  • Akhilesh counters Adityanath’s jibe on red caps, says colour reflects emotions

    By PTI
MIRZAPUR: After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a dig at opposition parties over the colourful caps their MLAs wear in the Assembly, it was Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s turn Friday to hit back.

“It seems the CM had eaten some red chillies in his childhood, that’s why he is scared of the Samajwadis’ red cap,” Yadav told reporters here.

“Red is the colour of emotions. Our grief and happiness are reflected on our faces by this colour. It shows our blood,” he said.

Indirectly, he mocked the RSS for the colour of the caps worn by its volunteers.

“We can also say that those who have black hearts wear black caps,” he said.

Referring to the chief minister’s remarks made in the state legislature earlier, Yadav further said, “Thok denge’ (will shoot you) and ‘patak ke marenge’ (will beat u) cannot be spoken in the House, which is a temple of democracy.”

Taking a dig at the Opposition in the Assembly on Wednesday, Adityanath had said the House should not be taken lightly as a “drama company” with some members sporting caps in red, some blue, some yellow or even green.

“It would have looked nice if you had used a turban or a ‘safa’,” he said smilingly, reaching out to Leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary sitting on the opposite side with his Samajwadi Party’s bright red cap on.

In an obvious reference to the SP members who wear red caps, Adityanath recalled that he had once been to village school when a child called a politician sporting a cap as “goonda” (hooligan).

“There, an “anna prashan” (a ceremony where a child takes cereals for the first time) function was also organised. At that function, some people belonging to a certain political party rushed in to lodge protest. They were donning caps.

A toddler, who was there with his mother for the ceremony, was surprised to see them and screamed, “Mummy, mummy . look goonda, goonda.” the CM said.

  • When smart cities will be built, rivers cleaned, Akhilesh Yadav asks BJP

    By ANI
VARANASI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said that BJP should give an answer to the people regarding when will smart cities be built and rivers cleaned.

Speaking to the media, Akhilesh Yadav said, “People of UP gave the majority to BJP so that they could work on their ‘Sankalp Patra’ (resolution) after coming to power. However, when it came to power, the BJP forgot about the Sankalp Patra promised to the public.”

“BJP should give an answer to the people when will smart cities be built. They took the oath of ‘Maa Ganga’ to clean the river, but why is it still not clean. They had taken the ‘Sankalp’ of cleaning all the rivers in the country, but it is not happening,” Yadav said.

He further said, “The government is saying that it has to accumulate Rs 2.5 lakh crore. The way prices of petrol and diesel have increased, Rs 2.5 lakh crore must have been accumulated by the government a long time ago. Moreover, if things are sold to private enterprises then what will happen to the rights guaranteed by the Constitution (like jobs and reservation).”

“The BJP deliberately does not talk about the economy, jobs, inflation. Every section of the society is affected by inflation,” the SP chief added.

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Taking a jibe at the BJP over the price rise, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said what did not take place in 70 years, the ruling party did that in one year.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh Yadav said, “In the tenure of the BJP government, prices of petrol and diesel have soared so much that people living in the border areas of Gorakhpur– the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath– are forced to go to Nepal to get fuel.”

“Why the BJP is igniting the fire of inflation, after taking votes from the people in the name of reducing it,” he asked, adding that what did not happen in 70 years, the BJP government did that in one year.

Those who are doing “taandav” of destruction in the name of development have thrown the public into the fire of inflation, unemployment and corruption, he said, adding that the public has made up its mind to give a permanent holiday to the BJP.

  • BJP raising funds for Ram temple by capitalising on Covid pandemic: Akhilesh

    Express News Service
LUCKNOW: Firing a fresh salvo at the ruling BJP, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused it of capitalising on pandemic to raise funds for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

“The BJP government itself has been saying that it creates opportunities out of the calamity. And thus, it is collecting chanda (contributions) in this time of calamity (Covid-19 pandemic),” he said at a press conference.

Notably, SP president had taunted the BJP in Parliament recently by calling the party ‘Chandajivi’ (living on donations). Akhilesh reiterated on Saturday that in ancient Indian culture, there was no such thing as Chanda. “We have the culture of Dakshina (offering). We are ready to give Dakshina, if the BJP accepts it,” he said.

Claiming that the days of BJP government in the state were numbered, the SP chief continued to attack CM Yogi Adityanath by accusing him of lying even on the floor of Assembly. “The way CM is lying in the assembly… Those who lie in the legislature, who would punish them? People will punish them,” Akhilesh said while referring to the payment of minimum support price (MSP) to farmers for their crops.

“CM lied in the assembly that MSP was given to farmers. Everyone knows that farmers did not get MSP for maize, or even rice. He (CM Yogi) charged the SP government with selling off the sugar mills, if he is really a Yogi then he should tell which sugar mill was sold out during the SP regime,” said Akhilesh.

He accused the Yogi government of doing no work during the last four year which they could show to the people before going into the 2022 polls. “This government continues to hijack SP government’s work to show it as its own,” he maintained. “This is because the CM is not from UP. He came from another state.

Had he belonged to UP he would have worked for the state,” said the SP chief.

“The way people are joining Samajwadi Party in droves; the BJP will be swept out and the people will ‘deploy’ SP in the 2022 UP Assembly polls to rescue the state,” claimed the SP chief.

Launching an attack on Centre on increasing fuel price, Akhilesh said: “To hide its failure on the economic front, the BJP government hikes petrol and diesel prices and puts the burden on farmers and the youth. And it is sad and shameful that now the government is saying the price hike was for nation-building.”

  • ‘Free hand’ to police responsible for poor law & order in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

    By PTI

In an apparent reference to the two girls who were found dead in a field in Unnao, Yadav asked, “Who is responsible for it.”

“When the government gives free hand to police, this is bound to happen. In the state where daughters are not safe, mothers are not safe who will invest there. Cases are being reported continuously from Badaun, Hathras and Unnao. A victim woman was cremated in the night in Hathras,” he said.

He also claimed that a large number of custodial deaths and fake encounters have taken place in the state. “Ever since this government came to power, fake encounters have started taking place,” he said.

The SP chief said that the UP government has been continuously making claims on investments but these are not visible on the ground.

“This is the first government which is inaugurating the already inaugurated projects, laying the foundation stones of projects where it was already done and signing MoUs which had already been signed. The government is not telling what new works have been done by them,” Akhilesh said.

Alleging that farming is being ruined, he said, “Though the BJP has been continuously saying that the new farm laws will benefit farmers but farmers of the entire country want them repealed as they are not beneficial for them.”

“The BJP has been continuously saying that they will give MSP to farmers and double their income. And now when it is time to do so, they have brought the laws which have posed problems for agriculture and farmers,” he said, adding that the youth too is facing unemployment.

“They (BJP) have their government at the Centre and also in Uttar Pradesh. Where are they taking the economy? They are showing dreams of investments, if it is coming where it is. No investment is seen in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Referring to the rise in petrol and diesel prices, he said its profits are going into the government”s coffers but not being shared with farmers.

To a question, the SP chief said his party will perform well in the upcoming panchayat elections and will have a good show in Assembly polls next year.
