In a bold step toward revolutionizing India’s healthcare landscape, the government has rolled out SAHI – Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India – during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Officials stressed that AI’s real strength lies not just in technology, but in fostering trust, ethics, and inclusivity across all strata of society.

Healthcare faces longstanding hurdles: uneven diagnostics, biased algorithms that disadvantage certain groups, and barriers to care for underserved populations. SAHI tackles these by outlining clear policies, advocating for diverse data sources, and equipping doctors with AI literacy programs. The result? A more equitable system where technology serves everyone equally.

The ‘AI for All’ mantra underscores the summit’s theme, pushing for AI ecosystems that transcend borders of region, class, or language. Experts debated the imperatives of varied datasets to eliminate biases, trustworthy AI deployments focused on societal benefits, and mechanisms to build enduring public faith.

Complementing SAHI is the newly launched BODH platform, a game-changer for validating health AI tools. Crafted by IIT Kanpur and the National Health Authority, BODH provides a systematic benchmarking process. It ensures AI solutions undergo stringent checks for safety and performance in practical settings before reaching clinicians.

This dual launch signals India’s commitment to responsible AI adoption. By aligning innovation with medical needs, regulations, fairness, and trust, SAHI charts a course for sustainable progress. Healthcare providers, policymakers, and developers now have the guidance to harness AI’s power ethically, potentially transforming lives nationwide.

At the India AI Impact Summit-2026 in New Delhi, top executives painted an optimistic picture of AI’s role in healthcare, dismissing fears of job losses for doctors. Instead, they argued, AI will empower physicians by handling routine tasks, allowing deeper focus on diagnosis and empathy-driven care.

Roy Jacobs, CEO of Philips, was unequivocal: AI is already easing burdens in healthcare’s high-pressure environments. Looking ahead, he predicted, ‘A decade from now, AI’s legacy will be the billions of improved lives, not flashy interfaces.’

Alexander Wang from Meta elaborated on everyday AI integration, spotlighting India’s pivotal contributions. His vision? A ‘personal superintelligence’ that intimately understands users’ aspirations and aids their pursuits. But he cautioned, ‘Without responsible development—prioritizing trust and oversight—society won’t embrace it.’

Martin Schroeter of Kindred AI shifted focus to execution. ‘AI innovation thrives in labs, but scaling demands industrialized infrastructure, skilled teams, and reliable operations,’ he stated. Ultimately, AI’s future hinges on dependable embedding in critical societal frameworks.

Olivier Blum of Schneider Electric linked AI’s expansion to energy challenges. ‘Escalating compute power intensifies energy needs, pressuring global systems,’ he observed, while advocating AI-driven efficiencies to navigate this transition.

The summit’s dialogues underscore AI’s promise to elevate healthcare accessibility and quality, heralding a future where technology and humanity converge for global well-being.

At the India AI Impact Summit-2026 in New Delhi, leaders from tech giants converged to demystify AI’s role in healthcare and beyond. The consensus? AI augments human expertise, not supplants it, saving doctors time for what matters most: diagnosis and empathy.

Roy Jacobs of Philips painted an optimistic picture. AI is already lightening loads in strained healthcare frameworks. Looking ahead, its legacy will be measured in improved lives across billions, not mere tech tweaks.

Alexander Wang from Meta shared an ambitious roadmap. India’s contributions are key to AI’s everyday integration. Imagine a personal AI that knows you better than anyone—your aspirations, hobbies, current tasks—delivering tailored support globally. But he cautioned: trust is paramount. Models must evolve alongside robust governance, or adoption falters.

Martin Schroeeter of Kindred AI urged readiness for scale. True innovation demands industrialized AI, backed by infrastructure, data, operations, and skilled teams. Its trajectory will be defined by reliable embedding in critical societal systems, far from isolated research silos.

Olivier Blum of Schneider Electric highlighted energy implications. Surging AI compute power intensifies global energy demands, yet it holds promise for smarter, efficient transitions.

The summit’s dialogues signal a paradigm shift: AI as a force multiplier for human potential, promising healthier lives and sustainable progress.

In a major step toward ethical AI integration in healthcare, the National Health Authority (NHA) organized the Federated Intelligence Hackathon at IIT Kanpur. Partnering with ICMR-NIRDHDS and IIT Kanpur, this event from January 19-24, 2026, served as a lead-up to the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The goal? Develop federated AI systems that protect privacy while scaling effectively for national health needs.

NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal was unequivocal: AI tools must be rigorously vetted on broad, varied datasets prior to rollout in health services. ‘This builds trust, ensures precise outcomes, and promotes equity,’ he stated. India is now prioritizing reliable, standardized AI models over mere pilots.

The federated approach shines here—innovators trained models across distributed data sources without ever pooling sensitive health information. This preserves privacy and accelerates tech adoption.
