Help in nation building by adopting the ideal qualities of journalism: Governor Ms. Uike

Governor and Chancellor Ms. Anusuiya Uikey today attended the fifth convocation of Kushabhau Thackeray University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raipur and presented various graduates, post graduate students and Ph.D. conferred degrees to the holders. On this occasion, Shri Ravi Shankar Ji Maharaj, Senior Journalist and former General Secretary, Broadcast Editors Association Shri N.K. Singh, MLA and former minister Mr. Brijmohan Agrawal, Mayor of Raipur Municipal Corporation Mr. Ejaz Dhebar were present. In the convocation ceremony, 345 graduates, 584 post graduates and two research scholars of the year 2019, 2020 and 2021 were awarded Ph.D. The students who came first in the degree and merit list were awarded gold medals. Governor Ms. Uike conveyed her best wishes to the students receiving degrees and said that the role of media in democracy has always been important. He exhorted the students getting degrees to adopt those ideal qualities of journalism, so that the society and the nation can be rebuilt. In the era of modern communication, the dual challenge before the students of media is to make a career with high standards of journalism and also to have a broader vision on the main issues of the society and the nation. He said that ideologically, the crisis of credibility and authenticity of the media has increased. Many a times we see that the issues related to the disadvantaged-weaker sections, women and children do not come as prominently. It is a challenge for the media to connect such sections of the society with the mainstream of the nation. He said that today we are celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence on the completion of 75 years of independence. Newspapers and magazines played an important role in the independence movement. In those days journalism was done like a mission. In the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, we should not forget the sacrifice of countless journalists who actively participated in the freedom movement. Ms. Uike said that positive news should also be brought in front of the readers prominently. Positive news is inspiring, otherwise many times when you open the newspaper in the morning, it seems that everything is going wrong in the world. Positive thoughts also bring positivity in life and smile on face too. Public concern of journalism is always the pivot of society. He can never be separated from her. The path of journalism may be difficult, but journalism related to the concerns of the society can never fail to achieve the noble goal of public service. He said that the new media with many possibilities is moving ahead in awakening the new consciousness of the society and the country. Today, media is playing an influential role in every sphere of our life, moving beyond the world of information, knowledge, entertainment. He said that many times he has helped the needy by taking cognizance of the news published in the media. The Governor expressed the hope that the students and this media gurukul would illuminate the name of Chhattisgarh across the country. He also extended warm wishes to all the staff including the Vice Chancellor of the University family for the successful conduct of the convocation. The keynote speaker and senior journalist of the convocation, Mr. N. Of. Addressing the students, Singh said that all of you are now entering a new phase of your life. This new life will not be easy, its path is full of thorns, but if you all work with your true devotion, then you will definitely be successful. He said that the life of a true journalist is the life of a saint. Like a saint, a journalist has to do hard penance and work for the welfare of the society. He said that there are thousands of challenges before modern journalism. They need to work impartially and with multidimensional thinking then only you can become a successful journalist. He said that it is the responsibility of the teachers of the university to make the youth morally committed and impart modern knowledge and make them rich in personality. Vice Chancellor Prof. Baldev Bhai Sharma while congratulating the degree students said that the nation and society are Indian journalism. are the focal points. Awareness, fearlessness, truth-searching and human service are the four dimensions of journalism. While imbibing this in their lives, all the young students should do journalism for the welfare of the people. A souvenir of the convocation was released on the occasion. The university anthem and state anthem were also presented. At the end of the program, the guests were honored with mementoes. A large number of students and parents including senior journalists Shri Ramesh Nayyar, Shri Sudhir Saxena, members of the Executive Council and Vidya Parishad and faculty members of the University were present in the program.
