Over half the population in Chhattisgarh will not be able to prove their citizenship if the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is implemented, as they don’t possess land nor land records, said Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
He further said that half the people in Chhattisgarh do not have any document to prove their citizenship as their ancestors were illiterate and migrated to different villages or states.
The CM gave this statement while talking to reporters on Friday evening. He further said that he will oppose the NRC exercise just like Mahatma Gandhi had opposed the identification scheme of Britishers in Africa in 1906.
