Andhra Pradesh Police have detained Bihar Fire Services IG M. Sunil Kumar Nayak in Patna over allegations of custodial torture dating back to 2021. Booked under IPC 307, the case…

Andhra Pradesh Police have detained Bihar Fire Services IG M. Sunil Kumar Nayak in Patna over allegations of custodial torture dating back to 2021. Booked under IPC 307, the case links to former Narsapuram MP K. Raghurama Krishna Raju, who claims severe beating during arrest by Nayak-led CID team.

A 2005 Bihar cadre IPS from Guntur, Nayak was on deputation to Andhra CID as DIG from 2019-2022. During this period, his team’s arrest of Raju in a criminal case triggered complaints of police brutality, resulting in court-mandated charges against him. With bail revoked, AP cops tracked him to his current post in Bihar’s firefighting wing.

Nayak’s career trajectory saw early SP roles across Bihar districts post-training. His three-year Andhra stint involved supervising sensitive probes amid political heat. Repatriated to home cadre in 2023, he directed fire services upgrades, including equipment overhauls and training protocols until this dramatic arrest.

Authorities plan court appearance in Patna for transit remand, paving way to Prakasham jurisdiction. Raju, elevated to Deputy Speaker, keeps the spotlight on unresolved grievances from YSRCP-era enforcement.

This episode revives debates on custodial treatment in political cases and inter-cadre transfers’ risks. Nayak’s removal from fire duties could disrupt Bihar’s safety initiatives, while the judiciary weighs evidence in this attempt-to-murder claim rooted in contested 2021 custody.

The Supreme Court didn’t mince words on Friday, blasting the Andhra Pradesh police for their alleged nexus with political authorities in the ongoing murder investigation against YSRCP MLC Anant Uday…

The Supreme Court didn’t mince words on Friday, blasting the Andhra Pradesh police for their alleged nexus with political authorities in the ongoing murder investigation against YSRCP MLC Anant Uday Bhasakar. A bench comprising CJI Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice Vipul Pancholi pulled no punches, calling out the blatant favoritism.

Investigators were accused of maneuvering to secure bail for Bhasakar under CrPC provisions, a move thwarted only by the High Court. The court decried this as ‘police and power’s clear collusion,’ with the MLC enjoying interim bail for over two years amid stalled progress.

Balancing individual freedoms with justice delivery, the justices criticized the probe’s lethargy or intentional sabotage in a grave offense. To expedite matters, they urged the Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice to hand over the case to a seasoned judge.

Deadlines were non-negotiable: frame charges before April 18, 2026; complete evidence scrutiny soon after; finalize any additional inquiry by March 31, 2026; and conclude the trial by November 30, 2026. The trial court must operate without interruptions, with the judge dedicated solely to this high-stakes proceeding.

This firm stance from the apex court signals zero tolerance for interference, aiming to restore faith in the judicial process amid whispers of political meddling.

Seattle has reached a massive $29 million settlement with the grieving family of Jaahnavi Kandula, the Indian graduate student whose life was cut short by a police car hurtling at excessive speed. This development follows closely on the heels of her father’s sudden death, leaving the Kandula family in profound sorrow.

The 23-year-old from Andhra Pradesh was pursuing advanced studies in information systems when Officer Kevin Dave collided with her at over 74 mph in a school zone on January 23, 2023. Despite sirens blaring, the impact was catastrophic, flinging her body airborne for about 100 feet, as evidenced by dashcam recordings.

Public fury erupted over a police bodycam clip where an officer mocked the incident, laughing crudely about ‘giving CPR to her head.’ This insensitivity fueled diplomatic tensions, with Indian officials urging full accountability.

Adding to the heartbreak, head constable Srikant Kandula passed away from cardiac arrest on February 10 in Guntakal, where he served. His last rites were performed in Adoni two days later.

Announced on February 12, the settlement ends the family’s 2024 civil suit seeking $110 million. ‘Jaahnavi’s death was heartbreaking. We hope this brings the Kandula family some measure of relief,’ said City Attorney Erika Evans. She stressed that Jaahnavi’s life held immense value to all who knew her.

Reeling from dual losses, the family discovered the compensation news online and recently received an invitation from a U.S. official for a March visit.

Giridih police have successfully reunited 313 individuals with their stolen or lost mobile phones through the ‘Your Mobile, Your Hand’ initiative. The program, spearheaded by SP Dr. Vimal Kumar, saw owners from across the district arrive to claim their devices. The return of these valuable communication tools brought immense joy and relief to the recipients, who expressed their gratitude to the SP.
