NMC imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on Sims Medical College, warned to reduce MBBS seats if deficiencies are not removed

Virendra Gahwai, Bilaspur. The National Medical Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on SIMS Medical College, Bilaspur. This fine has been imposed due to lack of faculty and necessary resources in SIMS. Along with this, instructions have been given to remove the deficiencies within 2 months. If this is not done, NMC has also warned of reducing the MBBS seats.

Actually, the National Medical Commission (NMC) keeps an online watch on all medical colleges. It also gives guidelines to the colleges from time to time to remove the deficiencies. A few days ago, the NMC had held a virtual meeting. In which the deans and professors of all the government medical colleges of the state including SIMS were involved. When the faculty was counted in the medical college, many deficiencies were found. There are neither doctors, nor professors and assistant professors in sufficient numbers here, due to which MBBS studies are also getting affected. Along with the employees, SIMS Medical College has a shortage of 20 percent faculty, 43 percent junior and senior residents.

Apart from this, there was also a shortage of necessary testing machines. The NMC also considered the lack of reagents in the medical college lab as a shortage. Some doctors are on leave, who were considered absent. The orthopedics department in SIMS does not even have a C-arm machine. In such a situation, a large number of patients are being referred here. Due to lack of resources and faculty, the NMC has imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the medical college.
