  • Alessandro Nivola to play villain in ‘Kraven the Hunter

    Actor Alessandro Nivola has been cast as a villain in the upcoming Marvel film Kraven the Hunter. Nivola joins a previously announced slate of actors including, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who will play the titular character), Fred Hechinger (Chameleon), Ariana DeBose (Calypso), and Russell Crowe. Details about Nivola’s role is currently kept under wraps.

    Written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, the film is set to be directed by JC Chandor. Kraven is best known as one of Spider-Man’s most popular nemeses. Created by Spider-Man co-creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character made his comic debut in 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man No. 15. Over his long tenure in the comics, Kraven is best known for the classic 1980s storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt, in which the villain succeeds in defeating Spider-Man, burying him alive, and assuming his identity.

    Kraven the Hunter is set for a release on January 13, 2023. The film is produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Kraven the Hunter is one of the many projects in development at Sony for its Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. The studio has released Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and has the Jared Leto-starrer Morbius set to release in April. The studio is also developing a Madame Web movie with Dakota Johnson attached to star.

    Meanwhile, Nivola is best known for starring in titles such as Face/Off, Jurassic Park III, and Selma. He recently played Dickie Moltisanti in The Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark. 

  • Alison Brie, Alessandro Nivola and Aubrey Plaza to lead indie comedy ‘Spin Me Round’

    LOS ANGLES: Actors Alison Brie, Alessandro Nivola and Aubrey Plaza are part of an ensemble cast for upcoming independent comedy “Spin Me Round”.

    Brie has penned the script along with Jeff Baena, who will be directing the movie, reported Deadline.

    Popular actor-comedians Molly Shannon and Lil Rel Howery are also going to feature in pivotal roles.

    Tim Heidecker, Ben Sinclair, Fred Armisen, Ayden Mayeri, Debby Ryan, Zach Woods, Ego Nwodim, Lauren Weedman, and Jake Picking round out the cast.

    The story follows Amber (Brie), the manager of the Bakersfield, California franchise of the Italian eatery chain Tuscan Grove.

    “She wins an all-expenses trip to the company’s gorgeous ‘institute’ outside of Florence, Italy, and the chance to meet the restaurant chain’s wealthy and charismatic owner (Nivola).

    “Along with a mismatched group of local American franchise managers, Amber finds a far different adventure than the romantic fantasy she had imagined,” read the official plotline.

    “Spin Me Round” will be produced by Duplass Brothers Productions in collaboration with Limelight Pictures.

    The movie will start filming in June in Italy.

  • Warner Bros pushes back ‘Many Saints of Newark’ to September 2021

    LOS ANGELES: Warner Bros has announced that “The Many Saints of Newark”, the prequel film to hit HBO series “The Sopranos”, has been delayed by six months. The film, which was set to release in March this year both theatrically and on HBO Max, will now open on September 24, reported Deadline.

    “The Many Saints of Newark” has been directed by Alan Taylor from a script by show creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner.

    Set against the backdrop of the Newark riots of the 1960s when African-Americans and Italians clashed, the film will feature an ensemble cast of Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen, Corey Stoll, and Ray Liotta.

    Michael Gandolfini, the son of late “The Sopranos” star James Gandolfini, is playing the younger version of his father’s famous character Tony Soprano in the film. Chase and Konner have produced the movie in collaboration with Nicole Lambert.

    “The Sopranos”, headlined by James Gandolfini, was HBO’s one of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time. It ran for six seasons from 1999 to 2007 and won 21 Emmys.
