Earlier known as the Bamboo Village, Belgavi is considered as one of the oldest, strong, prominent and well cultured historical place nestling high in the Western Ghats. The winning candidate for the Belagavi constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was Mangala Suresh Angadi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a major national party.
