To ensure that economically weaker families across the country do not face shortage of food grains, 5 kg rice per member is being given free of cost under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. This scheme is proving to be a boon for lakhs of families of Mahasamund district. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana was started in Mahasamund district in the year 2020. From then till today, every member of 3 lakh 110 families of the district is being given 5 kg of free rice from the government fair price shop. Gram Panchayat Lafinkhurd is one of the 553 gram panchayats of the district. Here, ration is distributed to 819 families from the government fair price shop. Of these, 756 families are Priority and Antyodaya card holders, each member of whose family is being given 5 kg rice free of cost under the Garib Kalyan Yojana. By getting free rice, the worries of these families about getting ration ended and they are living a happy life.

In the context of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, the salesman says that in our place, 5 kg rice is distributed free of cost per member every month. At the same time, a top official of the Food Department says that under Self-reliant India, this scheme is being run with the aim of removing the shortage of food grains among the people and to ensure that no person remains hungry without food grains.

It is noteworthy that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana was initially started till the Covid period, but the Prime Minister has now extended it for 5 years.
