Constantly monitor paddy imports in border districts without permission: Minister Shri Bhagat

Food Minister Shri Amarjeet Bhagat reviewed the arrangements for purchasing paddy at a meeting of officials held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan here today. Shri Bhagat told the officials that before starting the paddy procurement, all necessary arrangements should be made for the construction of gunny bags, platforms, for the convenience of the farmers. Proper arrangement of fork-weights and its verification should also be done. Shri Bhagat spoke to the collectors of the border districts of the state regarding the purchase of paddy over telephone and has directed to make strict arrangements to stop illegal paddy coming from other states. Shri Bhagat said that there should be no inconvenience to farmers for purchasing paddy. Shri Bhagat said that a team of officials of the departments related to paddy procurement should be formed at the state level including the Food Department. Which will visit the procurement centers across the state to inspect and monitor paddy procurement. In particular, going to the border districts will inspect the arrangements made to stop the flow of illegal paddy.
Minister Shri Bhagat said that the State Government has requested the Government of India to provide 3 lakh 50 thousand bales of gunny bags for purchase of paddy from farmers in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21 in Chhattisgarh. The Government of India has given information of supplying only one lakh 43 thousand bales of gunny bags to Chhattisgarh by 50 percent, through the Jute Commissioner and till now the state has received only 77 thousand bales of gunny bags. Has happened. Due to drastic cuts in the supply of gunny bags by the Government of India, the State Government has issued a work order for the purchase of new gunny bags of 70 thousand HDPE, PP. Apart from this, one lakh gunny bags of PDS system and two lakh gunny bags from millers will be supplied for paddy purchase.
Shri Bhagat said that about 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is expected to be purchased in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21. It is expected that 4 lakh 75 thousand bales of gunny bags are required for the procurement of paddy. He informed that one lakh 45 thousand gunny bags will be available from Jute Commissioner Kolkata for paddy purchase. The system of one lakh gunny bags from the state government’s PDS system will be made for paddy purchase. Apart from this, there is a target to get two lakh bales of gunny bags from the millers. The remaining gunny bags for paddy purchase will be filled by the state government by purchasing 70 thousand plastic bags. In the meeting, Dr. Kamalpreet Singh, Secretary, Food Department, Mr. R. Prasanna, Special Secretary Food Mr. Manoj Kumar Soni, Mr. Niranjan Das, MD, Naan, Mr. Ankit Anand, MD, Markfed, Mrs. Shikharajput Tiwari, Director of the Weapon-Weighing Department and other officers were present.
