The Chhattisgarh Police said two maoists were killed on Saturday in an encounter with security forces in Sukma’s Burkapal area. One of two maoists, killed in the ongoing operation, was a woman, PTI quoted a senior official as saying.
Separate teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Special Task Force (STF) and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), had been carrying out combing operations in Sukma for the last couple of days. The gunbattle broke out this morning when a joint team of the DRG and the STF was cordoning off a forest located deep inside Burkapal.
This comes a day after eight maoists, including six women, were killed in a joint operation led by the Greyhounds, Telangana’s elite anti-Naxal unit, and aided by the Chhattisgarh police and the CRPF in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
