Governor Anusuiya Uike attended the 71st Plenary Session of NEC, said – Manipur will return to the path of development and peace with the cooperation of central leaders.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uike participated in the 71st Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya today. The meeting was presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Union DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State DoNER, BL Verma, Governors and Chief Ministers of North Eastern States and senior officials were present in the meeting. During the dialogue session, Anusuiya Uike extended her warm greetings to Union Home Minister and Chairman of North-East Council, Amit Shah and expressed her gratitude to the Central Government for its continuous support and guidance in the socio-economic development of the North.

The Governor said that many people are currently living in relief camps and they need to be sent to their homes. He stressed the need to provide immediate relief amount/interim relief amount to those people whose properties have been damaged. Uike suggested to provide self-employment and housing to the victims on priority. He also said that to increase trade and business, highways have to be secured. He said that tea gardens can be developed in the state as an alternative to poppy cultivation, as this will provide alternative business to the poppy cultivators.

For the North-Eastern states, the Governor suggested that the amount of development work for the implementation of government schemes creates a situation of paying salaries to the employees, to end this he said that to avoid this, a lump sum amount should be given to the state as a grant. Should be given, so that it can be used for salary payment as per requirement. Manipur is called the powerhouse of sports in the country. Governor Anusuiya urged that training, encouragement and sports facilities should be increased for the players, as the state has innate sports talent.

The Governor said that Manipur is a naturally and environmentally rich state and hence tourism can be promoted there. He said that the art, culture and handicrafts of Manipur are of high quality, which can be used to increase employment, trade and business. He expressed hope that with the cooperation of central leaders, the state will be back on the path of development and peace in the near future.
