Raipur 21 November 2024/ Kanker district of Chhattisgarh has received the Best Inland District Award at the national level in the field of fisheries. Today on 21st November, on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Minister of State Professor S.P. Singh Baghel and Mr. George Kurien, Director of Fisheries Department of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Narayan Singh Nag, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Kanker, Mr. S.S. Kanwar was honored with a trophy and citation at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Chhattisgarh state has earlier received the award of the country's best inland state in the field of fisheries.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed happiness over Kanker receiving the country's Best Inland District Award. He congratulated and congratulated all the fish farmers and Fisheries Department officials of the state including Kanker for this proud achievement. The Chief Minister has said that despite being a landlocked state, Chhattisgarh is at the leading position in the country in the field of fisheries. Chhattisgarh is a self-reliant state in the country in fish seed production. This is the result of the hard work of the fish farmers of the state.
It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh has 2.032 lakh hectares of water area for fish farming, out of which fish farming is being done in some form or the other in 96 percent. Every year 546 crore fish seeds and 7.30 lakh tonnes of fish are being produced in the state. Fish seeds are also exported from here to neighboring states. The state ranks 6th in the country in fish seed production and 8th in the country in fish production. Fishermen of Chhattisgarh state are being provided loan facility from banks through Kisan Credit Card. As per eligibility, short term loans are also being given to fish farmers at one percent to three percent interest.
