winning actor and director Jolie and the 58-year-old Oscar-winning actor Pitt were among Hollywood’s most prominent couples for 12 years.

They had been romantic partners for a decade when they married in 2014.

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and a judge declared them single in 2019, but the divorce case has not been finalised with custody and financial issues still in dispute.

  • Angelina Jolie visits Pakistan to support people affected by floods

    By ANI

DADU: Hollywood star Angelina Jolie on Tuesday arrived in Pakistan to support people affected by the devastating floods in the country.

According to the Express Tribune, the ‘Salt’ actor landed in Dadu, Pakistan, and will hear from people affected directly about their needs and about steps to prevent such suffering in the future.

“International humanitarian Angelina Jolie is visiting Pakistan to support communities affected by the devastating floods. Heavy rains and floods across the country have impacted 33 million people and submerged one-third of the country under water. Angelina Jolie is visiting to witness and gain an understanding of the situation, and to hear from people affected directly about their needs, and about steps to prevent such suffering in the future,” the report said, citing a release by International Rescue Committee (IRC).

“Jolie, who previously visited victims of the 2010 floods in Pakistan, and the 2005 earthquake, will visit the IRC’s (International Rescue Committee) emergency response operations and local organisations assisting displaced people including Afghan refugees. Jolie will highlight the need for urgent support for the Pakistani people and long-term solutions to address the multiplying crises of climate change, human displacement and protracted insecurity we are witnessing globally,” the IRC release added.

The monsoon rains have claimed more than a thousand lives across Pakistan since June and unleashed powerful floods that have washed away swathes of vital crops and damaged or destroyed more than a million homes.

According to the authorities, the death toll has reached 1,559, including 551 children and 318 women and viral diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, diarrhoea, and skin infections have wreaked havoc across provinces as the water starts to recede.

The record monsoons and heavy floods have affected 33 million people and are estimated to have caused USD 30 billion of damage.

  • Angelina Jolie’s former company sues Brad Pitt for USD 250 mn, says he stole ‘French’ winery

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s clash over French winery Chateau Miraval has turned downright nasty, with Jolie accusing her ex-husband of seizing the business and squandering its profits in retaliation for her breaking up their marriage.

According to Fox News, the lawsuit claims that the ‘Troy’ star secretly transferred assets to businesses owned by him and his cronies while secretly spending tens of millions of dollars of the winery’s earnings on vanity projects.

“Ever since his former wife, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce from him in 2016, Brad Pitt has been waging a vindictive war against her,” according to the countersuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of Jolie’s former company, Nouvel.

“Pitt has frozen Nouvel out of Chateau Miraval and treats it as his personal fiefdom,” the filing says.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the ex-couple are two of the wealthiest actors in the world, with Pitt reportedly worth $300 million and Jolie $120 million.

For 25 million euros, the ex-Hollywood power couple purchased Chateau Miraval in 2008.

They got married on the vast 1,800-acre estate with panoramic views of the vineyards and a private lake six years later.

Pitt and Jolie divorced in 2016, but their custody battle for their six children has dragged on ever since. Now, the two are at odds over ownership of the former family getaway, a 17th-century French chateau and vineyard in Correns.

In response to a lawsuit Pitt filed earlier this year, accusing the “Maleficent” actress of surreptitiously selling her 50 per cent ownership in the winery to an alleged Russian oligarch and spirits magnate, the actress has filed a counterclaim.

Pitt referred to the sale as “vindictive and unlawful,” alleging that it was done as a retaliation for a disfavorable custody decision Jolie obtained the previous year. He requested that the judge void the transaction and pay him damages.

Under Pitt’s leadership, the winery turned a profit and produced a rose that Wine Spectator ranked among the best 100 wines in the world.

But in her complaint, Jolie charges Pitt with orchestrating “a so far successful strategy to acquire control of Chateau Miraval,” which is jointly held by Nouvel and the actor’s financial firm Mondo Bongo.

The lawsuit claims that despite being Jolie’s greatest investment, she had little influence over the winery’s operations.

“Pitt wasted its assets, spending millions on vanity projects, including more than $1 million on swimming pool renovations,” according to the court papers.

The filing says that a staircase at the chateau was rebuilt four times at Pitt’s direction because he was unhappy with the first three attempts.

The extravagant expenditures that have no “business justification” and were made over Jolie’s objections have left the good winery barely breaking even. She was willing to sell her shares to her ex-husband, and they had neared a deal but “Pitt’s hubris got the better of him.”

He allegedly demanded “onerous and irrelevant terms” at the last minute, including a confidentiality agreement that would prevent her from discussing the dissolution of their marriage.

After Pitt rejected her final bid in October 2021, she sold Nouvel to the Stoli Group.

But Pitt has refused to work with the business or its founder, Yuri Shefler, branding their relationship “a major international liability” for the vineyard.

  • FBI unlikely to re-open Brad Pitt’s case after Angelina Jolie’s explosive report

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Brad Pitt’s friend has revealed that the FBI is not expected to reopen his investigation after an explosive report regarding the actor was revealed last week.

According to Page Six, the source stated that “the statute of limitations is way gone and they have seen all the information at hand. There is nothing new here. At the time they considered all of Angelina’s allegations and didn’t bring any charges.”

They added, “The FBI investigated the incident thoroughly, there is zero chance of them reopening the case. This is all a concerted effort to smear Brad.” Page Six has reported that an FBI spokesperson said they could not comment on the case.

Although Jolie recounted the same details from the FBI report in her ongoing custody case against Pitt, a judge still gave Pitt 50/50 custody of their kids, the ‘Fight Club’ actor’s friend pointed out.

Jolie claimed to FBI that Pitt, back in 2016, drunkenly pushed her on board a private jet, which left their six children extremely upset. The ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ actor referenced the star’s alleged actions on the plane to the judge overseeing their custody case, according to Pitt’s friend.

They said, “Angelina’s claims were raised in at least two different legal contexts: the incident on the plane and then again during a lengthy custody trial. In one case, there were no charges brought and in another, Brad was granted 50/50 custody.”

As per Page Six, the high-profile duo has been at war over their six children for the past six years, ever since Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016. Although they’re officially divorced, they are still embroiled in a custody dispute over their minor children: Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.

They also have sons Maddox and Pax, who are 21 and 18, respectively.
