Raipur. In the state, now parrots and other birds will not be kept in cages. If you have kept a parrot at home, then you may have to go behind bars. The Chhattisgarh Forest Department has now decided to take strict action on this. On the instructions of the Chief Forest Conservator and Forest Force Chief of the state, the order sent to all DFOs states that the illegal sale, purchase or maintenance of parrots or other birds that have legal protection should be banned. This instruction has been given after complaints of rampant sale of birds in the state.
In the instructions sent to DFOs across the state, it has been said that in the schedule of amendment made in the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, buying, selling and rearing of parrots and other birds has been completely banned. Violation of the provisions of the Act has been categorized as a crime. There is also a provision of punishment against those who violate it.
In the letter of instructions sent to the DFO, the forest department has also expressed its displeasure over the fact that the instructions issued earlier regarding making the information of the provisions of the Act known to the general public have not been implemented. The forest department has instructed the DFO to issue the name of an officer at the departmental level along with his mobile number to register complaints regarding illegal sale, purchase and keeping of parrots and other birds.
