In a move to curb fatalities from head injuries among two-wheeler riders, Raipur’s police department has mandated that all motorcycle showrooms must now provide a helmet with every new vehicle sold. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Lal Umed Singh issued the directive, emphasizing that failure to comply will result in strict action. The police have reported over 20,495 traffic citations in the last seven months for riding without a helmet, and despite awareness campaigns and helmet distribution efforts, many continue to disregard safety regulations. Tragically, 190 people have died in road accidents within the same period. As per Motor Vehicles Act of 1989, Section 138, it is obligatory for two-wheeler sellers to provide a helmet with each vehicle. However, many showroom operators have been neglecting this. The SSP’s order clarifies that violating these rules will lead to actions under Motor Vehicle Rules 33-44, which may include suspension or revocation of business licenses. This measure aims to highlight the importance of helmets and reduce the loss of life in accidents.

The number of Indian citizens who have died in Canada has been steadily increasing. Government data released to parliament reveals that over 1,000 Indian nationals have died in Canada over the past five years. While many of these deaths were attributed to natural causes such as old age or illness, the figures also include fatalities resulting from accidents, violence, suicide, and murder.

A father in Kanpur’s Barra 8 area initiated a public protest following a distressing incident where his daughter fell into a water-filled pothole while on her way to school. The event, which occurred near Ram Gopal Chowk, brought attention to the dilapidated state of roads in the area, particularly exacerbated by the rainy season. The father, deeply affected by his daughter’s ordeal, adopted a unique form of protest. He arrived at the site with a mat and pillow and lay down in the muddy water, aiming to highlight the civic negligence. Passersby were surprised, and traffic slowed as people gathered to witness the unusual demonstration. The father emphasized that the protest was born out of necessity, driven by the daily suffering of children and the lack of road repairs despite numerous complaints. Protesters were also heard chanting the slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”

A road under construction in Bihar has become the talk of the town. The project, costing ₹100 crore, is part of a road being built from Patna to Gaya. The…

A road under construction in Bihar has become the talk of the town. The project, costing ₹100 crore, is part of a road being built from Patna to Gaya. The most striking feature of the road, near the DM office in Jehanabad, is the trees standing right in the middle of it. This unusual construction has left everyone who passes by astonished. The presence of trees in the middle of the road poses a significant safety risk, potentially leading to accidents and even fatalities.

Photos and videos of the road have gone viral on social media. Local residents have expressed concern, noting that while vehicles can navigate the road during the day, the absence of streetlights at night makes the trees a major hazard. Several two-wheelers have already collided with these trees.

The Road Construction Department, unable to obtain permission from the Forest Department to cut down the trees, proceeded with the road construction, navigating around the trees. This has resulted in the trees becoming obstacles in the middle of the road. The department stated that they had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Forest Department for tree removal but have yet to receive approval.

The Maharashtra state transport department is contemplating increasing the speed limit for heavy vehicles on the Bhor Ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Currently set at 40 km/h, the limit…

The Maharashtra state transport department is contemplating increasing the speed limit for heavy vehicles on the Bhor Ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Currently set at 40 km/h, the limit may be raised to 50 km/h, a proposal driven by concerns from truck and bus drivers who deem the existing limit impractical and potentially unsafe. The ghat section, known for its challenging terrain, spans 10 km from Lonavala to Khalapur. Officials are actively discussing the matter, and a decision is expected soon. While cars maintain a 60 km/h limit, the disparity in speed limits between different vehicle types and the rest of the expressway is a point of contention. The transport industry highlights the risk of brake overheating and failures due to frequent braking at the current low speed. The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) has also led to a rise in e-challans for heavy vehicles, with many citing the current speed restrictions as problematic. Joint inspections involving various stakeholders have been conducted to assess the situation, and further discussions are planned. Drivers express concerns about inadequate warning signs in the ghat section, which they believe contribute to sudden braking and accidents. The Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway, inaugurated in 2002, has seen a high number of accidents, with Bhor Ghat being a major area of concern.
