The Medical Education Department of the state government has suspended Dr. Manju Ekka, a gynecologist at Rajmata Mrs. Devendrakumari Singhdev Medical College, Ambikapur, with immediate effect. He has been suspended in connection with the death of patient Mrs. Subuktara, husband Mr. Israfil, who was referred from Pratappur in the hospital affiliated to the Medical College, on November 29, in a case related to high risk pregnancy. He did not promptly discharge his official duties and responsibilities despite receiving information from the hospital while on call duty in the hospital. In the preliminary inquiry report received on December 1 regarding the incident, it was found that Dr. Manju Ekka had Gross negligence in discharge of duties. His act is a clear violation of Rule-3 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965. Suspending Dr. Manju Ekka with immediate effect under Rule 9 (a) of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966 for not discharging official duties and duties promptly, his headquarters office Civil Surgeon-cum-Chief Hospital Superintendent, District Hospital, District- Surajpur has been determined.
