In a significant development for aspiring lawyers, the Indian National Congress has confirmed that final interviews for its flagship INC Legal Fellowship will be completed by April 12. Party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi shared this update, highlighting the program’s massive success.

What began as an innovative outreach has snowballed into a national sensation, attracting more than 2,000 applications. Singhvi noted the department’s excitement and vowed to scale up the initiative substantially in future iterations.

A stringent selection process has whittled down applicants to a elite shortlist, now facing the final hurdle: interviews conducted by a powerhouse panel. This includes Prashanto Chandra Sen, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court; Apar Gupta, advocate and founder of the Internet Freedom Foundation; and Alia Waziri, a prominent advocate and writer.

Tailored for law graduates holding three- or five-year LLB degrees from recognized institutions, the fellowship spans three months with a ₹50,000 monthly stipend. Launching its inaugural edition on March 3, it positions young professionals to collaborate with parliamentarians on pressing legal, constitutional, and policy matters.

Participants will engage in legislative research on bills, amendments, and committee reports; prepare concise notes for parliamentary questions and debates; and track pivotal events in governance and rights. Singhvi stressed the need for a strong cadre of legally trained experts ready to bolster constitutional rule.

The fellowship, slated for June-August, serves as a vital platform connecting academic legal training with real-world legislative work. With interviews imminent, Congress is poised to onboard a new generation of legal minds, reinforcing its commitment to democratic institutions and human rights advocacy.

The Congress high command has rolled out its Rajya Sabha nominees, signaling confidence in its state-level arithmetic ahead of the March 16 polls. This calculated lineup features heavyweights poised to extend the party’s influence in the House of Elders.

Teaming up in Telangana are Abhishek Manu Singhvi, renowned for his sharp legal mind and loyalty, and Vem Narendra Reddy, a key advisor to CM Revanth Reddy. Their candidacy underscores the party’s firm grip on the state’s two seats.

In Chhattisgarh, Phulo Devi Netam gets another shot, renewing her mandate as a tribal voice. Originally from Kondagaon, the 54-year-old leader’s first term since 2020 has been marked by diligent committee work and community outreach. Party insiders credit her rapport for this repeat endorsement.

Diversity defines the rest: Karamvir Singh Buddha from Haryana represents Dalit empowerment efforts; Anurag Sharma from Himachal brings youthful vigor; and M. Christopher Tilak from Tamil Nadu fortifies southern flanks.

With nominations due by end of day March 5, scrutiny on the 6th, and withdrawals up to March 9, the stage is set for a predictable outcome where Congress holds sway. Counting begins same day post-polling, promising quick results in strongholds.

In a strategic masterstroke, the Congress party has solidified its Rajya Sabha presence in Telangana with the nomination filings of legal luminary Abhishek Manu Singhvi and trusted strategist Vem Narender…

In a strategic masterstroke, the Congress party has solidified its Rajya Sabha presence in Telangana with the nomination filings of legal luminary Abhishek Manu Singhvi and trusted strategist Vem Narender Reddy. The duo presented their papers on Thursday, the last date for submissions ahead of the March 16 elections, at the state assembly in the presence of Returning Officer Upendra Reddy.

Leading the proceedings was Minister D. Sridhar Babu, joined by a galaxy of Congress stalwarts such as TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and various elected representatives. The high-profile event buzzed with anticipation, signaling the party’s robust organizational machinery at work.

For Singhvi, this is a return ticket to the Upper House, endorsed by the central leadership for his razor-sharp legal interventions and parliamentary prowess that bolster Congress’s national narrative. Narender Reddy, stepping into the spotlight for the first time, enjoys proximity to CM Revanth Reddy, explaining his surprise selection despite competition from seasoned party veterans.

Vacancies arise from the impending end of terms for Singhvi himself and BRS leader K.R. Suresh Reddy. Lacking a contender from BRS, the path is clear for an uncontested win. Congress’s assembly strength—66 seats plus CPI’s one and AIMIM’s seven—far exceeds the threshold, especially with 10 BRS defectors swelling their ranks against BJP’s modest eight. This outcome not only secures two crucial seats but also cements Congress’s upper hand in Telangana’s political landscape.
