Fortified rice will be distributed in aspirational districts

The first meeting of the Steering Committee of Rice Fortification Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan here today. In the meeting, the arrangements for distribution of fortified rice in various districts under the scheme, promotion of the scheme, storage of rice as per requirement, status of allocation and successful implementation of the scheme in coordination with health, education, women and child development and food departments were discussed. Fortified rice will be distributed through public distribution system for mid-day meals in all Anganwadi centers, schools, including 10 aspirational districts of the state from April 2022. The Chief Secretary has asked the officers of Health, Women and Child Development and Education Department to implement the scheme in coordination. The Fortified Rice Distribution Scheme in Chhattisgarh is to be implemented in a phased manner in all the districts. The Chief Secretary has given instructions to make all necessary preparations for this. The Chief Secretary has been asked to inform the people about the scheme and the quality of fortified rice in the districts through local language pamphlets and other mediums. Distribution of fortified rice is being done as a pilot project in Kondagaon district. The Chief Secretary directed the officers of the Health Department to conduct a survey regarding the reduction in the rate of malnutrition after the use of rice in Kondagaon district. He has also directed to conduct regular health check-up of the children of all the schools, ashrams, hostels in the state.
