Windhoek’s High Performance Oval witnessed a cricketing spectacle on Thursday as West Indies U19 scripted a thrilling 55-run upset against South Africa in match 21 of the 2026 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. With Super-6 berths already locked in for both sides, this clash turned into a battle of pride – and West Indies emerged dominant.

West Indies, batting first after a toss win, started shakily at 33-1 after losing Tanez Francis. Joshua Da Silva and Zachary Carter rebuilt with a gritty 82-run stand, but JJ Basson’s hat-trick of wickets in the 23rd over – Da Silva (20), Jewel Andrew (0), and Shamir Apple (0) – left them reeling at 115-4.

Carter’s heroic 114 (104 balls, 8×4, 8×6) anchored the innings, partnering with Jonathan Van Lange (29) for 78 runs. The total reached 234 in 47.5 overs, despite Basson’s 5-23 and Roels’ brace.

South Africa’s chase imploded spectacularly. Belle’s mesmerizing spell dismantled them, finishing with 6-40. Roels top-scored with 46 (40 balls, 4×4, 2×6), Fhalamohlaka made 26, Bosman 19, and van Schalkwyk 20, but they were all out for 179 in 37.4 overs. Pollard, Morton, and Logie grabbed a wicket apiece.

This victory not only avenges past encounters but positions West Indies as dark horses in the tournament, with Carter’s batting fireworks and Belle’s bowling masterclass lighting up the U19 World Cup narrative.
