Greater Noida is stepping up its fight against road mishaps with an aggressive safety campaign by the development authority. Tuesday’s inspections by top brass focused on vulnerable infrastructure like culverts over drains and roadside channels in key sectors, revealing gaps that demand urgent fixes.

ACEOs Sunil Kumar Singh and Prerna Singh zeroed in on Gamma-1 and P-3 sectors, spotting frail railings that pose serious risks. Their orders were clear: fortify railings, ramp up reflectors and cat’s eyes, and equip bridges to handle poor visibility conditions effectively.

Directed by CEO NG Ravi Kumar, the drive that started Monday has teams fanning out citywide to map danger zones. ‘Road safety is non-negotiable,’ the CEO declared, vowing zero tolerance for negligence.

Beyond bridges, the tour hit a Pai-1 construction site lacking proper safeguards—builders were told to add barricades and tighten security. Swarn Nagri’s damaged drain covers got immediate repair mandates to avert tragedies for walkers and motorists.

City Centre and Shagun Mart in P-1 also faced scrutiny, with on-the-spot improvement directives. The team included seniors Manoj Sachan, Ratik, and Sandhya Singh. GM (Projects) AK Singh oversees eight work circles that have flagged 48 risky spots, launching upgrades at 36 already.

Singh’s fieldwork added 12 more sites along DSC Road, Surajpur, and Central Vihar, where comprehensive works like slab laying, curbing, and safety installations are underway. He’s calling on residents to stay vigilant: spot a hazard, call the designated work circle number for quick response.

This proactive blitz is set to transform Greater Noida’s roadways into secure corridors, blending official vigilance with public input.

The Indian Railways has directed all its zones across the country to exercise greater caution during work related to basic infrastructure. The Railway Board has stated that signal and telecommunication cables are often damaged during construction activities, leading to signal failures. This situation poses a serious threat to the safety and smooth operation of trains. The Board has warned that negligence could lead to disastrous consequences.

The Railway Board’s letter indicates that several major projects are currently underway nationwide, including track doubling, yard remodeling, construction of boundary walls, limited height subways (LHS), installation of automatic block signaling (ABS), and security systems like Kavach. During these projects, signal cables are sometimes cut due to excavation or other activities, resulting in signal failures and disruption of train operations.

Efforts are underway to equip the Dhanbad-Gaya Grand Chord section with an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to monitor elephants approaching railway tracks. Tenders have been initiated by the railways after completing the necessary procedures. This system will prevent train accidents and protect elephants from being hit by trains. The system, which will utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify elephants, will alert the control room and the loco pilot as soon as an elephant is detected near the tracks. The system is planned for implementation on the Chichaki-Hazaribag Road and Keswari-Chaube sections, covering approximately 40 kilometers of up and down lines, from near Gomoh to Koderma. The project is estimated to cost ₹4.83 crore and is expected to be completed within six months of awarding the work.
