On the last day of the three-day National Tribal Dance Festival and Rajyotsava organized at the grounds of Science College, capital Raipur, the folk artists of Haryana enthralled the audience with the presentation of Ghoomar dance. Ghoomar dance is a unique traditional folk dance of Haryana. The leader of the dancer team Sunil Kaushik told that this dance is popular in the western parts of the state. The circular movements of the dancers in this dance give a distinct identity to this dance. Usually girls from the border area of the state perform Ghoomar. Dancers, who take a circular mode and move about clapping and singing, perform this dance. The girls sing as they dance in a swirling movement and the music moves as the pairs of girls move and spin faster and faster. The accompanying songs are filled with satire, humor and contemporary events, while the dancers move around in pairs. This dance is performed on the occasion of festivals like Holi, Gangaur Puja and Teej. It is a folk dance of Bhil tribe. This dance is performed at the time of harvest. It is a group dance. This dance is performed on special occasions. This dance is performed after the harvest, after the crop is sold at good prices.
