Deputy Director Veterinary Services Dr. D.D. Jharia, while giving timely advice to cattle farmers for the rescue and care of animals in the scorching heat, said that at this time the hot winds are blowing due to the scorching heat of the sun. The temperature is around 40 degree centigrade. In such a situation, there is a possibility of sunstroke and sickness. Anorexia in animals taking food, high fever, hyphae, runny nose, falling eye drops and red eyes, thin diarrhea and staggering fall due to excessive lack of water in the body are the main symptoms of sunstroke.
He said that it is beneficial to take preventive measures before the animals become ill. Cattlemen should be very careful about the health of animals. Keep animals in the cell from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Do not keep the box open and cover it with sack etc. Keep the atmosphere cool by sprinkling water in the sack to prevent hot winds. Always provide cold and clean water to animals for adequate nutritional food and drinking. Do not feed the animal with a solid food, and feed them a soft, liquid diet. Do not feed the remaining stale food items to the animals for marriage and other events. Do regular cleaning of the room.
Dr. Jharia has instructed to take special care of newborn calves. He has said that hybrids and buffalo animals must bathe at least once a day, depending on the availability of water. If the animal appears abnormal, immediate treatment should be done after informing the officer-employee of the nearest Veterinary Institute.
