In a stunning revelation, Aadhaar has emerged as the globe’s premier biometric ID platform, with 1.34 billion active users and a staggering 17 billion-plus authentications processed. Union Minister Jitin Prasada shared these figures in the Lok Sabha, painting a picture of technological triumph.

Managed by UIDAI, Aadhaar facilitates seamless identity validation essential for government schemes, financial services, and more. Verification happens via OTP, biometrics like fingerprints and iris, or demographics, making it versatile for banks, telecoms, and welfare programs.

The minister spotlighted the AI-driven facial authentication, a game-changer using machine learning for accuracy. To access these tools, organizations register as AUAs or KUAs under regulatory guidelines.

Addressing privacy concerns head-on, Prasada detailed log retention policies: two years active access for users in disputes, followed by five years in archives. Encryption safeguards data everywhere, with laws curbing misuse.

A multi-layered audit system—self-assessments, yearly security checks, and GRCP reviews—ensures unwavering reliability. Protocols demand explicit consent, limited-purpose use, certified hardware, and no biometric hoarding by third parties.

India-centric data handling reinforces sovereignty and security. As Aadhaar powers direct benefit transfers and digital transactions, it stands as a beacon of innovation, propelling India’s leap into a cashless, paperless future.

The United Nations has recognized India’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as a global benchmark for empowering women through banking access. UN Women’s Policy Director Sandra Hendricks praised the program for delivering financial services to more than 290 million Indian women, terming it a ‘transformative pathway’ for females worldwide.

At a press briefing before the upcoming 70th Commission on the Status of Women, Hendricks highlighted India’s feat in providing digital identities to its vast female population—one-fifth of the global total. ‘This is an exemplary move,’ she said, pointing to eased regulations for opening digital bank accounts.

Under PMJDY, 56 percent of accounts belong to women, facilitated by the Aadhaar biometric ID system. This financial gateway empowers women to pursue entrepreneurship and economic independence, showcasing legislation’s power to enact change.

Hendricks linked this to broader UN goals, referencing Guterres’ report that calls for justice access amid global disparities where women hold just 64 percent of men’s legal protections.

The report urges targeted actions for non-discriminatory justice rooted in human rights, tackling exclusion and inequalities. India’s success story underscores that inclusive policies can accelerate gender parity, inspiring nations everywhere to follow suit.

French President Emmanuel Macron electrified the India AI Impact Summit 2026 audience with a vivid anecdote about Mumbai’s street economy, illustrating India’s monumental digital revolution. Starting his speech with a warm ‘Namaste’ and gratitude to his hosts, he returned after his 2024 state visit, thrilled to be back for this pivotal AI gathering.

‘Ten years ago, a Mumbai cart vendor had no bank account—no address, no papers, no access. Today, he takes instant, free payments from anyone nationwide via his phone,’ Macron narrated. This isn’t just technology at work; it’s a civilizational shift, he emphasized.

He marveled at India’s unique feats: Aadhaar’s digital IDs for 1.4 billion citizens, UPI’s staggering 20 billion monthly transactions, and over 500 million digital health records issued. These scales are unmatched globally.

Macron recalled the Paris AI Action Summit co-hosted by France and India, where they set principles for AI to drive positive change in health, energy, transport, farming, and public services. Amid AI’s rise as a strategic battleground with Big Tech’s dominance, he lauded India’s focus on sovereign innovation—through efficient small language models and massive GPU support for startups via 38,000 units at low costs.

Concluding powerfully, Macron revisited the vendor tale: The world once scoffed at India’s digital dreams for its masses; India triumphed. Today, doubters say AI favors giants alone. But India, France, Europe, and allies can pioneer a responsible, innovative model, harnessing AI for humanity’s good. This partnership will define tomorrow’s AI landscape.

The Election Commission (EC) has implemented a significant change concerning online voter ID services. To add new names, make corrections, or remove names from voter lists, verification via a mobile…

The Election Commission (EC) has implemented a significant change concerning online voter ID services. To add new names, make corrections, or remove names from voter lists, verification via a mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card is now mandatory. The EC has launched an e-sign feature on its ECINet portal and app to facilitate this. This move follows an incident in Karnataka’s Aland assembly constituency, where thousands of voter deletions were alleged. The e-sign feature uses the unique identification number system of India to digitally sign documents. This has been introduced as a verification process for deleting or correcting voter IDs. Previously, submitting forms was possible by linking a mobile number with the voter ID number (EPIC), sometimes leading to the use of incorrect numbers. Now, applicants must enter their Aadhaar number, receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar, and submit the form only after giving consent. After the e-sign process, applicants will be redirected to the ECINet portal to submit the form. This rule will apply to Form 6 (new registration), Form 7 (deletion/objection), and Form 8 (correction).

The change was prompted by the alleged fraudulent deletion of thousands of voters in Karnataka’s Aland assembly constituency. Investigations revealed that out of 6,018 deletion requests, only 24 were legitimate, while the rest were incorrect. The mobile numbers used for OTPs did not belong to the actual voters in many instances. This event compelled the EC to strengthen security and verification processes, leading to the implemented changes.

The EC emphasizes that no voter’s name can be directly deleted online. Physical verification by the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is essential. Voters will be given a full opportunity to present their case.

ECINet, launched earlier this year, consolidates approximately 40 older apps and portals, including ERONet. Through this platform, voters can easily apply online, and officials can take action on those applications. The e-sign feature has been added to this platform to ensure transparency and security.

IRCTC is set to implement a new policy that requires Aadhaar-based authentication for booking reserved general tickets, effective October 1st. This new rule will be in effect for the initial 15 minutes of the reservation window. The Indian Railways states that this measure aims to ensure genuine users can access the benefits of the reservation system while preventing unauthorized individuals and middlemen from exploiting the system. However, the existing 10-minute limit for authorized railway ticketing agents to book reserved tickets on the opening day remains unchanged. A key point of confusion is whether individuals will be able to book tickets during the first 15 minutes if their Aadhaar information hasn’t been updated.

Aadhaar is the primary means for robust digital governance. It not only enables access to various government schemes for the public but also ensures the correct identification of eligible beneficiaries. Development Commissioner Dr. S. Siddharth stated this while addressing a one-day workshop on Aadhaar Verification and Robust Digital Good Governance organized by the Information Technology Department of the Bihar government in Patna.

Dr. Siddharth highlighted that Aadhaar verification led to the identification and cancellation of numerous fraudulent ration cards in Bihar. The issue of Aadhaar cards is linked to various government departments. He noted that an individual possesses multiple cards and numbers associated with them, such as Aadhaar, voter ID, PAN, and bank accounts, leading to challenges in accurately identifying the correct individual.

A comprehensive mobile application, tentatively named e-Aadhaar, is under development to streamline the process of updating personal details associated with Aadhaar cards. This app, being created by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will allow users to modify crucial information such as their name, date of birth, mobile number, and address through a single, user-friendly platform. The anticipated launch of the e-Aadhaar app is expected by the end of 2025. This app aims to provide a convenient, hassle-free solution for managing Aadhaar information directly from mobile devices, eliminating the need for frequent visits to enrollment centers for most updates. The application will incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology to enhance security and ensure a seamless user experience. Beginning in November, Aadhaar users will only need to visit enrollment centers for biometric verifications, such as fingerprint and iris scans. The e-Aadhaar app promises to simplify the update process, minimize paperwork, reduce potential fraud, and significantly improve the overall speed and convenience of managing Aadhaar details.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the biometric data of approximately 170 million children across the country requires updating. Letters have been dispatched to the secretaries of all states, requesting cooperation in facilitating these biometric updates. Camps will be organized in schools to streamline the process. The Ministry of Education has also uploaded relevant information on its Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE Plus) platform, providing real-time data to district officials and school principals regarding the number of students in their respective schools whose biometrics are pending update. UIDAI CEO, Bhuvanesh Kumar, has also written to all Chief Secretaries of states and union territories, seeking their assistance in completing the biometric updates for these children. It is crucial to note that children’s Aadhaar cards are initially linked to their parents’ details, necessitating subsequent biometric updates at ages five and fifteen. The UIDAI emphasizes the importance of adhering to these update timelines.

The Supreme Court has ruled that individuals excluded from the draft electoral roll in Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process can use their Aadhaar cards to object to their exclusion. The court’s decision aims to ensure that eligible voters are not omitted from the electoral process. Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, presiding over the bench, stated that individuals can submit their objections using either one of the eleven documents listed in Form 6 by the Election Commission of India (ECI) or their Aadhaar card, thereby permitting Aadhaar as proof of identity for inclusion in the voters’ list. The apex court was addressing petitions challenging the ECI’s June 24 directive to conduct a SIR of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Additionally, the court clarified that objections can be submitted online without physical documents and instructed booth-level officers to provide acknowledgement receipts for physically submitted forms.

Farmers across the nation are awaiting the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. While the exact date of disbursement is yet to be announced, it is anticipated that the next ₹2,000 installment will be released in July 2025. This scheme provides financial assistance to eligible farmers, with installments disbursed every four months. The previous installment, the 19th, was transferred in February 2025. To ensure seamless receipt of the upcoming installment, farmers must take several crucial steps. These include completing e-KYC, linking their Aadhaar with their bank accounts, verifying the accuracy of bank details, updating land records, ensuring their mobile number is active and correct, and confirming their name is on the beneficiary list. Any errors in address or land-related information could render a farmer ineligible. Farmers can update their address details on the PM-Kisan website or seek assistance from a Common Service Center (CSC). The website address is https://pmkisan.gov.in. E-KYC is a mandatory requirement for receiving payments and can be completed through OTP, biometric verification, or face authentication. Farmers can check their installment status on the PM-Kisan website by entering their Aadhaar or registration number. Eligibility criteria include Indian citizenship, ownership of cultivable land, and being a small or marginal farmer. Those receiving a pension of ₹10,000 or more, paying income tax, or possessing institutional land are not eligible. New farmers can apply through the website as well.
