Soybean farmers of Dhar got success by arranging the crop rotation and planting varieties according to the season.
HighLights
The area under soybean in Dhar district of MP is 3,15,000 hectares. The number of farmers fighting climate change is 20-25 thousand. Varieties that ripen in 70 to 90 and 90 to 110 days were planted.
Premvijay Patil, Dhar. These days, farmers in all the districts of Malwa-Nimar are worried because the approaching monsoon has spoiled their ready soybean crop. But, contrary to all this, some farmers of Dhar district have a smile on their faces because they have not suffered losses due to the weather.
It is not that the monsoon did not rain water on its way to Dhar. In fact, farmers here have saved themselves from this loss by adopting methods to fight climate change and making strategies according to the weather. In a way, some farmers of Dhar have shown the way to the farmers across the state as to how losses can be avoided or reduced with wisdom.
Early and late variety soybean planted
This time, farmers in the district sowed early variety as well as late variety of soybean. Also, different varieties of soybean were sown. Its advantage was that farmers did not have to focus on the entire crop at the same time.
For example, when the medicine was to be sprayed in the early variety, the late variety was not ready in the fields. When the farmers became free after spraying the medicine on the early variety, then the time came to spray the medicine on the late variety. The same thing proved beneficial in case of weather also.
The early variety was saved from getting completely spoiled by the monsoon rains because its crop had already been harvested and reached the farmers’ homes. In such a situation, farmers got enough time to handle the remaining late varieties.
Farmers should not rely on one variety
We explain to the farmers that they should not rely on a single variety, because the climate is changing rapidly. In such a situation, if they plant three different varieties then it is even better. Thousands of farmers have done this type of experiment. This experiment has also been successful. Dr. GS Gathia, Senior Agronomist, Dhar
Experiments are being done to avoid loss
Media in-charge of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Amol Patidar, farmer Vijay Patel, village Kagdipura, Kamal Patidar, village Pinjraya and Irfan Patel, village Magajpura said that there has been less loss in soybean in the district, the survey of which is being done. Farmers have learned to fight climate change.
He told that the farmers had planted soybean of early variety JS 9560 and 2218 category. Later maturing soybean variety RBS 2011-35 was also planted. Farmers suffered losses due to the virus in JS 1135, while farmers’ crops in Early Variety have been in satisfactory condition.
About 20-25 thousand farmers have done this experiment in the district. It can be understood in this way that if a farmer has 10 bighas of land, he sows it according to the onset of monsoon rainfall in his area. He planted 60 percent early and 40 percent late varieties.
