By constructing 36 lakh 40,371 houses so far, Madhya Pradesh has come second in the country. Construction of 3.79 lakh houses is going on.

The housing will be considered complete only when the construction of the toilet is completed. There is a provision for 90/95 man days of unskilled labor in MNREGA. Electricity connection under Saubhagya Yojana and LPG connection from Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are provided free of cost. Water is being supplied through pipes under Jal Jeevan Mission. Housing security has been provided to the poor needy by bringing together important schemes of the Central Government.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) proved to be transformative for the Sahariya tribe living in Mundra Khurd Gram Panchayat of Guna district of the state. Sahariya families who used to live in dilapidated houses now have permanent houses. He painted his house blue. Their houses can be recognized from a distance. Krishna Bai of Gram Panchayat Mundra Khurd says that her dignity has increased due to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Ramkunwar Bai of Bhilkhedi Gram Panchayat of Shajapur district faced many obstacles throughout her life due to poverty and disability. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin provided him support. Ramkunwar Bai tells that when her own permanent house was ready through the scheme, her husband Balaram jumped with joy. Never been so happy before. His mud house was filled with smoke from the stove. Now the house is also permanent and LPG connection is also available. There is a toilet in the house and water is also available through pipe connection. Many women are overwhelmed to see their dream of housing fulfilled. The house is being allotted jointly in the name of husband and wife. This is a unique initiative for women empowerment.

The Gram Sabha certifies the validity of the list of beneficiaries. This helps only the needy people. Training programs for masons have been started for good quality housing. A survey is going on under Pradhan Mantri Janman Mission to provide benefits especially to the vulnerable tribal groups. Till now, houses of 64594 beneficiaries have been sanctioned and the first installment has been deposited in the accounts of 45520 beneficiaries.

Geotagged and time stood photography of various stages of construction of the house is linked with the release of the next installments of financial assistance funds. Photographs are used to review the quality of construction and completion of houses. From identification of beneficiaries to providing assistance for construction of houses, all tasks are done on MIS Awas Soft. Payment is made through Direct Benefit Transfer into the accounts of the beneficiaries.

Monitoring is done at many levels for successful implementation of the scheme. The operation of the scheme is regularly reviewed through social audit with community participation, Disha Committee meetings chaired by MPs and national level monitoring.
Provision to start construction of 2 crore houses in 5 years
In order to realize the dream of the poor houseless to have their own housing, the Central Government’s Interim Budget 2024-25 envisages construction of 2 crore additional houses in the next five years under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) to meet the new needs due to increase in the number of families.
