  • Amit Shah launches web portal for registrations of units for industrial development in J-K

    By ANI

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the web portal for registration of units for industrial development in Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh were also present at the inauguration of the web portal for registrations of units under the ‘New Central Sector Scheme 2021’ for Jammu and Kashmir via video conferencing.

Earlier on August 4, Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Som Parkash, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, informed that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade notified “New Central Sector Scheme for industrial development of Jammu and Kashmir” with financial outlay of Rs 28,400 crore on February 19, 2021 and is effective from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2037.

The scheme is applicable for any eligible industrial (manufacturing) entity or eligible service sector enterprise other than those run departmentally by Government, which is registered business enterprise under Goods and Service Tax, he stated.

The minister said that the scheme offers four incentives namely Capital Investment Incentive, Capital Interest subvention, Goods and Service Tax Linked Incentive (GSTLI) and Working Capital Interest Subvention.

“The scheme will help in creation of more employment opportunities and promotion of tourism in the region. The estimated direct employment generation is anticipated to be nearly 78,000 persons, however, the scheme has potential to trigger much more gainful employment indirectly and also, has potential to further promote tourism activities in Jammu and Kashmir,” Parkash had stated.

  • Amit Shah asks elected leaders of Gujarat local bodies to ensure proper reach of welfare schemes

    By PTI

AHMEDABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged sarpanchs and other elected representatives of local bodies to ensure that no eligible person in their areas is deprived of benefits under various welfare schemes of the Central and state governments.

Shah, who represents the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, is currently on a three-day visit to his home state Gujarat which began on August 28.

Speaking at an event for distribution of nutritious laddoos to pregnant women at Nidhrad village near Sanand town in the Ahmedabad district which falls under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Shah said though infrastructure development is important, it will be of no use if people remain weak and poor.

“There are numerous welfare schemes floated by the state and Central governments. The local administration is trying to reach out to people. But, it is the responsibility of elected representatives, such as sarpanchs and members of district and taluka panchayats, to make sure that no eligible person is left out from getting the benefits under these schemes,” said Shah.

He said workers from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat are visiting various villages to reach out to people by organising camps. “But, how much area can they cover by themselves? If sarpanchs of this region take up this responsibility that no eligible person remains without an Ayushman card or no widow is left out without pension, Gandhinagar would become the most developed Lok Sabha constituency in the country,” said Shah.

“Infrastructure development is important and that process will also continue. But, empowerment of the poor, downtrodden and women is equally important. There is no meaning to infrastructure development if the people remain poor and weak” he added.

With the help of NGOs, Shah launched a scheme for the Gandhinagar constituency wherein around 7,000 poor pregnant women will be given 15 vitamin-rich laddoos every month till they deliver.

Shah said that these laddoos will help fight malnutrition among children and their mothers. “This scheme has been launched without taking any financial help from the government. I thank all the NGOs who have joined hands for launching this scheme. These protein and vitamin-rich laddoos will be given to pregnant women free of cost,” said Shah.

He said the “Poshan Abhiyan” launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2018 from Rajasthan has become a mass movement now. Shah greeted people on the occasion of Janmashtami and also congratulated Indian athletes who have won medals, including one gold medal, at the Tokyo Paralympics.

BAREILLY: Uttar Pradesh minister Baldev Singh Aulakh has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging him to resettle Hindus and Sikhs displaced from Afghanistan in Rampur district of the state.

“Hindu and Sikh families displaced from Afghanistan are being brought to India by the government. I sincerely request you to settle them in Rampur… there will be no inconvenience,” Minister of State for Jal Shakti Aulakh said in his letter to Shah on Wednesday.

“The residents of Bilaspur are ready to give land in Tehsil Bilaspur in Rampur district. Agricultural land will also be made available for the displaced Hindu and Sikh families,” the minister, who is an MLA from Bilaspur, said.

Hindus and Sikhs settled in Afghanistan have fled the country after its takeover by the Taliban.

India had on August 17 announced that it will issue an emergency e-visa to Afghan nationals who want to come to the country in view of the prevailing situation in Afghanistan.

All Afghans, irrespective of their religion, can apply for the ‘e-Emergency X-Misc Visa’ online and the applications will be processed in New Delhi.

  • Coming generations will be grateful to Kalyan Singh for contributions to India’s cultural regeneration: PM Modi, Amit Shah

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Expressing deep pain at the death of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that coming generations will remain forever grateful to him for his contributions towards India’s “cultural regeneration”.

Modi said he was saddened beyond words at his demise.

Singh was firmly rooted in Indian values and took pride in its centuries-old traditions, he said and lauded him as a “statesman, veteran administrator, grassroots level leader and great human”.

He leaves behind an indelible contribution towards the development of Uttar Pradesh, the prime minister said.

Modi spoke to Singh’s son Rajveer Singh, a Lok Sabha MP of the BJP, to convey his condolences.

“Kalyan Singh Ji gave voice to crores of people belonging to the marginalised sections of society. He made numerous efforts towards the empowerment of farmers, youngsters and women,” he said.

Singh (89), who had been ailing for some time, breathed his last on Saturday night, the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow said.

Singh was closely associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

The Babri mosque in Ayodhya was demolished when he was the state’s chief minister in 1992.

The Supreme Court had in 2019 handed over the disputed site to Hindu bodies, paving the way for the beginning of the construction of Ram temple there.

A backward caste leader, Singh was instrumental in the rise of the BJP to power in Uttar Pradesh in 1990s.

In a series of tweets in Hindi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said it was rare to find a great personality like Singh — a staunch nationalist who lived in the hearts of the people.

The home minister said Singh, as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had delivered good governance with his devotion and political skills and ran a public welfare government free from fear and crime which was an excellent role model for the governments to come for its unprecedented reforms in the field of education.

“I bow down to such a great and ideal life dedicated to the nation, religion and people. The country and the entire BJP family is mourning his death,” he said.

Shah said Singh, through his diligence, while holding various constitutional posts, made his unique contribution to the progress of the country by connecting the farmers, poor and deprived sections with the mainstream of development.

“With the death of Kalyan Singh ji, the country has lost a true patriot, honest and devout politician today.

Babuji was such a huge tree, under whose shadow the organisation of BJP flourished and expanded.

As a true worshiper of cultural nationalism, he served the country and the people throughout his life,” he said.

The home minister said the country and the generations to come will always be indebted to Singh for his immense contribution.

“May God give him a place at his feet,” he said.

Singh (89), who had been ailing for some time, breathed his last on Saturday night at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow.

Describing Kalyan Singh as a stalwart of Indian politics, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said with his demise, he has has lost his elder brother and a companion.

“Kalyan Singh’s death is a great loss for Indian politics and a very sad moment for me,” he said in a series of tweets.

Rajnath Singh, who had succeeded Kalyan Singh as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, said the latter was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and played an important role in the Ram temple movement.

“Pained by the demise of former Chief Minister of UP, Shri Kalyan Singh. He was a nationalist and an exemplary leader who was deeply committed to serving people. My thoughts are with his bereaved family and followers,” the Vice President Secretariat tweeted, quoting Venkaiah Naidu.

“Kalyan Singh ji had a magical connect with masses. As chief minister of UP, he determinedly pursued clean politics and purged governance of criminals and corruption,” President Ram Nath Kovind said in a message on Twitter.

“He dignified the offices he held. His demise leaves a vacuum in public life. My heartfelt condolences,” Kovind said.

  • 2022 UP polls: BJP starts survey with Nishad party to finalise seat sharing

    Express News Service

LUCKNOW: With the 2022 UP assembly polls in sight, the BJP and allies have started the preparatory process for seat sharing. In this connection, the saffron brigade has roped in Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad) party to conduct a survey in various districts of eastern and central Uttar Pradesh.

The motive of commencing the exercise with the Nishad party is to identify the seats on which Nishad party nominees will be in a winnable position.

According to Nishad party sources, the survey report would be submitted to BJP national president JP Nadda to finalise the seat-sharing formula for the election.

Recently, Sanjay Nishad had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi and had discussed with them a series of issues including seat-sharing in 2022.

It was followed by a high-level meeting at the residence of Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday. BJP national president JP Nadda, UPCM Yogi Adityanath, BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, BJP state unit president Swatantra Dev Singh and the party’s state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal were present at the meeting to discuss the strategy for the assembly election, the nomination of four MLCs and also the expansion of Yogi cabinet.

As per the claims of the Nishad party, it has sway over around 160 assembly constituencies in eastern and central UP. The party had constituted committees in 70 constituencies for the election, said a senior Nishad party leader.

After the meeting, Sanjay Nishad had said that he had told the BJP leaders that the Nishad party would field candidates in the assembly election. “It was decided that the party will field candidates on the seats where it is in a strong position,” said Nishad.

The entry of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) led by Bihar animal husbandry minister Mukesh Sahani, Jaalvanshi Morcha led by Gyanendra Nishad, Eklavya Sena run by Umed Singh, husband of bandit-turned politician Phoolan Devi, in the political landscape of UP and trying their luck at the husting as well as the advances of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to the Nishad party were believed to be a part of the discussion at the Thursday meeting.

However, the Nishad party claims that a majority of the fringe organisations have no cadre, unlike the Nishad party which has a strong organisational set up in the districts of eastern UP.

To counter the SP and the BSP, the Nishad party urged the BJP leaders and chief minister Yogi Adityanath to include the Nishad, Majhwar, Kewat, and Mallah communities in the list of scheduled castes and give them reservations in government jobs accordingly, the Nishad Party leader added.

The party also reportedly kept forward its demands of fishermen getting back their rights on ponds, lakes, and rivers across the state that were withdrawn during the BSP rule, and withdrawal of the cases lodged against the Nishad community members during agitations.

India has brought back the Indian ambassador and all staff members from its embassy in Kabul in two military transport aircraft in the wake of escalating tension and deteriorating security situation in the Afghan capital after its takeover by the Taliban.

In a tweet, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the movement from Kabul to India was a “difficult and complicated” exercise and thanked all those whose cooperation and facilitation made it possible.

“In view of the prevailing situation in Kabul, it was decided that our Embassy personnel would be immediately moved to India. This movement has been completed in two phases and the Ambassador and all other India-based personnel have reached New Delhi this afternoon,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The statement by the MEA came soon after a military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force brought back from Kabul around 150 people including Indian diplomats, officials, security personnel and some stranded Indians.

Another flight evacuated around 40 staffers from Kabul on Monday.

The MEA said the immediate priority for the government is to obtain accurate information about all Indian nationals currently staying in Afghanistan.

It also requested the Indians as well as their employers to urgently share the relevant details with MEA’s Special Afghanistan Cell that has been set up to coordinate evacuation.

“The main challenge for travel to and from Afghanistan is the operational status of Kabul airport. This has been discussed at high levels with our partners, including by the External Affairs Minister with the US Secretary of State,” the MEA said.

“Government of India is committed to the safe return of all Indian nationals and will institute flight arrangements once Kabul airport is open for commercial operations,” it said.

A contingent of 99 ITBP commandos along with three sniffer dogs landed at the Hindon IAF base on Tuesday onboard a military evacuation flight from Taliban-captured Afghanistan, officials said.

The commandos also brought back their personal weapons and belongings and will now undergo a week-long COVID-19 quarantine at a Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) facility in Delhi, they said.

“With this, our complete contingent deployed for securing the Embassy in Kabul, its four consulates in Afghanistan and diplomats have returned. The commandos came along with the Embassy staffers along with other Indian nationals,” ITBP spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey said.

The commandos were taken away in brown-coloured ITBP buses from the Hindon airbase to the quarantine facility.

It later sent its additional detachments to similarly guard Indian consulates located in Jalalabad, Kandhar, Mazar-e-Sharif and Herat.

The detachments from the consulates have already been withdrawn after they were shut recently due to the current crisis in the country and also due to negligible footfall as the coronavirus pandemic gripped the globe.

The ITBP also was deployed to secure the Delaram-Zaranj road project that was executed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) between 2005-08.

A number of ITBP commandos were also killed in various terrorist attacks that took place during these duties and many of them were decorated with gallantry medals.

  • Maharashtra Governor meets Amit Shah in Delhi soon after HC ruling on MLC nominations

    By PTI

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, hours after the Bombay High Court ruled that the state governor was duty-bound to decide on the MLC nominations within “reasonable time”.

The Raj Bhavan, however, termed the meeting that took place on Friday evening as a “courtesy call”.

The delay by Koshyari in taking a decision on the proposal sent by the Maharashtra cabinet to nominate 12 persons as Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) from his quota has become a major bone of contention between him and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress in the state.

The Bombay High Court, while hearing a petition filed by a Nashik resident seeking a direction to the governor to decide on the nominations, had said on Friday that the governor has a “constitutional obligation” to either accept or reject “within reasonable time” the proposal sent by the state cabinet to nominate 12 persons as MLCs.

Eight months had passed since the state cabinet sent the list of persons for nomination to the Upper House to governor Koshyari and this was “reasonable time”, a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni had said.

The cabinet headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had recommended 12 names to be nominated to the council from the governor’s quota in November 2020.

The term of the legislators from the his quota had ended in June last year.

The government had argued that the governor should have accepted its proposal on nominations and he cannot keep his decision pending.

    By PTI

SHIMLA: A landslide blocked the flow of the Chandrabhaga river in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti on Friday morning, leading to the flooding of some homes and fields in two villages, an official said.

Residents of some villages downstream were also evacuated as a precautionary measure, State Disaster Management Director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said.

Four houses of Tarang and Jasrat villages were affected due to the flooded water after the blockage of the Chandrabhaga river, he said.

Mokhta stated that the two villages were hit due to the flooded water, and four houses of Sukh Chand, Devi Chand, Ramesh Lal and Prem Lal got affected.

The Chandrabhaga river was blocked near Jahalman village between Nalada and Jasarat in Udaipur subdivision, Udaipur resident Bir Bahadur Singh said.

Five cowsheds, a sheep and a calf were also washed away, and a 30 bigha agricultural land got flooded, Mokhta added.

The soil study team has reached the incident site to inspect the area, he said.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been requested to be on standby mode at Kullu, Mokhta added.

However, later he said that Chandrabagha water flow started over the landslide blockade after some time.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said in the state assembly that he spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the Chandrabhaga blockage triggered by landslide and Shah assured him of every possible help, he added.

Meanwhile, a high-level team under the leadership of Tribal Development Minister Ram Lal Markanda, consisting of Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh and Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu, reviewed the blockage of the Chandrabhaga river at Nalada village, caused due to massive landslides, Thakur was later quoted as saying in a statement.

The chief minister said that on receiving the information of the incident, the team was immediately sent to take stock of the situation.

He said there was a gradual improvement in the flow of the river.
