Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel today unveiled the statue of educationist and social worker Late Shri Basant Sharma in DLS College campus in Bilaspur. Late Shri Sharma had established DLS College in the private sector about 25 years ago. About 2 thousand students from low income group are studying in the college. Shri Sharma passed away untimely a year ago on this day at the age of about 55 years. Chief Minister Shri Baghel paid homage to Late Shri Basant Sharma by unveiling a life-size statue of him in the college premises. Shri Baghel became very emotional remembering Late Shri Basant Sharma in the tribute meeting. His eyes moistened remembering the moments spent with him. Mr. Baghel said with a tight throat – We have lost a true friend. On this occasion, Minister in-charge of Bilaspur district and Revenue Minister Mr. Jai Singh Agarwal, Parliamentary Secretary Mrs. Rashmi Singh, MLA Mr. Shailesh Pandey, Mayor Bilaspur Mr. Ramsharan Yadav, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Tourism Board Mr. Atal Srivastava, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Farmers Welfare Board Mr. Surendra Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Shri Pradeep Sharma, Chairman of Municipal Corporation Raipur Shri Pramod Dubey along with Shri Vijay Kesharwani and Vijay Pandey were also present. Poet Mr. Mir Ali Mir conducted the program. Chief Minister Mr. Baghel said in the program that late Mr. Basant Sharma was a simple, easy and progressive personality. He was a man who stuck to his ideas. He said that it is a very emotional moment. The Corona pandemic has caused a lot of damage to all of us. Late Shri Sharma was very attached to the people of Bilaspur. Revenue Minister Shri Jaisingh Agrawal said that Late Shri Basant Sharma has done remarkable work in the field of society and education. His contribution in the development of Bilaspur region cannot be forgotten. In the program, Mr. Sanjay Sharma introduced the life of Late Mr. Basant Sharma. He told that Late Shri Basant Sharma was born on 4th May 1965 in Katghora. D.L.S. in the year 1997 by Late Shri Basant Sharma Ji in the name of his father Late Shri Dashrath Lal Sharma Ji. Established the college. He was always active in the field of social, political and education. Kovid-19 snatched from us on 25 April 2021, the active late Shri Sharma, rich in such versatility. Started with only 4 rooms and 200 students, today the institution spread over 5 acres has taken the form of a fully equipped post graduate college, where 2000 students are studying and about 100 teachers and staff are working. He was a councilor from 1994 to 1999, from 2004 to 2009. He was also the President of 21 institutions. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel honored the sculptor Mr. Parvez Alam, who made his statue in the program. Apart from this, two girl students of the college were given gold medals.
