  • ABVP elected state president Arun Gupta, state minister Shubham Jaiswal

    Arun Gupta and State Minister Shubham Jaiswal will take over as the newly elected state president of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on February 11. For the session 2020-21, the state’s leading student organization All India Students Council has been re-elected unopposed as the state president and state minister of the Chhattisgarh province unit. It was announced from the Vidyarthi Parishad province office of the capital Raipur. State Election Officer Ashutosh said in a release from the province office, the tenure of both the officials will be one year. The two officials will take charge at the 53rd state convention of ABVP to be held in Ambikapur on February 11.

  • ABVP protests in Maharashtra’s Latur for reopening of colleges

    LATUR: The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday held a protest in Latur demanding that colleges be reopened for classroom teaching as other sectors had started operations post the shutdown for the coronavirus outbreak.

    A functionary of the students’ outfit said that the protest was held in front of Dayanand College and Swami Ramanand Teerth University Sub-Centre in Peth here. Police said that a few protesters were detained and then released some time later.

    Incidentally, in a meeting chaired by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on January 29, vice chancellors of all 20 public universities in Maharashtra had demanded the resumption of classroom teaching in colleges.

  • FIR against Assam teacher for ‘defaming’ PM Modi via social media

    GUWAHATI: An FIR was lodged against an Assam college teacher who allegedly defamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other politicians by posting their objectionable photos on the social media.

    One Snehangshu Chakraborty, who is a leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), lodged the FIR with the Silchar Sadar Police Station against Tamojit Saha. The accused teaches Bengali at a junior college in the southern Assam city.

    In the FIR, Chakraborty wrote that Saha had posted an image on Facebook and captioned it “Impact of farmers’ movement in Haryana”. The post had alleged objectionable photos of PM Modi, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his deputy Dushyant Chautala.

    A case was registered under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.

    The police said they were probing the case. The accused was yet to be arrested.

    The complainant as well as the members of ABVP demanded action against the teacher. They said he had demeaned Modi and the two Haryana politicians with his offensive post.

  • ABVP activists take out cycle rally from Naya Raipur on National Youth Day

    Hundreds of Vidyarthi Parishad workers celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda through a cycle rally on National Youth Day by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Naya Raipur. State Co-Minister Aman Yadav of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad said that ABVP is celebrating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as its national program Youth Day since its inception. Like Swami Vivekananda, the youth should move towards their goals with positive thinking.

    Naya Raipur Municipal Minister Rahul Chandrakar told that through Vidyarthi Parishad Naya Raipur, hundreds of activists reached different places through bicycle rally and conveyed the message of Swami Vivekananda.

    The rally program was mainly attended by several activists including Naya Raipur co-ministers Dev Sahu, Hrithik Anand, Pintu, Mannu Yadav, Nitin Thakur, Deepak Sahu, Rupesh Yadav, Bhola, Rakesh, Kunal.

  • Motorcycles gutted, bombs hurled during TMCP-ABVP clash in Bengal

    KOLKATA: Several motorcycles were set on fire and crude bombs hurled during a clash between students affiliated to the TMCP and the ABVP in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district on Monday, police said.

    The clash erupted over activists of RSS-affiliate Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) putting up flags and posters at Bajkul College, authorities of the educational institution said.

    Several activists of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the students’ wing of the ruling party in the state, blocked the road in front of the college alleging that several of its members were injured in the clash.

    The situation has now been brought under control, a police officer said.
