  • Central government ordered Wikipedia to remove links showing wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir

    The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered Wikipedia to remove the link showing the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the news agency ANI, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an order to Wikipedia citing Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

    The government has been directed to remove the link from Wikipedia which shows the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir (Wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir). Actually, this case was exposed by a Twitter user, on which the Ministry acted

    However, this is not the first time that the Indian government has shown strictness on showing the wrong map of India on any platform. Earlier Twitter showed Leh as part of the People’s Republic of China (China), after which the Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey objecting to it. After this, Twitter had apologized in writing in front of the parliamentary panel.

  • The Chief Information Commissioner Mr. Raut presented the annual report of the Commission to the Governor

    Chief Information Commissioner Shri Raut informed that in the Annual Report -2019 of Chhattisgarh State Information Commission, the information received from all the districts of the state under the Right to Information Act 2005 and informed about their disposal. At the time of hearing in the appeal cases by the Commission, the Public Information Officer and the appellant are called with the records on the due date by giving notice to the Public Information Officer and both parties are given ample opportunity to present their arguments. He informed that the Chhattisgarh State Information Commission has heard the second appeal and complaints in a timely manner.

  • Who is Neera Tanden, the Indian-American expected to Joe Biden’s next budget chief

     According to reports, US President-elect Joe Biden is expected to name top members of his economic team this week including Indian-American Neera Tanden as director of the Office of Management and Budget.

    Neera Tanden is currently serving as the chief executive of the Center for American Progress. The 50-year old would be the first woman of color to head the Office of Management and Budget.

    Tanden has already served as a senior adviser for health reform with the US Department of Health and Human Services where she actively worked on structuring the Affordable Care Act, known popularly as Obamacare.

    Biden is expected to name Cecilia Rouse, a Princeton labor economist, to run the Council of Economic Advisers, and Tanden, the chief executive of the Center for American Progress, to lead the Office of Management and Budget, New York Times reported.

    The announcement, which will also include Biden’s decision to name Janet L Yellen, the former Federal Reserve chair, as Treasury secretary would potentially culminate in several women in top economic roles, including the first Black woman to lead the Council of Economic Advisers and the first Indian-American to lead the Office of Management and Budget, New York Times further reported.

    Biden’s top economic aides during his presidential campaign, Jared Bernstein and Heather Boushey will also be named to the Council of Economic Advisers.
