The public welfare schemes run by the Chhattisgarh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel are proving to be a boon for the farmers. Small and marginal farmers of the state are also earning better income from agriculture. With the initiative of the state government and their hard work, farmers are creating new success stories. The government-administration is making continuous efforts to make the farmers financially empowered and to bring positive changes in their lives. Farmers are being linked to modern agriculture by taking initiative by the Agriculture Department to leave their traditional agriculture and take new crops, by encouraging them to produce cash crops and commercial crops. Ram Dhruv is cultivating maize by making the best use of the forest rights lease given by the Government of Chhattisgarh with the help and consultation of the Agriculture Department. Although before this they used to sow paddy crop. This time, he had sown certified maize seed (KMH-3426) free of cost from the Agriculture Department in his two and a half acre field. Due to this, he has produced about 18 quintals of maize. Out of which he got a good profit by selling more than 8 quintals in the open market. Salik Ram tells that seeing the good quality of maize, not only the traders of the surrounding but also the traders of other districts are coming and buying maize from him. This made him a good profit. His family is becoming financially empowered with the income from this new crop instead of the paddy crop. Salik Ram says that he is cultivating maize instead of paddy under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana in consultation with the Agriculture Department. This is earning good income. He will now sell about 10 quintals of maize left out of the total production under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana and take additional benefit of this scheme. Salik Ram is also teaching his son Atmaram the tricks of farming along with him. Now both are doing farming together. His son Atmaram told that this time instead of paddy, there has been good yield from maize crop, due to which the whole family is more encouraged. In the coming years, we will cultivate new crops with more enthusiasm and hard work. Atmaram told that seeing him, the farmers of the surrounding are also being encouraged to take other crops instead of paddy, so that they too can earn financially. Along with maize cultivation, Salik Ram is also doing fish farming and mushroom production. Due to which they are getting additional income, due to which their economic condition is improving as well as happiness is coming in the house.
