  • No hope left for people from BJP-led UP government: Akhilesh Yadav

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday claimed there is no hope left for the people in Uttar Pradesh as the BJP government is engaged in ‘bandar baant’, a Hindi word which suggests that the ruling party only looks after its own people.

Yadav also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state of mishandling the Covid crisis, alleging costly treatment of coronavirus, negligence in treatment of black fungus, shortage of life-saving medicines and stalled development works.

“There is no hope left for the people from the BJP government which is engaged in ‘bandar baant’,” he said in a statement issued here in Hindi.

‘Bandar baant’ refers to a story in which a monkey grabs an entire ‘roti’ on the pretext of dividing it between two cats.

Due to not taking effective steps timely, failure in proper assessment of situations and wrong management, figures show that Uttar Pradesh is lagging behind in COVID-19 vaccination, he said.

Yadav also accused the state government of fudging the Covid figures.

Calling the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ during 2017 polls a bundle of lies, he said, “The truth is that there was record unemployment in the BJP rule and inflation is high.

Prices of petrol-diesel-cooking gas are touching the sky, neither is there work in MNREGA, nor there is trace of skill mapping. Trade, business, small-medium industries are getting ruined.”

  • Against BJP’s vaccine, but will take government of India’s vaccine: Akhilesh Yadav on policy change

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to provide free vaccines to states for all above 18 years starting June 21, and asked people to get themselves vaccinated.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said that he would get himself vaccinated.

“Seeing the public outrage, the government instead of politicising the corona vaccine announced that it would give the vaccines doses. We were against the BJP’s vaccine but welcome the vaccine of ‘Government of India’. I will also get vaccinated. I appeal to those who could not get vaccinated for the lack of vaccines to do so,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.

In an address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the central government will provide free vaccines to states for all above 18 years starting June 21.

When the coronavirus vaccine was launched in January, Yadav had sought to know from the government how the drive will be conducted and when the poor will get the shot free of cost.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister had said he has faith in doctors of the country but not the government.

Yadav had also triggered a controversy, saying he will not get himself injected with a “BJP vaccine” against coronavirus.

“We have full faith in our doctors but not in the government. It is good that coronavirus vaccine has come out but only believe what the doctors say, not Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” he had said.

SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav had got himself vaccinated at a private hospital here on Monday.

The BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit had described it as a “good message”, and said SP workers and its president should take inspiration from him.

  • Environment suffered most since BJP came to power in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

    By PTI
LUCKNOW: The environment has suffered the most ever since the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday and accused the government of making tree plantation drive a “joke”.

On World Environment Day, he alleged that the BJP government has been making false claims about environmental protection and the “trees have been growing only in government flies”.

It was under the Samajwadi government that concrete steps were taken in this direction.

It had set a Guinness Book world record in tree plantation while ponds were dug and green parks developed in the Bundelkhand region, he said.

“In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government runs tree plantation campaigns every year. But to date, it has not been able to give details about where and how many trees have been planted in which year during his reign, and how many saplings planted are left. In fact, the environment has suffered the most ever since BJP came to power,” he said.

The BJP government has squandered the budget under the cover of tree plantation drive, the Samajwadi Party chief alleged in a statement.

“Its latest claim has been planting 30 crore saplings this year. If we go by the claims of the government, there should have been a forest growing in every house. The BJP, which plants the seeds of hatred and lies, are playing with the environment and have made tree plantation a joke,” he said.

The forest wealth is facing danger. The imbalance in nature has increased, as a result of which heat is increasing.

There is a shortage of different resources and a change is also seen in the season cycle, Yadav said.

“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath can make any claim he likes but the Niti Ayog has exposed the reality of where the state stands.”

Yadav also extended his wishes to all the countrymen on World Environment Day and stressed that environmental protection is indispensable for the earth.

    By PTI

LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Wednesday said the Uttar Pradesh government, which claims that the World Health Organization (WHO) has lauded its COVID-19 management, has not hesitated from using unethical ways to hide its “failures”.

In a statement issued here, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP government, which has “fudged” the figure of COVID casualties, is not even pained by the sight of bodies flowing in the Ganga and patients dying at the doorstep of hospitals.

“It would have been better had the chief minister informed us as regards when the poor people will be vaccinated and when action will be taken against those indulging in hoarding and black-marketing of oxygen cylinders, injections and medicines,” he said.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said if the state government cannot provide free COVID vaccines to all, then after coming to power in 2022, the SP will inoculate everyone in the state for free.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the WHO has praised the efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh in tackling the pandemic.

“You may or may not have seen today’s news. The World Health Organization has praised the work of the Uttar Pradesh government. It is not a small thing,” Singh, who represents Lucknow in the Lok Sabha, had said here.

In a tweet on Monday, the WHO said, “In #India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh, the state gov. has initiated house-to-house active case-finding of #COVID19 in rural areas to contain transmission by testing people with symptoms for rapid isolation, disease management & contact tracing.”

SP MLC Ashutosh Sinha, who hails from Varanasi, said, “The BJP government has miserably failed in managing the COVID situation in the state. Black-marketing of Remdesivir injections is rampant. The demand for ‘kafan’ (a piece of cloth used to wrap a dead body) is currently higher than that for clothes in Varanasi. People are even paying bribes at the crematoria to expedite the last rites of their near and dear ones.”

Congress leader from Mathura Pradeep Mathur told PTI that when the elected public representatives are finding it difficult to get beds in hospitals, the plight of the common man is easily imaginable.

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of remaining in “isolation” and said that the frightening pictures coming from hospitals are exposing the tall claims of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The SP leader also alleged that alive people are being declared dead in hospitals.

“There is no proper supply of oxygen and no beds in hospitals. Hundreds of people are dying due to mismanagement and BJP government is responsible both administratively and morally,” Yadav said, adding that such irresponsible government is of no use to people.

‘Team-9’ comprises a nine-member set of ministers and bureaucrats who are tasked with managing the COVID-19 crisis.

It will take policy decisions and ensure their implementation, giving reports directly to the chief minister, a government spokesperson had said.

    By PTI

In a statement issued here, he also slammed the chief minister for campaigning in elections in West Bengal and other states. “The BJP government has lost its control over administration. Ignoring warnings of scientists and doctors, the CM became star campaigner and left for election campaigning in other states and his Team 11 (core team of 11 officers) went in the rest mode. Due to this, neither the spread of coronavirus nor the number of deaths due to it could be controlled,” Yadav said in a statement issued here.

He said the situation is miserable in Lucknow too where one could not get ambulance and admission in hospitals have become impossible, leaving people to die.

“Is this the manner in which the BJP made the state happy? There is no place in ‘shmashan’ (crematoriums) and no beds in hospitals. The government has become deaf and dumb. There are the arrangements which the prime minister and the chief minister used to advertise about. It will be better if the BJP leaves the government and stops playing with the lives of people,” Yadav said.

Meanwhile, the state BJP on Monday said it will start a “helpdesk” to provide medical and other help to people.
