  • Three militants killed during encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

    Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Kwarigam, Ranipora area of the South Kashmir district following inputs about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

    While the forces were conducting searches in the area the militants fired upon them.

    The forces retaliated leading to an exchange of fire in which three militants were killed, the official said.

    One of the slain militants has been identified as Arif Hazam belonging to the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit, he said, adding Hazam was involved in the killing of Territorial Armyman Havaldar Manzoor Beigh in June 2019.

  • Two civilians killed as militants open fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: Two civilians were killed in firing by militants on Saturday in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

    A police official said the two sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

    The militants opened fire at the two civilians at Jablipora in Bijbehara area of the district, he said.

    The injured were identified as Sanjeed Ah Parray (19) and Shan Bhat (35), the official said, adding that they succumbed to injuries later.

  • Three Lashkar militants killed in gunfight with security forces in Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: Three local militants of that Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in an encounter with security forces at Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday.

    A police spokesman said a joint contingent of police, CRPF and army laid siege around Sheikhpora village in Vailoo area of Kokernag in Anantnag district in the early hours after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.

    “After plugging off all possible escape routes, troops zeroed-in on a residential house where the  militants were hiding. They were given an opportunity to surrender. However, they turned down the offer and fired on troops,” he said.

    The spokesman said after ensuring all civilians are safe, troops retaliated and all the three holed-up militants were killed in the ensuing encounter.

    The deceased militants were identified as Ilyas Ahmad Dar alias Sameer R/o Kokernag, Ubaid Shafi alias Abdullah R/o Srinagar and Aqib Ahmad Lone alias Sahil R/o Kulgam.

    “An AK-47 rifle, two pistols and incriminating material were recovered from the site of encounter,” the police spokesman said.

    He said one of the slain militants Ubaid Shafi was part of a militant group that carried out an attack in Nowgam area of Srinagar on April 1 in which a policeman was killed.

    The spokesman said the last rites of the slain militants shall be performed after conducting medico-legal formalities and their nearest family members shall be allowed to participate.

    After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, police are not handing over bodies of local militants killed in gunfights with security forces and quietly buries them in graveyards in north and central Kashmir.

  • Encounter underway between security forces, militants in Jammu & Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: Security forces are engaged in exchange of fire with militants in Shopian and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir as two separate encounters broke out Saturday, police said. In the south Kashmir district of Shopian, police said that security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Hadipora area based on specific information about the presence of militants.

    The official said that as the forces conducted the searches, militants fired upon them, ensuing an encounter. The official added that the exchange of fire is underway and further details are awaited. Meanwhile, another gunfight erupted in Anantnag district, the official said.

    The gunfight broke out at Semthan in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on an intelligence input about the presence of militants, the official said.

    He said further details were awaited.

  • Two civilians injured in grenade attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: Two civilians were injured after militants hurled a grenade at a CRPF party in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said.

    The incident took place at Sangam in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district, a police official said.

    The grenade exploded on the roadside, causing minor injuries to the two civilians, he said.

    Security forces have launched a hunt to nab the militants, the official said.

  • Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces on Wednesday in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said here.

    Security personnel launched a cordon and search operation at Kandipora in Bijbehara area of Anantnag following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

    He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated.

    There are no reports of any casualties so far on either side, the official said.

  • Militant hideout unearthed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag

    SRINAGAR: Security forces on Sunday busted a militant hideout and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

    The cache was recovered after the arrest of the conspirator of the attack on a popular restaurant owner’s son in the city here, a police official said.

    “A hideout was busted in forest area of Anantnag by police and security forces after the arrest of conspirator of Krishna Dhaba attack,” the official said.

    He said arms and ammunition, including three AK 56 rifles, two Chinese pistols, two grenades, telescope, AK and pistol magazines, and other incriminating material were recovered from the hideout.

    Police on Friday arrested three persons involved in the Wednesday’s attack on the son of the owner of the popular eatery Krishna Dhaba in Durganag area of the city here.
